4 Congress could have done more to prevent Partition
Thanks to all for some good links on this. While not going on waht the BJP is doing on this and taking a random , illogical stand on BJP , why not read the above highlighted thing. And especially for the pro-Congress junta.
I am a small person and I take a very simple example and of my own. I am working on a project and that will change a lot in my firm , we all know in our hearts and mind that its going to be do more good than bad ( at all!) but still its been delayed for more than 3 months now and more and more testing is being called for , more proofs to really prove that the new infrast ructure and processes will be more correct. It is not that my manager does not trust me , its just that if something goes wrong , he will face the FIRE.
Going by the same analogy , its all good to put blame on Muslim League / Jinnah for the partition but I assume Congress was the leader of maases at that time and how on earth they can be so short-sighted to allow this to happen. Was not the decision of partition took in a bit of haste? Was everyone in Congress happy with that? If it was for good then why Gandhi (With all due regar ds to him!)opposed it at the beginning and then if so strong was his resolve (which he always showed during the independence movement ) why did he at all buckled under any pressure to accept the partition.
Very simple common sense shows that for achieveing bigger things you have to give sacrifices; nothing is for free , free arbitrage does not e xist , then how can congress go the path of buckling down und er pressure from Muslim League / Congress / riots / bloodshed ?
Yes , The BJP "ala-kamaan" (as it is said in the political circles) should take responsibility of the elections and any other things related to them and yes , going by whatever I have read of the Jaswant Singh case , they made a pretty wrong decision of expelling a big leader as Jaswant ; but at the same time , we must also appreciate that Congress (going by the smae logic) must also take the responsibility of the partition and I think thats prety evident in the poll on the best prime minist er where Nehru is virtually getting nothing! Simply sensitising things and playing a blame game should not be the case.
PS: I am not as learned as many of you , my comments are more out of logic than historical facts , please excuse me for that.
PS to Kapil : Just to be clear , i guess you understand that I just quoted something from your post , the post itself is not at all direct ed at you or anyone else , its in general.
Thanks,
Anil
