Jinnah's ancestry

We have ancestry of Jinha from Wikipedia as under:

:"Jinnah was the eldest of seven children born to Mithibai and Jinnahbhai Poonja. His father, Jinnahbhai (1857–1901), was a prosperous Gujarati merchant who had moved to Sindh from Kathiawar, Gujarat before Jinnah's birth. His grandfather was Poonja Gokuldas Meghji, a Hindu Bhatia Rajput from Paneli village in Gondal state in Kathiawar. Jinnah's ancestors were Hindu Rajput that converted to Islam. Jinnah's family belonged to the Ismaili Khoja branch of Shi'a Islam, though Jinnah may have converted to Twelver Shi'a Islam. This is disputed, and the Karachi High Court in 1984 ruled that "the Quaid (Jinnah) was definitely not a Shia" but a Sunni Muslim."

Jaswant Singh writes that Khojas of Pakistan have converted to Muslim from Lohana caste of Hindus.

Thakur Deshraj writes the Khojas and Lohanas both were Jats.

Jinah versus Nehru.

I am not sure abt jinha weather he was the reason for partion but it was nehru becoz of whom india got devided. Angrez Jinha ko PM banana chahete thee becoz he was attached to a high society English Lady with her influence Jinha was the first choice to be nominated as 1st PM of undevided India, but it was Motilal & party who wanted nehru to be the PM then the Angrez said ok Jinha will be the PM and we will give him seprate State Pakistan. It is pity for Jaswant Singh that he has to go just for writting a book, that is not fair , it was his opinion outside party but he never praised Jinah on the party platform.I think BJP should chose the path on which it want to run.Basically Jinha was a Hindu from Gujrat and he converted to Islam that was his choice ,may be for political gains. One must read the book before making any conclusion and that is request for Mr. RAJ NATH SINGH also. Jai Ram ji ki.:rock

Sid, thanks for the link. Interesting read. He does make some valid points.

Another article by someone who actually read the book.

"Jaswant Singh has not been expelled for his book. He could not have been, because it does not say anything untrue. Very quickly, this is what his book says:

1 In 1940, Jinnah’s Muslim League proposed that Muslims should have self-government

2 Between 1940 and 1946, Jinnah gained electoral support and was open for negotiations. However, he was snubbed by Congress leaders whose actions were either illogical (Gandhi) or tactless (Nehru). They wanted to rule India alone; Jinnah wanted a federation

3 On March 8, 1947, as killings began in Punjab, on both sides, Vallabhbhai Patel and Nehru accepted Partition in a resolution they passed in Gandhi’s and Azad’s absence

4 Congress could have done more to prevent Partition

5 Jinnah was modern and secular and would have been appalled by how Pakistan turned out None of this is wrong, or new. It is taught in history books. Does Jaswant say Partition was a good thing? No. Does he blame Patel for it? No. If there is one man Jaswant holds most responsible for Partition, it is in fact Jinnah and his “continued rigidity, his fixed stand on an ever increasing charter of demands for the Muslims, an ever larger share of power for them in Independent India (page 504).”

Patel is mentioned in the book in six places (pages 13, 289, 418, 459, 461 and 488). Not in one place has Jaswant said an unkind word about him. So when Rajnath is angry with Jaswant’s views on Patel, he must be hallucinating. But he is not. And that is because Jaswant’s punishment is not for his book at all. It is about the elections that the BJP lost under Rajnath’s presidency, Advani’s candidacy and Jaitley’s management."

Here's part 2 of that series..

Enjoy

Shourie is the next one to go. Another interview with Shekhar Gupta. Very interesting to watch. Apparently, he is going to write a series of articles in Indian Express, which would include excerpts from a book by HM Seshadri, a prominent RSS leader during partition time. Apparently this guy gave much more flak to Nehru/Patel on partition in his book than Jaswant Singh. The way BJP is trying to defend Patel as if he was their leader is laughable.

Greatbong is indeed on half a limb here. He seems to have made up his mind on Jaswant being motivated because of his Rajput royalty. The rest of the post is just guided from there. The bit about the "Indian Muslims" in the book being against BJP's ideology is hilarious. Even BJP couldn't come up with that in whatever garbage they came up with to dump him.

Two Jinnahs for BJP. One in visitor book at his grave, another in book by J. Singh. Advani wrote Jinnah as Great and Secular. Jaswant Singh have mentioned him as arrogant, Brit, Failure and much more. Which one is more fatal?

Parliamentary Board of BJP in Shimla announced Jaswant's exclusion from party. How did they manage to read 600 plus page book with in few hours of its coming in market and then interpreting it so right. A Noble Prize case.

Sardar Patel and Nehru's role have been criticised by their contemporaries like of Dr Lohia and Maulana Azad in their book about freedom and used [abused] words like cheap, ugly who had backstabbed nation and Ghandhi. Ironicaly BJP praises Patel more than Congres do. Seems BJP needs both Jinnah and Patel for its existence but at the cost of comedy this time.

Oh no, reading the book, even if to get the facts right, would have been against BJP's ideology. The BJP leadership had already formed an opinion and didn't want to be confused with the facts.

Kapil ji, then it makes them a classic case of 'Brain-transplantation' with a primary school kid.

Something else that exposes ala-kamaan's hypocrisy in the matter. This is what Advani had said on Varun Gandhi episode, just 4 months back. So they will justify a rank idiot on grounds of "difference of opinion", yet expel/ban a founding member for a scholarly work.

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/bjp-will-not-disown-varun-only-correct-him/446427/

"Even if it turns out to be true, a person making a statement which I don't approve of, does it empower a party to disown the person?..... (It needs to) correct him that this is not done," he was quoted as saying in a TV channel.

To a question that will the party disown Varun if his statements turns out to be true, Advani maintained that one cannot run a political party like this.

"If turns out to be true. I will tell him never to do it (again)," he said.

"I have (known of) so many people who have made statements of which I don't approve of. I am not on that account (for) throwing them out of the party," he said.

I will have to read the book to give out my opinion. Till then, I would still trust GreatBong over Jaswant.

partition was good

Why is partition considered itna kharab?
phir se pathan raj karte, muslim would have added to their numbers aur bhi dange phasad hote.
partition was great.

In mid-1930s, when it became clear to JInnah that he could never call the shots in an undivided India, he bought fully into the Pakistan dream. After that, he did everything to encourage communal polarisation, erasing his previous secular credentials. When a thinking man cynically abandons all cherished beliefs and embraces what he abhorred earlier, how can this act be judged positively?

Jinnah's communal politics stretched all over his whole life from the 1930s till his death in 1948. He sparked off full-scale communal carnage with his call for a Direct Action Day in August 1946. After that, there was regular bloodshed in eastern India and Kolkata, which only Gandhi's fast and Partition finally ended. Looking at the things in same perspective, both Jinnah and Narendra Modi were guilty of the same crime -- seeking power by stoking communal hatred. So why is Jinnah a secular hero and Modi a communal?

Jinnah wanted a Muslim veto everywhere and he demonstrated this in the interim government where League ministers opposed everything the Congress proposed, resulting in deadlock. Partition prevented this deadlock from becoming the future of undivided India. It allowed Pakistan to experiment with its Muslim identity and India with its Hindu-dominated, but secular, ideology. Today it is more or less clear which approach is right. It is also significant that Jinnah, who was so insistent on a Muslim veto in undivided India, did not give the same veto to minorities in Pakistan. His stand was thus totally hypocritical and self-serving.

An undivided India on Jinnah's terms would have reduced the whole of the region to Pakistan-like chaos. We would have had not just three countries, but more than 20 of them, allowing none to survive as secular nations. By agreeing to Partition, Nehru and Patel saved the rest of the nation from the mess Jinnah created. They did the right thing.

Like Satan, Jinnah believed that it was better to reign in hell than serve in heaven. He managed to convert Pakistan into hell and realised his foolishness before he died. Whatever their other faults, Nehru and Sardar Patel dragged India back from that precipice. They prevented the whole of undivided India from being a part of Jinnah's hell.

Many of our politicians wrongly believe that the keys to India's Muslim vote bank lie in Jinnah's Pakistan. Hence the need to call him secular. The good reason for re-evaluating Jinnah is that historical figures must not be judged by their darkest hours.

This contains a good account of the British Period, Jats, and Sir Chotu Ram's monumental contribution.

The book by Joon sahib is very readable, and a good start for anyone interested in our history
