Lok Sabha Elections
BJP to have alliance with INLD, state leaders told

Chandigarh, October 9
Brushing aside opposition by the Haryana unit, the BJP high command has made up its mind to contest the next Lok Sabha elections in the state in alliance with the Indian National Lok Dal of Om Prakash Chautala.

The high command’s decision was conveyed to office-bearers of the Haryana BJP at a meeting they had with party president Rajnath Singh and party general secretary in charge of the state Vijay Goel in Delhi yesterday. While the meeting with Goel was held at the party office at 11 Ashoka Road, that with Rajnath Singh was held at his residence.

Before the Haryana leaders met Rajnath Singh, Goel briefed them for about 20 minutes. He reportedly told them that the high command, too, had its ears and eyes and it had to take decisions in the overall interest of the party. Some decisions might be unpopular and bitter, but they had to be taken like a bitter medicine for the overall health of the party.

Sources say yesterday’s meetings were convened by the high command. The purpose was not to seek the views of the state leaders, whose opposition to an alliance with the INLD is no secret, but to intimate the party decision to them. There was no debate or argument after Goel had spoken to the Haryana leaders. The meeting with Rajnath Singh was a mere formality after that. A formal decision is likely to be announced by the BJP parliamentary board after its next meeting.

Though no details of the terms of the alliance with the INLD were disclosed to the Haryana leaders, it is expected that while the BJP would contest six of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the INLD would contest the remaining four. Thus, the INLD would concede the status of being the major partner to the BJP as far as the Lok Sabha elections are concerned. However, it is not known if the BJP would return the favour to the INLD in the assembly elections, which are due in 2010. The sources say in view of the strong opposition by its state unit, the BJP has decided to formalise its alliance with the INLD at present for the Lok Sabha elections alone. The arrangement for the assembly elections will be discussed only after the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP is likely to contest the Ambala, Karnal, Sonepat, Faridabad, Gurgaon and Rohtak Lok Sabha seats. The Kurukshetra, Bhiwani, Sirsa and Hisar seats will be left for the INLD.

The sources say for some time the BJP toyed with the idea of a “tripartite arrangement” with the INLD and the Haryana Janhit Congress of Kuldeep Bishnoi. But the formula was firmly shot down by Bishnoi, who refused to have any truck with the INLD.

INLD back in NDA fold

New Delhi, October 12
The process of political realignments at the national level today took an interesting turn with the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) returning to the NDA fold to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. After five years of political separation from the BJP, the INLD today also announced its poll alliance with the saffron party in Haryana.

The two are looking to repeat the magic of 1999 when together they routed the Congress from Haryana by winning five seats each. In the assembly elections held a year later, the alliance won 53 out of 90 seats, with the BJP deciding against joining the government since it had only six seats. For its part, the INLD extended unconditional support to the the Atal Behari Vajpayee government at the Centre between 1998 and 2004 - the year when relations between the two soured, ending ultimately in a political divorce.

Today as they again joined hands in full public view, BJP’s national president Rajnath Singh described the alliance as “natural” on grounds of the INLD’s uncompromising anti-Congress record, and the BJP’s national agenda of ending the Congress misrule. Today’s development is significant considering the Haryana BJP unit’s open dislike of the INLD.

And though Chautala today dismissed questions on how his remarriage with the BJP may help Bhajan Lal’s Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), the latter was confident of drawing political mileage out of the situation. “We are confident of political gains, following this electoral alliance,” Kuldeep Bishnoi of the HJC (BL) today told The Tribune, referring to the state BJP’s dislike of the INLD and the likely consequent bickering.

For the INLD, however, joining the NDA was the last and only option left, following the breakdown of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) as the third alternative. INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala admitted today, “We tried hard to keep our unity, but failed miserably. After what happened, we could not think of a better alternative than L.K. Advani to keep the Congress at bay.”

“We won’t just reorganise the NDA for the forthcoming poll, but will ensure it emerges stronger than what it was at its inception in 1998.” Chautala justified his return to the NDA, referring to anti-Congress waves spearheaded in 1977 by Jai Prakash Narayan and in 1989 by Devi Lal. He conveniently ignored Vajpayee’s anti-Congress reign in 1998.

That apart, the INLD’s return is being seen as the first in the series of comebacks the NDA is expecting from the UNPA, which lost face after the SP deserted its ranks to support the Congress. The UNPA has many former NDA partners, including the AGP, which the BJP is hopeful of wooing back. The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani today admitted to the importance of regional parties in strengthening national-level coalitions.

“The NDA is confident of support from the northeast this time. We are in touch with the AGP leaders, discussions are also on with P.A. Sangma,” Advani said, adding that the voter this time will have a “simple choice” considering UPA’s dismal record on terrorism and inflation.

Reminding everyone of Pokharan II, Advani said, “We conducted Pokharan II against the will of the USA, invited economic sanctions and yet managed to rein in prices of basic commodities.” He gave a clarion call to defeat the UPA to save India. The BJP and the INLD, however, gave away no details of seat-sharing in Haryana.

Dear Rabbu
thanks for your interest.
I am glad you know Mahinder singh Dudi Patarkar.
I visited his house in ladt april.
As you know his father a freedom fighter died in April

Nothing final on seat sharing .
but likely out come BJP 6 INLD 4
may be BJP 5 INLD 5 50% Fifty :Fifty

BJP won 5 and INLD won 5 seats each in 1998
under NDA pact.
But Kisan Singh sangwan MP from Sonepat left INLD and join BJP.
reason is well known to every one.
Kisan singh Sangwan was only person who won Sonipat seat
again in 2004 for BJP.
Now he is saeting MP with good chance of winnibg Sonipat seat for BJP.
So BJP not welling to give this seat to INLD.
Rohtak Seat- Seating MP Deepender Singh Hooda will be congress
candidate and BJP has claim for Capt. Abhimanyu because he was
in 2ND position in 2005 bye election and will give good fight to congress.
otherwords- CM Sahib ki nind haram kar dega.
INLD has no match for CM son in Rohtak so they are not claiming Rohtak seat.
this is latest. vase politics mae kuch bhi ho sakta hae.

Double Standards

Dear Dudee Ji,

Nice to see you on the forums after a long time.

When, Nehru family promotes their family members we complain about the dynasty rule.

Now out of 4 candidates that you have mentioned from INLD, two are Mr. Chautala's sons. One of CM Hooda's son. We already know Ch. Ajit Singh at Baghpat. Mulayam Singh has his son as MP, and so are so many others.

It has become norm and we all are accepting it. I am pretty sure, their might be much competent and qualified candidates who might be better than these dynastic candidates.

Good luck to all of them and best wishes to our country.

Dear Col. Tevathia Sahib
Thank you for your kind gesture. I was busy in a project.
I agree with you 100% Double standrads. Family rule. Dadagiri- Parivarvad
Chambal ky Daku rajniti mae active han.
GOD SAVE INDIA

Former dacoit Parihar joins Samajwadi Party
Shahira Naim
Tribune News Service

Lucknow, October 11
Seema Parihar, once one of India's most feared bandits, is now a member of the Samajwadi Party.

She formally joined the party during a function in Auraiya in the presence of the party’s national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The entry of another well-known name of the Chambal ravines into the SP comes exactly 11 years after bandit queen Phoolan Devi formally joined the SP at exactly the same venue in 1997.

She rose to represent the party in the Lok Sabha from Mirzapur. This is not Parihar's first foray into politics.

During the bypoll for the Bhadohi parliamentary election in 2007, she was the Indian Justice party candidate.

Later she joined Ramvilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti early this year and now it is the turn of the SP.

Parihar, who faces charges on 29 counts of murder and kidnapping, considers Phoolan Devi to be her role model.

Seema also acted in a film called “Wounded” in which she essayed her real life character in the ravines.

Directed by Krishna Mishra, the film received the Critics Award at Leicester Expo
Film Festival 2005, Great Britain, for realistic portrayal of the 13-year-old who
becomes a dacoit.
