Dear All
We all know that Bhagat Singh was born 100 years ago. The country is celebrating this year in memory his sacrifices for the country. After his dramatic surrender in the Central Legislative Assembly, Bhagat Singh announced that the bombs let off and the bullets fired were not for killing or injuring. They were to create loud enough noise for “the deaf to hear.”
The purpose was to penetrate the stuffed ears of the Firagi. Bhagat Singh and Bakuteshwar Dutt were arrested at Dillee. Rajguru and Sukhdev were making bombs when a faint streak of sulphur flowing down the drain was noticed by the ever vigilant British spies. They were arrested in Lahore. The decision of the court was to hang them till death.Bhagat Singh’s only reaction was to tell the jailer: ‘Now you will see, Sir, how the lovers of freedom lay down their lives.’The three revolutionaries died gallantly and with a poise begotten of unswerving commitment. Bhagat Singh left not only a brave memory in the minds of the nation but also a message written on the wall of barrack No.14. In the book of a police officer A B Awan called “Across The River and Over The Hills”. the text of Bhagat Singh’s message reads:
“I make no secret of the fact that it is but natural for me to desire to remain alive. But I can live only under certain conditions. I refuse to live in prison or on parole. My name has become the focal point of the party of revolution and its sacrifices have placed me on an elevated pedestal. This pedestal is so high that if I survive by being spared, I will not be able to live up to that standard. My weaknesses are not generally known and the public is unaware of them. If I manage to cheat the gallows, they will be exposed for all to see. It may be that the revolutionary fire in me will cool down. It may be even extinguished.
"But if I am hanged like a brave man, with a smile on my face, Indian mothers will encourage their children to emulate my example. Our hangings will substantially add to the numbers of martyrs in the cause of the freedom of the motherland, so much that it will be impossible any longer for the satanic powers of Imperialism to resist the Revolution.Of course there is one thing which even today leaves me uneasy. I have not been able to accomplish a thousandth part of what I aspired for the country and for humanity. Could I but live, I could fulfil some of these tasks and be happy. It is only out of this desire to be able to serve that I wanted to escape the gallows. Otherwise I consider myself the most fortunate man. Really I am very proud of myself now. I have got the better of all my desires. Now I am feverishly waiting for the last rest. I desire that it may be expedited.”
The brave sons of India also wished not to wear the death cap, mandatory for those condemned to death by hanging.Bhagat Singh walked in the centre with Rajguru on his right and Sukhdev on his left. It is reported that Bhagat Singh recited two Urdu verses before his death. One was:
Dil sey mur kar bhee neh nikleygee watan kee ulfut
Myree muttee sey khushbouey watan aayeygee.
The other verse recited at the end by Bhagat Singh linked him to the last Mughal emperor, Bahadur Shah ‘Zafar,’ who perished in exile in Rangoon on November 7, 1862, after seeing 21 descendants executed for their role in the First War of Independence in 1857 and his city and palace devastated, destroyed and desecrated by the British. This verse read:
Naa kisee kee aankh kaa nour houn, naa kisee kay dil kaa qaraar houn
Joa kisee kay kaam naa aa sukay mein woah eyk mushtey ghubaar houn

Bhagat Singh was a noble and brave man. He had a very fine taste for good poetry and remembered a large number of verses from Urdu classics. His favourite verse those days, which he often hummed, was from Iqbal,
Dear friends, I am only a guest. My stay is brief. I am a candle that has burnt itself from the night upto the morning. I shall soon be blown out.

Sat-Sat naman to Bhagat Singh ji....

Ajj bhi desh ko aise hi logoi ki jaroorat hai!!

Ajj bhi desh ko aise hi logoi ki jaroorat hai jo aapne aap ko gumnam se nyochhavar kar de is watan ki sarfehrist mein!!

Again you have written pretty nicely!!

Bhagat SIngh,His Matrydom and Beyond?

Like any other Indian, listening, reading, thinking about freedom fighters, gives me privilege to feel proud. On the other hand left me thinking and confuse. Bhagat Singh was the gem of a person and his sacrifice at very young age fills me with curiosities about his life and contributions. His ways, his vision of a wholistic independent India in every aspect makes me curious to know more and more about him.

The message written on the wall of barrack number 14 indicates his love, his fear (not of course of death) and his commitment. One mean or another could have saved him as his popularity was crossing everything those days but his stubbornness of dieing to reach to every home left me empty many times. When he knew he had a wholistic approach for India even after Freedom, Why did he leave the country in the hands of feudal and capitalist leaders of Congress. His ideas deserved to be mould in a leading ideology. His notion of dieing leaves me in dejection, as he was the one along with Neta Ji who had dreamt of a different India with Indian way of ruling. He knew the art of dieing but why living was difficult for him.? Its living which require grip over things and continuous struggle. Visionary at such a young age, why did he choose death to reach to every mother’s womb. It also make me think n I'm asking to fellow Jatlanders about the nature of any struggle---Do the higher energy of violent or aggressive movements lands in to exhausted feelings as compared to steady and non-violent? His longer life span would have done more than his death to the country. I salute his Determination, Zeal and Vision of a Fully Independent India.

पिछ्ले साल विकास राठी ने भी एक धागा लिखा था - A Salute To Shaheed Bhagat Singh ।

MERA RANG DE BASANTI CHOLA……………………alise truth, "The aim of life is no more to control the mind, but to develop it harmoniously; not to achieve salvation here after, but to make the best use of it here below; and not to realise truth, beauty and good only in contemplation, but also in the actual experience of daily life; social progress depends not upon the ennoblement of the few but on the enrichment of democracy; universal brotherhood can be achieved only when there is an equality of opportunity - of opportunity in the social, political and individual life." — from Bhagat Singh's prison diary

I ve been to hussaniwala Samark n samadhi at the banks of Sutluj,,, and when you are there, reading his letters,, looking at the belongings, books etc..all makes so overwhelmed with emotions... emotions of patiotism specially.

Very nice Dr. Dahiya.
Thanks for reminding yet again the sacrifice.
It gives me goose bumps whenever I get to read about the great soul.

everybody is proud of Bhagat Singh.... n its an irony that d thinking which is in his mind is subject for hate.......
coz in north india 2 call somebody communist is like abusing..
it would not be a surprise if most people get shock to know n resist that he was amongst the first hard core communists from india.... n by hard core i mean he is an atheist n kill a human very proudly if it helps to fight against capitalism.......
its hard to accept for some but true that bhagat singh wants india to be freed n on d path of socialism.
n tht political view doesnt seek any difference whether ur skin colour is white or black........... n as he was amongst d creams of tht.........
so wats left to watch was whether he wud get d same popularity if he fight against our local black indian loards n politicians after frredom?

Very well said Malik.I would rate it the Post of the Month.Except some parts of India People see socialist as sub human and anti development.Since philosophy and life of Bhagat Singh ended, its just easy to pay tributes n feeling proud kind of things. Its time of "Amoral -pro-market mechanical-non humanism", Bhagat singh's day would be forgotten soon.I'm disappointed as well, people started thread(s) of a lazy game's(so does the mentality) tournament in adavance and fought(and fighting n will keep on), no one came in advance to discuss the significance of 'those patriots'in todays scenario of 'rising post colonial-hangover'.Patriotism has changed its meaning as well, its better to coin "Regional-Seasonal Patriotism" in every aspect. Its more towards shouting n behvaing like pseudo patriots.
But time see all and Like Kaurav King Dhratrastra,I'm dangerously hopeful of winning over seasonal things.
Keep on writing.

Maybe if we had our freedom that way, it could also have been possible that the country was in a alltogether different state. But, the truth is that we, indian genes is addicted to slavery, n domination. Bhagat singh's idea could never have been successfully implemented in india.
Maybe that could also have been the reason why we got majority of the krantikaris from Punjab n Bengal. Unfortunately, we jats have not contributed to any such movements. Maybe, we were not in a position to contribute.

Shahid Bhagat Singh Sandhu

Jat - Shahid - Sher - Dharti ka lal - Inqalab - Jawan Khoon

sar katane ki tammana ab hamaare dil mein hai
dekhna hai jor kitna baju-e-katil mein hai

Shahid Bhagat Singh Sandhu ka naam lete hi yeh sari bate dimakh me aati hein.

Un jaisa or koi na to kabhi paida hua hai or na hi kabhi hoga ...

Its so shameful .. so bloody shameful that Rajiv Ghandhi's anniversaries are celebrated with such pompous and glamour and Shahid Bhagat Singh not even remembered .. shame on all of us

and shame on our "Spineless, respectless" politicians ....... they are worth nothing ..... they are parasites feeding on us ...... praying on our insecurities and gullible minds

what the hell did Rajiv Gandhi do for this country ??
he was born in power with a golden spoon in his mouth and he was killed because of his own folly ....... he did not die for this county but for his own arrogance and miscalculations ......... and now he gets more respect and recognition than a True Martyr ......

How can we people look in the mirror every morning and feel good about ourselves .. How ???

How is it possible ??

Shame on you .. and shame on me ....... we should lynch these bloody politicians .. who do nothing but exploit us ..

no one came in advance to discuss the significance of 'those patriots'in todays scenario of 'rising post colonial-hangover'.Patriotism has changed its meaning as well, its better to coin "Regional-Seasonal Patriotism" in every aspect. Its more towards shouting n behvaing like pseudo patriots.

shouting n behaving like pseudo patriots ve its significances....
to make it more simple.
look at d two recent movies made on bhagat singh...
1 with Ajay Devgan. in which they tried to put bhagat singh engagement stuff bt atleast discuss him as commrade.....
on contrary look at pseudo patriot Bobby Deol 1... thts d mentality..... put aishwarya n masala bt d ideology n seriousness ve to give way 4 people demands.....
n d new 1 'Rang De Basanti'....... again i wonder wat wud be d result if they show bhagat n other commrades discussing socalism all d time ,, discussing russia.. marks..... lenin......

naked truth is that a pure thing(movie or govt acknowledgement) is due on him.....
bt as people nt at all want to discuss that n if smbody stratch this far he/she wud get sm disciplinery actions 4m edit board...
Gandhi is adopted by congress... savarker n party from RSS........
bt bhagat singh is free 4 evrybody( indian socialist parties done a nice job here)....
people would vomit if they come to know all revolutionary of post freedom belong to communism.....
Azad, Batukeshwer, Asfakullah, Bismil etc....... famous or nt famous ........ all ve only 1 dream in thr eyes socialism..... n look people think they fight against englishmen:D .... thts irony n cant be changed.......
long live d patriots of india.......

Samar Singh Kadian and other sathio,
Thanks a lot for participating and putting your views in this thread. I was away for few days.We have to really understand the ideas which he carried and the type of dream he had about Independent India. May be we may not agree to his views but at least we try to understand these .
Bhagat Singh was one of the many young Indians who sacrificed their lives at the altar of Indian freedom; others too kissed the noose and embraced the gallows with a defiant cry of Inkalab Zindabad! on their lips. Bhagat Singh should primarily be studied as a political figure of that time. It should be noted that as early as the beginning of 1928, when he was just entering his twenties, he and his sathi, Bhagwati Charan Vohra, very correctly visualised the future course of political development in India-some sort of Round Table Conference; a compromise between the British and the Congress leaders; a gradual merging of a section of Indian capital with British capital, the congress leadership becoming the spokesmen for this section of capitalists; the feudal forces compromising with the emerging capalists of India. They also asserted that some of the then champions of the freedom struggle would , in due course, become the champions of Indo- British 'cooperation' and betray the cause of national freedom. After that, they said, task of leading and carrying forward the freedom struggle would fall to the workers and peasants, to the common people, led by the proletariat and a party based on the messes and relying on the teaching of Marx. All these points amply emerge from the letters and documents written by Bhagat Singh and especially from the Manifesto of the Naujwan Bhagat Sabha which was drafted mainly by him and Bhagwati Charan Vohra and adopted by all of them. This seem to be correct now after 58 years of independence.

Definitely Bhagat Singh differed from the earlier revolutionary martyrs; it is in this that he rose higher than many of the political leaders of his time and in this lay his greatness. It is also true that he had come very near Marxism towards the end of his days. In one of his letters to Sukh Dev, he wrote: " You and I may not live but our people will survive. The cause of Marxism and Communism is sure to win." Bhagat Singh was link between the Revolutionaries of the past and the communist movement of today.
