The his excellancy the president of india dr aA P J abdul kalam has constantly in all forum referred to the dream of india being in the distinguished club of developed nations can we reach that status or do we deserve this.

This in the light of increased lack of concern to the nation except for a choosen few, there is increasing corruptiuon, crime against women becoming brutal.,and also increasing incidence of casteist discrimastion towards people of lower and subjugated castes.

The increasing crime rate in all the indian cities, have made people all the more vulnerable forcing them to be confined to homes after night ..

INDIA WILL BE DEVELOPED BEFORE 2020.

Bro, Why dont you refer his excellency APJ Abdul Kalam book India 2020
(A vision for the new millennium). There is no need to ask everyone here to put some points on this topic as i believe lot of threads had discuss on India's development in Jatlands.

Secondly the points were put by you as corruption, against women becoming brutal.,and also increasing incidence of casteist discrimastion towards people of lower and subjugated castes doesn't compliance that india can become developed country if we eliminate them as you know these things are too common in United States and British too .

So here are the few points you can through some lights as India's lack of Infrastructure facility, Poor health and primary education , ineffective in reducing the public sector deficit, low level of per capita income, high incidence of poverty which is downgrading and hurting us and in order to overcome such issues Indian Govt had put collectively efforts on much rated projects which can take us to Developed country category.

You can discuss on some major running projects declared by Indian Govt as 1) Bharat Nirman
2) Interlinking of rivers
3) Indo-US atomic deal
4) Hot rated SEZ
5) TRAI 3G spectrum to service provider
6) DTH and IP TV
7) Indian defence indigenous fighter plane project (LCA)
8) Space and Missiles project
9) Drip Irrigation technology to cultivate barren land
10) Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)
11) Golden Quadrilateral national Highway Project
12) Rajiv Gandhi Gram Vidyuthikaran Yojana
13) National E-Governance Plan
14) State Wide Area Network (SWAN)
15) Midday Meal Scheme
16) Hot rated national Food-for-work programme.

Lots of such topics are there to talk on which. I believe if you choose 5-6 you can crack the debate. You remind me of my college days i had choosen the same topic but only difference is few of such projects are running and majority are in pipeline.

All the best !!

Although Abdul Kalam is not a truely political person but this statement from him bears a political stamp. May be he doesn't know what today's world refers to as developed country. I am not saying he's not aware but somehow he ended up playing with words rather than directly hitting the target.

It's just a matter of coincidence. I happened to discuss the same issue with my father who is on 3 months visit to France. I didn't ask him this question during his first 2 months but only last week. After having spent more than 2 months here, he just replied..it'll take hundreds of years to be at par with these guys. He's simply impressed by nationalist nature of people here..and ofcourse the honesty with which they perform their duties. The sense of security among people, abiding by law, fear of administration/police, personal space are some of the main points he highlighted about daily life here.
After getting all these inputs from him, I was a bit hesitant to start discussion on amount of corruption in India with him...I thought it's enough.

For him, as long as we don't think that these are the problems inflicting India, we don't have a feeling for our country. He hopes the day we, our govt., our politicians will be honest to ourselves and work towards a developed nation, we'll be seeing India as developed soon. May be it'll take 100+ years or just 20 more years...it's all about Nation building!

That's very true Navin bhiya.. Irrespective to the GDP growth rate we will not be able to walk along with these nations unless we ensure the implementation of real objectives of the democracy.

exactly. Our problem is not resources, but moral of our people. Indians work best only under crisis situations and on case to case basis. Let us not forget that we slided into this mess from the position of world leadership few hundred years back. Our morals have decayed over years and bringing them back is not an easy task. It needs national commitment and dedication and not just laws on paper. Its not just India, entire world is decaying. USA is not the USA it used to be 30 years back. I have seen lots of decay in Uk as well over years.

Infrastructural development of India will not take more than 5-10 years if one billion people join hands in all their honesty...One billion hands can dig whole Earth many times over on 5 years.. They won't need machines and electricity.. However, problem is how to motivate these one billion people to join hands.. Politicians can never do that..

when i asked the same question to one of my uncles, he replied :

Corruption is the biggest problem in India. Huge amounts are spent on infrastructure and it will be a mess till there is some accountability. The average person is just trying to survive, they really don't care if the country becomes a superpower or not. My main worries during the day are how long will there be a power outage. How much will the cop extract from me. How many bumps on the road do I have to endure and will there be water in my house tonight. I pay taxes and I don't know where all the money goes, so don't talk of being a superpower. It's just a topic for people to discuss when they drive by me in their air conditioned cars.

Your uncle is right. I've lived in the U.S. for over 5 years. Not all people are hard working and honest here. But the systems over here are such that it keeps people honest. Everything is organized and managed properly. People are very practical and majority of the people here have a low tolerence for nonsense - they get angry real fast if they feel someone trying to walk over them. I think they are more individualistic. Being individualistic means you take care of yourself first and you have your own views an opinions and you act on them. In India we are not raised to be individuals. We are just part of the crowd. Almost have the same views and opinions - have the same dreams and aspirations - do the same things etc. I think we should try more to break away from the pack.

BTW, in my opinion I think Jats have a low tolernce for nonsense compared to other ppl - because we are arrogant we should try to channel that arrogance in the right direction - maybe against corruption. Pick up a fight with somebody when they ask you for a bribe - you might actually enjoy it.;)

There is book by Gurcharan Das called 'Unbound India', it talks about economic and social developments of India in the coming 20 to 40 years. He thinks western half of India (if we draw a line from Kanpur to Kanyakumari) is going to be developed 2020 and the other half will take another 20 years to be developed but the meaning of being developed will not be same as US or UK.

India cannot be a super power until the poor can afford food and clean water. A country which cannot handle common mans problem cannot become a super power nor for that matter can be called as a developing country.

No way india can develop till 2020. If u see the whole scene of present india this is totally out of track to be a develop nation upto 2020. Infact i think can we ever be a develop nation cos a develop nation should be develop from every part. I wish kabhee aisa ho but this wish is not small.
