Watched Chak De here in little India in LA and had a great time hooting for the Indian team. Even it was a litlle corny at times (the cricket bashing through an a***ole cricketer) but it stayed true to the genre of inspirational sports movie.

What really was endearing that a Haryanvi Jatni (I know, I know Chautala... These writers never do their homework!) could bury the personal hatchet and rise for the team. I was with other Indians from all over and I could proudly tell them thats a Haryanvi for you(sorry if you are from other state :p).

Thats how we are. We rise to the occasion.

Chak de for Indian women! I whole heartedly share the sentiment with Shahrukh that you women are truly amazing and are capable of doing anything. Seriously. Godspeed!

So go out and conquer the world girl. The World is your playground.

(And if you are single I would be really interested in meeting you...:D)

Disclaimer - the writer of Chak de and me are old buddies and we compete in coming up with the corniest line. So please do not be offended by any of it.

Foolish criticism !!!

Is it necessary to criticise other sport (cricket) to bring a drawning one (hockey) in limelight for improvement? I donot think any cricketer will talk the way it is shown in this film. This is a totally negative attitude and thats why we are suffering!

Why cannot people prove themselves without criticizing others? Why do people criticise a person who can run, before announcing to the world that they can crawl too ?

Reasonably Good Movie

Dear Members.

Having seen your praise for the movie, I also made it to the Cinema Hall, even though I see most of my movies at home.

I would say following things about the movie. Firstly: it is good to see Yashraj Banner getting out of Love Story and taking a chance on some thing more relevent subject.

Secondly: It does exposes the Indian Hockey Federation's working and attitude towards the sport. What it misses out on is the real problem. I have seen some time the best does not even reaches the state level leave aside reaching the national level. So what a Coach gets probably is not always the best, be it Hockey, or any other sport "Cricket" included. I have seen while student in the college, that selection of some people in the team was on all counts other than their talent, performance or commitment to the sport.

It would have been a good idea to expose the administration a bit more. The politics of getting to the top of the management with political links and trying to serve the political masters rather than sport.

I had seen in my career, where one good athlete was not allowed to participate in a particular event of athletics by a "COACH" himself, because his favorite sports person would have lost the spot in the team. The Coach went on to get the "Dronacharya" award. I had written an article on this line in early ninetees. I named article " In search of Gold", where I was trying to find, train and get some one to the olympic level to win a gold in athletics.

Movie does brings out the attitude of the parents as well as society's toward girls, which is unfortunate but true.

Over all a reasonable movie to watch. It could have been made better by exposing corruption at each level to make it a complete package. The good point is that the producers would know, that a successful movie can be made without unwanted songs, discos, and off course nudity.

Rightly said , it's nt necessary to criticize any other sport to magnify one. But then its also true that in India, Cricket is highly overemphasized. People are crazy about the sport. still its okay,, if the Govt. pays attention to other sports also.
[Chak De India-Goravgatha or Fantasy]
well Chak De ... is a gauravgatha, nt a fantasy as its based on the real success story of Indian Women Hockey Team. The journey of this team was very much like this; starting from Haryana to CommonWealth n then Asian Champions.
A prog. on the movie yesterday was on air on CNN, n there Mamta Kharab - Indian women Hockey Team Lead Player from Rohtak, Haryana,,,,, on whom the character of komal chautala is based,,,,- was saying my character played by komal is very well portrayed.. very much similar to the real Mamta Kharab .
And its my view that movie Chak De.. ll definitely help boost the game in India.
N as far as the movie is concerned..... its superb. very distinct from the routine Hindi films wid songs n love stories.

Neelam Ji, I agree, this movie is awesome. It is nice inspiration for women and men both. But, if I am not wrong, even tried to verify the facts, India never won Women's Hockey World Cup, The best they could reach was semifinal in 1974. That might be an achievement but it still remain a Fantasy to win the Women's Hockey World Cup. If I am wrong please correct me.

Here is the deatail list of Women Hockey world cup winners
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_Hockey_World_Cup

The theme is good but while claiming to put national interest first and also criticing the national cricket team, shows the hippocracy of director, author and everyone in production team. In 1983, no one expected India to won the world cup in Cricket. After that the cricket team has reached semifinal and final too. Is it crickets' fault that so many people love it? The primary moto of cricket, hockey or any other game is entertainment, and thats why many people like cricket as it entertains them better than hockey, because at present, they are doing better than hockey.

It will be really nice if other games become as popular as cricket and win championships. But we cannot blame cricket for degradation of other games. Games like hockey degraded due to corrupt system which includes everyone from politicians to players. Today Sania Mirza is very popular, just because of her achievement.Indian Hockey can reach the same hight as of past, but it has to prove on field first, and Indian public will love it again.
