For AAM AADMI PARTY- The Real Test Starts with acceptance of support from Congress

Leaving behind the election slogan raising and manifesto declarations, the fact is that like rest of political parties, [forgetting the pious pledges of neither seeking help for government formation nor extending support either of the Congress or B J P], AAM AADMI PARTY has emerged pragmatic power player with its leader Arvind Kejariwal going to adorn the chair of the Chief Minister of Delhi on 26th December, 2013 and that too with the acceptance of support from his arc-rival Congress.

Does this not amount to renunciation of the pledge oft-times repeated before the media and electorate that the party is committed to usher in a new era in Indian politics providing corruption free all inclusive development. Does the Government based on Congress support would be able to get freedom to implement its election manifesto. If not, who would be responsible for its failure, Congress or AAP.

Then, after formation of government with the support of the Congress what is different in AAP and other political parties to which AAp so vehemently shouted from house tops.

The people across the country were looking forward to emergence of a new type of political party whose leaders seemed to be from common strata of society and above temptation of power grabbing and firm on their avowed policies and programmes.

These are some of the points agitating the minds of people. You may have more points, so kindly join here to share the same.

Thanks and regards

And the twists and turns in the Congress AAP have come to surface. Read the following statement:

16:04 LIVE! Cong: Our decision to support AAP for govt formation not correct : Congress Gen Secy Janardan Dwivedi on the party's support to AAP. He says, "There is an opinion in the Congress that perhaps the decision to support AAP for government formation is not correct. Mandate was not for Congress, perhaps we should have played the role of opposition and raised people's issues."

So, is the Congress rethinking its support? Another visit to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's residence in the offing?

The opening para reads:

"The Aam Aadmi Party’s journey from mass movement to political office in just one year is without a parallel in Indian electoral history, reflecting as it does a popular yearning for change from the models of governance on offer today. A disenchanted electorate is clearly behind the resounding mandate to the Arvind Kejriwal-led party which made an ambitious leap from the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare. Yet, history has been made and the AAP is now poised to form a government in Delhi with Mr. Kejriwal as Chief Minister. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which was ahead of the AAP by three seats, wisely decided not to form a government through horse-trading and the Congress did not have the numbers. Given the high moral ground on which the AAP had placed the game of government formation, the BJP could not afford to be seen as any less righteous than the AAP. Yet, the AAP itself was caught in a quandary having declared in the electoral run-up that it would not seek or offer support to the Congress and the BJP. But going back to the voters for a fresh mandate was not an option because that would have been a betrayal of the faith the voters had reposed in the AAP — a first-time party that had come within a whisker of power because of the hope it offered for political renewal and transformation. " .................................

The reported differences on the names of proposed members of the Kejariwal Cabinet is another ugly controversy on the 'fair' name of the elected representatives as servants of the people. This shows sheer fight for spoils amongst the AAP MLAs.

The hankering for power may be shunned by the newly elected MLAs remembering their poll time promises and this may be followed by ushering in of a new era of corruption free transparent administration. Otherwise this victory would prove to be short term bubble in the history of democracy in India.

Let us pray, the new ray of hope ignited by coming of AAP may be kept alive so that other established political parties could be compelled to soul search their successes and failures and improve themselves to prove their worth under the changed milieu of 21st century India.

The AAP has a hugely positive mandate from people. Their brand image has been built on clean and no-nonsense politics targetted at the common man. If they can stick to it and avoid the traps that come with power, they can expand their presence in other states also.

Many of their promises are deliverable if carefully applied. With IITs and learned intellectuals in the team they shouldn't have problems in fulfilling their promises. They have to think of earning extra revenue though as most of their promises can bleed the treasury.

'Divide and Rule', a policy which was created by Britishers (Missionaries), and Mastered by Congress and Commies. Indian elephant needs to wake up from her deep slumber sleep of 1000 years of deception and subjugation by the foreign forces and their 'Proxies'. Time is 2014. -- Dr. Subramanian Swamy

Whereas everybody is busy either condemning them for taking support from Congress or speculating their success, it's nice to read something optimistic about them.

What strange bed fellows -- Congress and AAP.

Does this taking support from Congress by AAP not negate the mandate given by the people of Delhi which is against the Congress hoping to keep it away from Delhi governance affairs !

The AAP has a hugely positive mandate from people ! Is it being squandered !!

Is that mandate not against the Congress on the crunches of help from that party AAP is forming Government. Would they do justice with the alleged 'misdeeds and corrupt practices of the then Delhi Congress government' as drummed about during the election days.

Does this not tantamount to making mockery of the aspirations of people who wanted to see a different brand of polity from AAP.

Like congress was created by Britishers than rulers, AAP was created by congress with aims of weakening Anna moment and depriving BJP to take anti congress votes, since Indian public has gone corrupt Kejeriwal and his people are part of the Indian society and it would be foolish to consider them honest specially kejeriwal, but off course, he has earned a good name and chair of CM, i DONOT feel there will be much difference, Being a very canning person, he has made ful use of mood of Delhi public, with in few months things will be very clear to all of us.

I guess all these things are immaterial if they get a chance to work for atleast 6 months and prove that they say and they do. Congress is in a fix. I knw all his claims are not feasible, but if he is going to deliver 40-50% that would be more than enough for him to form a base at National level.

I see your point. It does seem like a betrayal of the mandate to take support from Congress. But to quote Yogendra Yadav, AAP's 'decision' to go ahead and form a govt based on Congress support is being seen with pre-set political frame works and points of views. AAP has made it clear that this is no alliance and nor would they shy away from taking on Congressmen accused in scams.

AAP's claim to be different is based on their promises of governance. So their ultimate test is how they govern and fulfill their promises. I think we can let pessimism and cynicism rest for a while and let AAP govern. Yes, they are are possibly falling into a trap by accepting outside support, but if they can still perform for the limited time they will be in power then nothing like it.

What is your view on the Jai Prakash Narayan led movement of the 70s? Was it also a Congress game plan? I think we can let conspiracy theories rest for a while and see how this experiment turns out. They can't do much worse than the alternatives, can they? :)

My personal belief is that Kejriwal will deliver !!!!! His 18 points are not a populist agenda ( like free laptops or free cycles etc etc ) but are based on AAP's intenstive research !!

Meanwhile, you can see that other parties have already started following his path. See this : - http://www.tribuneindia.com/2013/20131226/haryana.htm#8

I too believe the same. Moreover, taste of the pudding is in eating. AAP has promised to deliver on most promises within three months. We will know it much before general elections. Face of Indian politics will certainly change from now on.

Let us hope AAP starts a new era of change, change for better in Indian polity.

He may not be able to fulfil all the promises due to inadequate political support in Assembly or non-availabiligty of funds. But his integrity is beyond doubt and all designs to entrap him by his political rivals will only backfire because people are minutely watching the developments. Kejriwal is an untiring crusador and will carry the anti-corruption movement to its logical culmination. Outcome of Delhi election is a strategic boost to his campagin which has caused anxiety in some political camps. More and more intellectuls, social workers and professionals with clean image are now inclidned to allign with AAP after Delhi outcome and the momemtum is likely to go to the next gear soon.

With all inklings of a positive change in the political scene in Delhi, I will still keep my fingers crossed and see how it unfolds. The Congress are past masters at political games and one cannot count them out of coming up with a wily scheme to derail AAP's momentum. Not to forget, media has a very important role here. A couple of planted stories about internal discord (we already saw one fizzle out), corruption, favoritism and it can all go downhill. So AAP needs to be dedicated to its promises and also be smart about their new 'friends' :)
