The great lal of Haryana, passed away five years back, on 6 April 2001. After his demise, U.S. Rana of New Delhi had written a tribute for the ex-leader which read as under :

Tau rey tau…
Tanney sher ko bakree banaayaa
Rajiv ka raaj hataayaa
Buttey ko jadd se ukhaara

[You made a goat out of a tiger
You removed Rajiv from his throne
And uprooted Boota Singh from his roots.]

The great symbol of Jats ‘Pugree’ and the pious word of respect “Tau” was gifted by Maham-Chaubissi only to this great leader – no other politician was ever bestowed with this degree of honour except Chaudhary Chhotu Ram. On his 5th death anniversary, let all of us remember those days when our Great Tau was known all over India.

He was a mass leader and a true son of soil........This great man will ever be remembered for his earthiness and a kind heart for weaks and oppressed.I respect this man in every sense of things.May God bless his soul in heaven.He always gave to others and took pride in calling himself a Jat.Tau word is synonymos with only CHAUDHARI DEVI LAL JI. Such kinda people are born on this land once in millions of years.My salute to this great man.

Tau ka koi mukabla na huya kise tein...aar na howe...yeh langdoo Chautala....aar uske woh raakas se raakas se chhorey....Tau ki image aage kitte bhi na tikte......

Ch.Devilal passed away five years back but he is still living in the hearts of his people, a greatstrugller who brought haryana on national map

I rember once my grandfather who used to work along with chaudhary shaab told me that during the days whenharyana was a part ofpunjab ch.shaab used to go todelhi to makeharyana a seprate state once a news reporter askedchaudharyshaab "Chudharyshaab app bus se aya or akali to tange mai aya thea kab ke mil ke chale gaya chaudhary shaab bole bhai yahi to farak mera mai or un mai janta party mai hu or janta bus mai chalti hai "

Ch. Devi Lal was GREAT.

My grandfather and Ch. Devi Lal were friends. The man was really a true Jat soul and a mass leader. I still can't forget the moment told by me elders when my grandfather was shot by a sniper while travelling by train and than admitted at SMS Hospital Jaipur and then Ch. devi Lal send three hundred volunteers from Hayana to donate blood. Just for the sake of a jat's life. He respected my grandfather for his freedom fight struggle and the real struggle against Rajput's in Rajasthan.

My best salutation to the Greatest Jat Ch. Devi Lal.

During the Deputy Prime Ministership of Tau Devi Lal, Delhi-based media had actually developed a biased attitude towards him – reasons best known to them. Most of the media personnel in the capital happened to be urban-based and there could have been a certain amount of jealousy in them. When other leaders organize evening parties and press conferences, they freely offer alcoholic drinks to the media personnel – but Ch. Devi Lal never offered such drinks to anyone, except tea or milk. Media went to the extreme publicity about Tau having a full-fledged dairy of buffalos and cows in his residential bungalow in President’s estate. While he did have 2-3 Jersey cows, the media projected it in an exaggerated style. Seeing these reports in newspapers, the villagers used to comment : “Suppose Rajiv Gandhi today keeps a cow at his residence, he will be projected as Krishan Bhagwan, the cow-grazer. Ye akhbaar-wale Chaudhuri sahab ke peeche kyon padde hain?”

Disturbed by paper reports, the then President R. Venkataraman had called Chaudhari Saheb for a discussion. When asked about the presence of cows at his premises, a cause of ‘pollution’, he promptly replied :

“I am keeping only 2-3 cows which provide 20-22 kilograms of milk on a daily basis - I have no objection in shifting them out of Delhi. But there are about 250 horses and mules in Rashtrapati Bhawan premises which are good for nothing – being used only on a few occasions and producing ‘leed’ (dung) rest of the time – causing more ‘pollution’. Will you please order these to be kept away from this place?”.

Reportedly, the President had to keep mum – no answer for Tau’s “haazir-jawaab” style of a true Jat !

Fond memories

Very fond memories of Tau. This one is a bit humorous.

Once Tau Devi Lal had fought for Lok Sabha seat from Kurukshetra. During an election rally, Tauji was sitting on the stage and the hired Bhajan-Mandli was singing:

Haryana ki janta ka dukh-dard haranniya aa-gya,
Atyaachaar aur bhrastachaar ka naass karaniyan aa-gya
……..
Nass karanniyan aa-gya rey yo naass karanniya aa-gya ……
Naass karanniyan ……. (repeat this line a couple of times)

हरयाणा की जनता का दुख-दर्द हरणियां आ-ग्या
अत्याचार और भ्रष्टाचार का नास करणियां आ-ग्या

नास करणियां आ-ग्या रै यो नास करणियां आ-ग्या

The public sitting in the ‘rally’ was mad with laughter.

Tau stood up and cried in anger: “Arey maro inkey …Bhagaa dyo…”

And the Bhajan-party was husked away.

Really He was a the son of soil. I respect him a lot. He was a gr8 Jat leader.

Chaudhary Devi Lal was born on 25 September, 1914. In the memory of this great Jat personality, let us remember him today, on the occasion of his 92nd birth anniversary. This thread has nothing to do with current Chautala controversy.

sahi cheez hai bhayion har bhai nae jo likha hai yahan par ekdam sach hai, tau jaisa na koi tha na hai aur na hi koi umeed dikhti hai ki koi hoga.

wish we had more people in our community/country of this great stature.

Tau will allways be rembembered by us all and even others(non-jats).

This girl student from Delhi gained membership in December 2005 but has put 3 posts - all of them today only and all the three posts are like a fireball. It is not certain whether she will revert back to read all this.

Pragya ji, please do not be annoyed, I have not said anything against Rajiv Gandhi. The quote about him (Post No. 9) had been the talk of the day which many of us (I mean the persons of my age) used to hear from villagers' mouth in those days. You are a student now and I guess you must have been in your early childhood in those days. Those who have seen the happenings with their own eyes are better witnesses to the facts, rather than those who have just read something in history books.

This thread is only in memory of Ch. Devi Lal, nothing else. However, it is a well known fact that 1987 Assembly election of Haryana (in which Congress was completely rejected by voters) was a big blow to Rajiv Gandhi who had got a thumping 85% majority at Dec. 1984 Lok Sabha elections. The 1987 election of Haryana paved the way for Rajiv Gandhi's defeat in 1989. It was Tau's charisma that after Rajiv Gandhi, Congress has never been able to gain absolute majority in Centre. Narasimha Rao's government survived because of external support, so does the present one.
