Gwalior: It's not the first time that LK Advani has pitted Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan against his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi, seen by many as a frontrunner to be the BJP's presumptive prime minister in the next general elections. Today, Mr Advani said Mr Chouhan's "humility" reminded him of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In the BJP, that is extravagant praise. Mr Advani said, "Vajpayee always remained very humble and far away from arrogance. Similarly, I found Chouhan very humble, like Vajpayee." It is being seen as a direct jab at Mr Modi, who likes to detail how he scripted Gujarat's economic growth story in every speech he makes.

Mr Advani also said today that Gujarat was already economically prosperous when Mr Modi took over and that the BJP leader had only made it better. "I always tell Narendra Modi that Gujarat was already prosperous, 'You have multiplied the development there'... But Madhya Pradhesh and Chhattisgarh were not so prosperous... After multiplying the rate of development in Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj ji is still humble as a person." Mr Advani's contention is almost in line with the Congress', which holds that Mr Modi's success in Gujarat is built on the foundation that its governments had laid in the state.



The BJP's seniormost leader was speaking at a Madhya Pradesh state executive meet and his comments underscore a leadership tussle in the BJP.


There are large sections in the party that want Mr Modi to be declared the party's candidate for PM for the 2014 elections, now months away. But the BJP has not done that in the face of vehement opposition from crucial allies like the Janata Dal (United), which says that the taint of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat under Mr Modi's watch makes him unacceptable.


Mr Modi has assiduously attempted to obliterate that taint with an image makeover that casts him as an efficient, development-oriented administrator. The 85-year-old Mr Advani, also seen as a claimant to the top post, has repeatedly projected Mr Chouhan's abilities as though to highlight that Mr Modi is not the only successful BJP chief minister.


When Mr Modi was inducted into the BJP's parliamentary board, an elite group of 12 top leaders who take the most important decisions in the party, Mr Advani had suggested that Mr Chouhan be inducted. Party president Rajnath Singh later explained that there was only one place and Mr Modi was picked.

Not sure why BJP wants to hurt itself more then any one else ... without a good performance by any one them( Chauhan and Modi ) BJP will be nothing in next elections . Both of them are equally imp . The only question is Advani could praise Chauhan without doing any comparision with Modi .... Why he did that ?????

Becasue advani ki tarif karta hai chauhan n advani khud ko ab bhi PM candidate dekhta hai.
 
This is going to be Modi or nobody. BJP can't risk of naming a PM candidate other than Modi. Either they will declare him or they will not declare a name at all. This is going to be intresting, sidelining modi will lead to demise of BJP.
 
To be very fronk, this time advani has spoken trueth, also modi is not that cable and good as jatlaners think and project him, however, advani still remains biggest block in the progress of BJP

So who is the suitable candidate for PM post?
 
Looks like Advani has decided to bring out his long suspected opposition to Modi in the open. Now is the crunch time for BJP. The pre-poll activities have started and this is a good time to announce their PM candidate. Modi's candidature may hinge on Advani's support or the lack of it. If he dislikes Modi enough, he will stick to his support for Chauhan or project himself as the PM.
 
जहाँ एक ओर सारे सर्वे मोदी को पीएम का सबसे बड़ा प्रत्याशी बता रहे हैं वहीं आडवाणी को तीसरे मोर्चे का पीएम दिख रहा है।
जहाँ एक ओर शिक्षित युवा मोदी को देख रहे हैं वहीं आडवाणी को युवा बीजेपी से दूर होते दिख रहे हैं।

जहाँ एक ओर मोदी के नाम पर बीजेपी के भार में वृद्धि हो रही है वहीं आडवाणी को अब अपनी वाली बीजेपी नही दिख रही है।

जहाँ पूरा विश्व आज गुजरात मॉडल की चर्चा कर रहा है वहीं आडवाणी को गुजरात में कुछ विशेष नही दिख रहा है।

ये सब केवल मात्र संयोग है अथवा कोई योजनाबद्ध षड़यंत्र ?

जो भी है जनता अब सब समझती भी है एवं समझाना जानती भी है।

लाख संकेत कर लो आडवाणी जी अब कुछ छिपने वाला नही।


सत्य सबके सामने आएगा एक दिन ।

बीजेपी वाले लगातार व्यस्त हैं। 2014 में उन्हें कांग्रेस से लड़ना है और 2014 तक आपस में !

All the anti BJP or pro congress or people who give bi-partisan view are seeing this as a civil war within BJP but you along with many people who are missing the point is they are being compared on the development being done in two states not on the scale of corruption. even if Modi improved the state whose economy was better than MP but BJP took over MP from congress after their decade of rule, why no one talking about that? and you use Chauhan's prism then congress on those 13 states will fall flat dear so talk about that as well. Modi se itni nafrat mat kar verna tujhe usse pyar ho jayega :)

You are highly mistaken and have ignored at least my posts in a rut to show your neutrality towards politics. Check Modi's thread and you will find enough comparisons where in I have always praised Chauhan over Modi, and not just Chauhan but Raman Singh too. e.g. The food bill Congress is ranting about is in existence with a next to perfect PDS in Chattisgarh, and 1 among 12 state to have it so far.

Modi se dar nahi lagta sahib, uske chamcho se lagta hai ;) Waise your reply matches to what BJPs folks said to cover up

To me no present politician of BJP is capable but seeing past experience, any lay man can perform in that chair, Here discussion was on chauhan and modi, so TO ME CHAUHAN SEEMS TO BE MORE CAPABLE/SUITABLE CANDIDATE AND IN ANY CASE SEEING THE PRESENT SITUATION, BJP ALONE CANNOT GET EVEN SIMPLE MAJORITY, and no other party will support modi, so it seems to me that floating another name IS A GOOD IDEA to counter moves of CM Bihar, janta dal, mulayam etc. In any case chauhan is much batter than modi, modi is only reagional player and not champeion of HINDU cause as people think
 
लोग बहुत जल्दी किसी भी बात के अर्थ / मतलब तक पहुँच जाते बिना उसके पीछे का मकसद जाने | आडवानी जैसे नेता कभी कभार ही ऐसा कुछ बोलते है जो उन्हें नहीं बोलना चाहिए था | मोदी बनाम शिवराज सिंह का जो मुद्दा पिछले कुछ समय से राजनैतिक हलकों में चर्चा का विषय है वो अनायास ही नहीं है | भाजपा / आडवानी की बड़ी सोची समझी रणनीति का हिस्सा है | जनता और बुद्धिजीवियों का मूड भापने के लिये मीडिया में तमाम तरह की बाते / वक्तव्य नेताओ द्वारा दिए जाते है | ये मुद्दा भी यही जांचने के लिये उठाया गया है कि जनता, मीडिया और बुद्धिजीवी वर्ग क्या प्रतिक्रिया देता है | कुछ लोग आडवाणी को भाजपा का दुश्मन बनाने पर तुले है वो शायद भूल गए है कि आडवाणी उन कुछ लोगो में से एक है जिन्होंने इस पार्टी को जमीन से उठाकर दिल्ली की गद्दी तक पहुँचाया | भाजपा अभी भी उस नेता की तलाश में है जो सर्वमान्य हो, जिसे सभी मित्र पार्टिया स्वीकार करे, दूसरे देशो के बीच भी रिश्तों को मजबूत कर सके, समाज के हर वर्ग को उसमे अपना प्रतिनिधित्व नज़र आता हो और ये मुद्दा भी ये सब परखने के लिये ही उठाया गया है |

मोदी और शिवराज की तुलना अलग अलग मापदंडो पर करने पर मुझे लगता है शिवराज सिंह ज्यादा बेहतर व्यक्ति है |
 
एक और बात जो लोग भूल रहे है वो ये की अडवानी मैं प्रधान मंत्री बन्ने की लालसा भले ही हो पर वो कभी भी पार्टी से ऊपर नहीं रही और इसी वजह से उन्होंने १९९९ मैं वाजपेयी के लिए कोई रुकावट नहीं कड़ी करी प्रधान मंत्री बन्ने मैं . जो लोग आज आडवानी के नाम को गाली बनाने पर तुले है वो पार्टी के लिए नहीं व्यक्ति विशेष की अंध भक्ति मैं लीन है और इससे पार्टी को करडा नुक्सान पहुंचा रहे है

एक और महत्वपूर्ण बात, आज कल मोदी के अंध भक्त स्वामी के बड़े गुणगान गा रहे है जिससे बड़ा दोगुला शायद ही कोई हो ... जब सर्कार खुदरा बाज़ार मैं विदेशी निवेश नहीं ल रही थी तो ये ही स्वामी लेख लिख लिख कर सर्कार की आलोचना कर रहा था और जब सर्कार ले कर आई तो उस विधेयक की. मज्जे की बात ये है जो भाजपा इसका साथ दे रही है इसने उसी के सबसे बेहतरीन प्रधान मंत्री अटल बिहारी को अंग्रेजो का दल्ला करार दिया था १९९९ मैं ...
