Yoginder please post the info here as i might visit Canada in near future, have been on my mind for last 5-6 months:)

Sunita,

The Association is made up of approx. 50 families and majority of them belongs to Haryana(including Delhi), U.P. and a few from Rajasthan. The Association is called as Canadian Jats Association which is a registered organization(Regd. in 2007). We do not have any registered office space and hence just work from home. This organization was created just to help each other, organize get-together of families so that we know each other and help the new comers to Canada. However, I can provide the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the executive committee members who can be reached for assistance.

Yoginder Gulia : 416-557-4137 guliayoginder@hotmail.com
Sujeet Lohan : 674-284-9450 sujeetlohan04@yahoo.com

I will make a request that whenever you call these members, please keep in mind the time difference which is approx. 10hrs behind Indian Time.

If you ask me anything specific then send me an e-mail, I will respond within 24hrs.
Thanks.

Yoginder, just one more query....what kind of help one can seek(non-monetary) and to what extent? What if someone is completely new to the place. in that case what type of help is extended by this Jat Association? Thanks for posting the information:)

It is hard to say unless one explains it. I will try my best to answer your question.
It can be in the form of feedback about real picture of employment in different sectors, requirements for professions governed by professional bodies and if possible provide references and lead for employment. This organization is still a baby organization and majority of its members are new in Canada(less then 10 years). If you have any specific question then either you send me a PM or e-mail. You will be surprise to know that there is one Association of people(All commuinities) belonging to Sonipat and I am a member of that association too. Most of these associations are for social gatherings and keep are culture alive.

Good gesture bhai saab

It will be nice of you if you can spare some time and answer them point wise.

Few of my knowns have applied for immigration ... answers to the following will help them and other members too:

1) People apply for immigration visa of Canada and say they get it in the meantime.
They reach there .... as it may take some time to get a job ... till then how should one accomodate himself? kit dattey ... kitna ek jugad karke aave ... kitne ek dina mein gujare layak job mil sake hai ... etc etc ...

2) What are the jobs in demand there .... as it is mentioned that finding yours field job is difficult ... so is it better to go for some other odd jobs first and in the mean time try for their field job? Also would it help a person to have certificate of some demand job from India itself? What is the scene of jobs in recession period now? Have heard that B.Ed degree holders have much demand after some short duration canadian course? Also the agencies like wwics have some packages in which they will provide yours field job too ... aisa to nahi ke inke contacts hon companies se aur thode time ke baad nikal dein ... so what do you say about these packages?

3) Heard that they prefer their own degree or education holders ... A person from India will be having indian degrees ... so should he go for some courses in his field there ... may be short duration to seek jobs

4) Some areas of canada are under snow for most of the year ... so which cities are good for immigrants ... work wise, crime rate, education, Indian community etc.

5) Overall how is the life there ... as in UK its much cool ... in USA it is said to be fast ... ek batave tha ke bhai mian-biwi weekend pe milya karan na to fursat ee na raheti ... is this the scene allover? Why? Salary kum aur kharchey jyada hone se hai aisa ... ya job hours jyada hein?

6) Overall what do you feel if a person is having around 50k/month earning in India ... will it be good for him to immigrate? As people around give different thoughts like yahan aacha gujara hai to kya jarurat hai jane ki ... wahan kuch na hoya to ... also its a fact that its hard to leave the comfort zone and move towards uncertainity (though its a person's own decision and that also differs but you people on the other side can put a clear picture so that the person can decide)

7) Canada immigrate hone wale kya US jake job kar sakte hein? Suppose someone have applied for immigration and he has been granted Visa ... now he only wants to retain his status valid there ... for this what is the period for which he should stay there .... like 2 continuous years in first 5 years ... or 3 years in chunks etc.? This is for a person who is willing to be in india only after 4-5 years but wish to retain the immigrant status for his kids etc. Perhaps Immigrants are not citizens there, to get that status what are the requirements?

Will they have to leave indian passport in that case?

8) Kae saal ke baad log kya mehsoos karte hein ... whether they are happy there in canada ... or it would be better if they would not have migrated? Cut-Off, bachon ke bade hone par culture issues dimag mein, rahen-sehan samajh mein na aata, nostalgic etc etc ... are these issues or just a mind blockage kind of thing?

Some of your answers can be found on this site;
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/menu-commcan.asp

Rest arrangement can be made in advance by friends and relatives.

2) What are the jobs in demand there :

Teaching, Accountancy, Law, Nursing, Engineers in Oil drilling, IT(but right now situation is bad) etc.

3) Heard that they prefer their own degree or education holders ... A person from India will be having indian degrees ... so should he go for some courses in his field there ... may be short duration to seek jobs

There is demand for teachers in school and colleges. Degrees are recognized but in some cases(Regulated professions) one has to go through short bridge courses or pass exam.
Teaching is a regulated profession in Canada.

4) Some areas of canada are under snow for most of the year ... so which cities are good for immigrants ... work wise, crime rate, education, Indian community etc.

Crime rate is low through out Canada. Big cities are Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Edmonton, Montreal, Calgary. You will find south Asians in every part of Canada but the concentration is around big cities.

Life is similar to US except the following: Taxes are higher in Canada and cost of living too, medical facilities are free.
Some people are in the race of making money and hence they work all 7 days a week. New comers do not have a choice for a couple of years because they struggle to settle here and hence they take it whatever comes in the way. Once you are settled then life is smooth and better than India.

6) Overall what do you feel if a person is having around 50k/month earning in India ... will it be good for him to immigrate? If one is earning Rs. 50k/month at prime age(30-35years) and house is paid off(I mean no costs towards renting or paying loans) then India is better. Minimum wage rate in Ontario province (Canada) is right now CA$9.75/hour. A family of four (two adults and two kids) persons making less than $40000 a year is considered poor i.e. below poverty line. In an average office job, one can get around CA$ 50000/yr.

7) Canada immigrate hone wale kya US jake job kar sakte hein? Under the NAFTA agreement, a work visa is required to work in USA. Residency requirements are to be met all time as long as you are permanent resident i.e. a total of 2years (730 days) in any continuous period of 5 years. If you have stayed in Canada for 1095 days in a continuous period of 4 years then you can apply for citizenship and once citizenship is granted then there are no residency requirements.

It depends from person to person. As far as I am concerned, I am happy and do not have any regrets or complaints.

I have tried my best to answers your concerns, if any thing is left out then please do not hesitate to point it out.
Thanks.
