Isn't it suprising to find corruption in india going down!! ya just came across this link
http://in.rediff.com/money/2005/oct/18india.htm

and it says corruption has gone down though marginally .. so in the land of babus .. whr people asking for chai-pani in order to do the task for which our government pays thm isn't it a sort of achievemnet?? ..

i hope soon this would go ..

To all members .. here is the question ... have you in your life either knowingly and unknowingly contributed to this? come forward and share it ..

I guess this is a tricky one and no one would like to share his/her acts if any ...

about me I confess i did contributed once ... only once tht also to get my domecile certificat arnd 8 yrs back as i had applied for it but lost the receipt and had no other proof to show i am that person ... tht was first and last time i did tht ..

Many Times...

There is no need to feel ashamed in admitting that one has had to pay to get things done. I have done it so many times that I can't even recall all the incidents. But let me recall some of the famous ones.

1. Whenever I came on leave from the far flung corners of the country, there was no question of reservation in trains. The TTE always had to be bribed, if not in cash then a RUM Bottle would do.
2. Whenever I went to a government office to get anything done that concerned 'Revenue Records' etc, nothing moved without paying bribe.
3. Ghar ki registry jab karvayi.
4. Ek bar to Delhi mein bhi bribe di bahi. Ar Delhi ke 'Babalog' to itne pake huye hain ak saale bethan ne bhi nahin kahte.

And all the above is not considered bribe by the takers. They think they did a favour to me. In Haryana Sectt Chandigarh thay say "Bhai, file ke jab taheen pahiye (wheels) nahin lagen ge, ya na sarke".

And now please don't give me a lecture as to why didn't I report the matter to the 'Authorities'. Even the 'Authorities' take bribe to register your case.

Kya karen? Kis ko kahen? Kahan Jayen?

Corruption is the way of life

It has become a part and parcel of the society and we have to live with it.There is no accurate "PAIMANA" with which we can measure it.I have my own reasons for not taking this report on face value. Corruption existed since ages and will stay around.Jab tak RAT RACE hai. corruption bhi hai.

Rightly brought out!!!

jagmohan sir,
You have rightly brought out the facts about the RUM BOTTLE bargain in liew of berth which almost every Fauji has encountered numerous times during their careers. It is More commonly termed as BLACK DOLLOR by The TT of the indian railways if i am not wrong and trust me it has never failed in achieving the desired results.
Actually This problem of corruption has crossed all barriers in my opinion in recent past.It is not that it never existed in older times but the peaple effected by it used to be less as comparred to nowadays. The most horrifiying picture of corruption is the feilds where we generally dont talk about.I know most of u will not agree with but the fact will remain fact. The MNCs and the bigger indian companies are more corrupt then the govt. babus. All The recruitments in MNC's the Hr professional sitting there take heavy bribes from the job consultants.Same apply with the other departments of the company the level of corruption i saw in these private is nothing as compared to the government babus.
In govt. departments after paying the bribe ur are sure ur job will be done but in these organisations u pay and still no gaurantee of the work...
I think this bribe giving and taking has engulfed us so badly that it is taken as a right and given as a duty.Regarding the complaints about the the bribe seeker, in my view and in the view of law both are equally guilty of the crime.here bothe seeker and giver both are happy with the arrangement so who will complaint?"Mian bibi Rajhi To kya Karega kazi".

Bribe is like a custom in offices.
It exists for a long time but the intensity is always growing. Its nice to hear that corruption has gone down in India although its minimal.

I am always against this all and as far as my knowledge I never gave bribe to anybody in my conscious.
I remember an incident in 1995 when I got admission in the diploma course and we were asked to submit a bonafied letter atteted by the SDM.Me and my friends went there and did all the formalities an submitted the document in SDM's office. The babu there said that you have to do some chai-pani otherwise it wiil take long time b'coz SDM is busy.
So we all three friends decided to give him Rs.300 but we noted the serial numbers of all three 100 rupee notes and gave to him.within 15 minutes SDM called us and that was done.the Babu told that he will enter this in register and give to us.we got our documents and after getting theat we told the babu that we are going to complaint about him to the SDM,The SDM on that time was very nice and honest.babu said that you dont have any proof then we said yes we have proof.
The babu was so frightened that he gave back the money and requested to not to tell anyone.
Aur us din usne kasam khai ki wo kabhi rishwat nahi lega.Mujhe nahi lagta ki usne nahi li hogi lekin us samay uska moonh dekhne layak tha.
This is the only time when I got this like situation.
Whenever I go to any office for any work i get myself well prepared and get my work done without any bribe.
Although I didn't have so much work in govt. offices.

Corruption… kuch suna suna sa name lag reha hai…
Yes it is the biggest problem of our country which is deeply rotted. I think it is too much difficult to find out the main cause of this problem as every one and every section of society as well as administration from top to down is bitterly involved in this evil. It is continuously spreading in many ways.
Earlier I understand that this problem can be rooted out if we want, but when I came to know the reality then I realize that it is really difficult as one is not aware about the root cause. But now days it can be felt that people are getting bored from this problem. This is why we can hope one day our India will become CLEAN COUNTRY (corruption less).
My one friend always says that there is only solution of this problem “ Jo bi officer ya babu bribe mange uski achi si kutai kar do.. wo zindagi maie bribe nahi mangega… “

I have one experience which I would like to share with you. To construct a public water storage tank in our village we need a NOC(Non-Objection-Certificate) from BDO (Block development officer).. but when we visited him than he asked us Rs. 2000/- for sanction the NOC. We requested him a lot but he refused us to sanction NOC. Then my one friend got provoked and gave an intensive slap on his face. He could not maintain his balance and fallen down from the chair after it we all gave him a good treatment (many lat gusse..). After that he asked for excuse and agreed to sanction the NOC without any extra charge..
I can not forget that day in my life. From that my all friends believe that this is the finest solution of this problem. But it is true that this is not the democratic solution as it is also a crime.

I can't believe corruption in India has gone down !!! Isn't it possible that others have gone a few steps ahead of us. I think we are losing the race even here !!!

Down?????? Oh, maybe, on the papers!!

That is the point I raised in one of the threads!! They even show some kind of 'ehsaan' on us - as if they have sincerely obeyed their 'duties'

One can't do without this in Dilli - leave alone the rest of India!! This system is more than 99% successful in the capital city. If one don't pay - his/her file/documents will be 'misplaced'. To get our files on 'top' - we need to 'meet' the babus in the toilets :D

Although - on 2-3 occasions - I tried to confront these misadventures, but, I was either stopped by my family members or others (whom I consulted:) ).

Ek-na-ek din kisi ko jaroor pakadwaaungaa :)

No solutions for this in the near future!!!!!!!!

Lage raho India!!

Corruption, is a significant hurdle in development of an economy. It makes the resource and facilities distribution elitist. Reduces the competition. Supports the incumbents.

Fortunately, we have the Right to Infromation Act enacted this year on June 15th, and it was scheduled to be in full operation from 12th October.

It canbe read at, http://persmin.nic.in/RTI/WelcomeRTI.htm it is aptly called
the sunshine law, but it heavily epends on peoples participation.

I am sure it will help us climb the rungs of the transparecy indices.

Enjoy

I Believe Things Are Improving!

In recent times many big names have been exposed and so many senior bureaurocats have been booked and punished. Media is playing some positive role in exposing curruption. I have seen some sting operations on Star TV.

Overall i can feel a change in the atmosphere and believe that in coming years there will be further decline in curruption.

Recently, Manoj Raghuvanshi (a well known TV journalist) opened a Media Academy "Pratyaksh".

One of the courses offered will be - Investigative TV Journalism with focus on conducting Sting Operations with a hidden (spy) camera.

We could see more of these academies in future - as this is an upcoming trend and competition between TV Channels as well!

I also have a 'feel good factor' on the subject-matter:).
