Does education through open is worth?

I have seen many housewives using open/distance education to get degrees as they are unable to attend classes throughout the year.

This is good that women are coming up to acquire higher education through correspondence courses/distance education. We must try to encourage and motivate those persons also who could not complete their regular school/college education due to one or the other reason. IGNOU and so many other institutions have opened doors for such aspirants to improve their educational profile.

Many people complete their higher10th,12th or graduation through open exams.
Is it worth to have such Education in real sense?
Or it is just a way to be eligible for certain jobs which consider "Open Education".
Aren't we lowering education standards by doing this ?

Note : Please don't mix open and correspondence education. Discussion is on OPEN education.

There is no need to fear that Open Education would lower standard of education in any way.

Further kindly clarify the dividing line between Open and Correspondence Education.
