As you know that canadian dollar is values little bit more thn the us dollar..i just wanna ask you a simple question(especially to the JATLANDERS living in north america)......THE CARS Of SAME COMPANY COST REALTIVELY HIGH IN CANADA HERE ARE FEW EXAMPLES

MAKE -2008 911 Carrera
2008 Canadian MSRP: 93,200
Current U.S. MSRP: 73,500
Nissan: base model 350Z $28,525 US... Same car $51,148 in canada 44%more
Nissan: RX-8 $27,030 US vs $38,520 cdn... 30% more in Canada...
and there are many more
so why not a canadian just go and buy a car from america rather thn buy the same car from canada which cost him very high there.........

so we can see that almost all the companies are doing this...why????????

reason

i think bigger market .. volume of business much more over here ... much better economy so people have more spending power....

i may be wrong as I am very new over here ...

regarding ur currency rates these r cyclic things if u r in financial world ...

US is boss and remains the boss .. they dont imitate world but world imitates them

US has fight with Euro and GBP and not with any other ...

i may be wrong ur CAD is mainly effected by oil prices if oil prices remains high then CAD remains high .. i think no other thing effects CAD more .. now u can better understand more .. one year i have stopped following world closely things might have changed .. so better correct if i am wrong

your answer is good in general sense as america is boss..but its not so relevent to the car prices bhaisaab....why they cost so cheap in america and just across the border they cost so much even though the currency values are almost same.....take the case of europe the car prices are almost same allover the mainland europe but they cost little more in uk...i understand that as pound is a heavyweight fighter against euro rite now..but in case of canada and america they are almost same....why is that difference bhaisaab...thats my question..if you know please let me know or try to ask someone as you are over there..thanks

There are many factors for this price difference:
1) Canada is highly taxed country
2) Market is small, company and retailer both keeps high margins of profit
3) Cost of production is high because there are too much labour restrictions and obligations on employer

Most of things are 25-30% more expensive in Canada.
The answer for 2nd question why not buy accross the border. Yes, you can buy it but you will have to pay 50% as customs tax.

It's because Canada imposes higher taxes and tariffs on cars. The government adds 21% VAT Tax and then up to 30% VRT Tax on top of that.

Remember in Canada they have free health care and they have to fund it through taxes whereas in US you pay arm and a leg for health care services and prescription medication.

Another reason is that some of the foreign car manufacturers have to compete with the domestic brands like Ford, GM etc which are cheaper in price. So they have to price the Japanese and German models cheaper as well.
