Egoism in Elite Jats

I am regretted to say but it is true that most of the Jats who have reached to some high position do not show any sensitiveness to their community, which is quite contrary to other castes. This trait is particularly more dominant among those who have reached the position without making much effort due to dynastical reasons.
Even if a begger, who is a Brahmin by caste, goes to a Brahmin Officer or Neta, for some grievances. The Brahmin Officer gives him due respect, ask for cold drinks and eatables and rebukes the subordinates to solve his grievances even if there is no fault of of these subordinates. Further, Brahmin officer makes all out effort to help the Brahmin by both the justified as well as unjustified ways. Sames thing follows with the people of other castes.
However, contrary to it, when one Jat goes to a Jat officer with a genuine grievance, he shown no warmth and treats it like other ordinaries. Even when the applicant gives the reference of some of his known, still the Jat officer make ugly face and deny knowing any such person. Even the genuine grievances, in which the officer has the legimitate duty to take step remains unattended. Jats when become officer or at other higher place tend to forget the worth of rural farmers, farms and Buffalos.
I have seen such Jat officer, who feels pleasure in serving the Brahmins, Baniyas, SC/ST’s, when they are his superior and even help idiots of these castes, if the recommendation arrives, but never help a poor& needy JAT.
We must boycott all such people who forget their community.

Truly said

Yes,I agree to your words. This is a big problem that we often complain about but never think of solving it.Other castes are rising like anything because they support each other, specially when it comes to relations. We should understand this that we can't rise in isolation ie. without making our community rise .If our brothers and sisters are not growing,we will be laid back by it.For this,we have to stand against other castes and support our caste like helping them in getting jobs, helping them with our knowledge and experience, giving monetory help if possible like to our relatives and friends at least. We have to be proactive to extending help in any way possbl, and not bothering much about other castes. This may sound bit negative but it can help us rise like others.

I fully agree with the post initiator & other contributors, why to go to gujarati, you see yadav. This is a great weakness among jats. Even subordinates when serve under a jat boss, they make sure that the jat boss is let down at evry step, they talk ill, do nothing & fight more. Thus the understanding about the usefullness of unity is not with majority of jats, Examples can be seen of both sides even at this forum. I always pray to god that jats be given little brain to understand the importance of unity. A very happy new year & regards

I agree, Good thing about them is they are brave, but i don't know why they are always ready to fight! war has no end this they should understand!

Respect is commanded, not demanded. If the Jat Boss does not show any affinity or affection towards his Jat subordinates and would keep them at arms' length, the subordinates have no other option but to show their contempt and ill-will towards such a snobbish officer. Majority of the senior defence personnel, technocrats, civil servants (IAS/IPS/IFS/IRS etc.) have scant regard/affection/concern for the community fellows living in villages in abject poverty. There are very few whose hearts beat for the community. Some of them who want to pursue their carrier in politics after retirement pretend to show some feelings of brotherhood because they are in dire need of votes. Their Mem Sahabs and children do not even try to have any connection with villages as it is below their status. Even a Jat Subedar/Thanedar expects the villagers to bow to him when he visits his village chaupal , not to speak of the Colonel, Brigadier or IAS/IPS etc. There is a famous saying do unto others as you wish to be done by.

I am the best is the theory behind this strategy. We Jats try to rise and achieve some new heights in each and every sphere of society and professionalism. We fit ourselves into the demands of circumstances and adjust that beautifully. But whenever we see someone from our community doing the same in our backyard we just take it as a threat to our position and try to eliminate the latest competitor as soon as possible. So, instead of helping the community fellow we start creating problems. That's certainly a hostile attitude. If we want to register some substantial growth attached to our community we need to change this attitude.

Co-operation is the only key.

As mentioned above I am fully agree. Jab tak Jat kisi naukri mein ya koi bada leader hota hai kabhi bhi community ki help nahi karta.kyoki uski mansikta yahi hoti hai ke agar kamjor bhi majboot ho gaya to tuje ram ram honi band ho jagi.Naukri ki time khoob corruption karenge par jaise hi retire honge unsey bada community ka sewak koi nahi hota. wahi log fir system ko gali dete hai jabki sari jindagi usi system ki band bajatey hai. Unko chahiye retire honey ke baad apney kali kamai ka kuch hissa community ke utthan ke liye lagaye jaise school, rojgar etc. Agar hamri community ke established logon ka 10 % paisa in kamo mein lag jaye to sari samasyaee door hai. Par aisa hoga nahi kyoki community ko kamjor karney wale bhi yahi log hai.

Yes, But....

Dear All,

I am confused by some of the comments and observations. I can recollect hundreds of examples from my own life and can very frankly admit that I can’t totally agree or disagree with the question whether Elite JATS treat other fellow JATS well or not (I don’t know whether a real JAT can ever be elitist though!). I have seen a serving Cabinet Minister of Haryana wash his clothes in my house. He had then come to meet my uncle who was his class fellow. And how can I forget seeing a relative Police Constable behave as though he is DGP of Haryana Police. Therefore, the subject is complex and issues too many. It can't be answered by just saying YES or NO.

While serving in the Army an officer must be fair and impartial when it comes to matters military. Most officers follow that principal in letter and spirit. I would request members to do a little research and find out as to how many JAT Officers who served in JAT Regiment went on to become Generals in the Army? Very few! I can count over 100 Sikhs who served in the SIKH Regiment and retired as Generals. The statistics are indicative of the fact that JAT officers while serving with fellow JATS don’t make the kind of progress SIKHS make.

A common saying in my part of the country is “Hoga susraa DC apne ghar main”. We don’t realize that a DC, even though is a public servant, is a very senior ranking government officer. Therefore, I must treat my relative (who is a DC) in his office with the same respect as applicable. At this very moment, there are hundreds of needy JATS headed to Chandigarh to get their work done from a fellow JAT. I can bet that 90% of them are going without an appointment. And when most of them would return back to their houses in the evening, drunk if I may add, then they will abuse that officer who did not meet them or could not meet them. Our major behavioral deficiency is not treating the other person as per the situation and occasion. A true JAT is one who behaves as a total professional and yet helps out others so discreetly that the other person does not even know it.

Gone are those days when one could be seen openly to be pro this or that caste. As it is everyone is against us. Let us at least give some respect to those amongst us who have risen to whatever position by sheer grit and determination in a highly competitive world. There is no denying the fact that those who have thus risen must also earn the respect of their less fortunate brethren by being humble and humane.

Best regards,

JS Malik

Ego, as such, is good for us. As Vijay said above, it says "I am the best" (every individual is best in his/her own way), it gives pride and self-respect, it gives power to fight against any injustice and it gives us the driving force to break briers and set new records.

The problem comes when this "ego" is used by envy and jealousy. Envy and jealousy take leverage of the ego and aggression to meet their goals and thus leads us to non-cooperation.

Envy and jealousy is there in every human being, however, in Jats and other marshal communities these are reflected more because they become more stronger by leveraging upon high aggression and ego which is present genetically in these communities.

The solution does not lie in removing envy and jealousy. It rather lies in encouraging other positive properties like acceptance, forgiveness and calmness which subdues/inhibits the effects of envy and jealousy.

This requires taking control of one's mind and programming/re-programming it as required.

While all this is easy to preach, it is very difficult (and initially painful) in practicality. It would even seem impossible to take control of the mind; the key here is to leverage upon the aggression and ego. Tell your ego "This is what is required for you today to march ahead", "This is what is required for my children to be successful" and it will give you the power to succeed.

Note: I am neither a guru of this philosophy nor a psychologist. I have brought to you what I have learned from some corporate trainings, psychologists and researching on the internet.

Ego is something distinct from self-esteem. A person can remain free from the virus of egotism while keeping one's self-respect intact. Unfortunately, majority of Jats who are able to achieve something in diverse fields are bound to be egotist. I have seen a Bengali officer talking to his Bengali subordinate in Bengali, A high ranking Tamilian talking to his PA in Tamil etc. etc. but hardly seen any high ranking Jat officer talking to some Haryanvi subordinate in his own dialect. So, what is wrong if a subordinate also dumps the so-called 'high-fi's. One must retaliate.

Self-esteem is part of ego and "a person" can not exist without ego. Just like a biological process makes a human body, the ego makes this human body "a person". A human without ego has no identity, akin to "soul".

There are many perceived meanings of ego, some of them are listed here: http://www.livereal.com/psychology_arena/what_is_ego.htm (A to I is what I mean by ego).

Going though the following links (in order) would give you some understanding of ego:
1. http://www.livereal.com/psychology_arena/what_is_ego.htm (Same as above)
2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ego_psychology#Ego_functions (You can skip history and go directly to Ego Functions)
3. http://psychology.about.com/od/eindex/g/def_ego.htm
4. http://www.forumforhinduawakening.org/articles/id/living/sadhaana/ego-removal (spiritual and psychological definitions)

We should also understand here that Bengali and Tamil are languages while Haryanvi is a dialect. Tamil literature is even more stronger then Hindi. और फिर भाई हरयाणवी बोलं तो कुंसी बोलं, रोहतक आली, भ्यानी आली, जींद आली या फिर सोनीपत आली? Do you see the difference now?

Yeah, this ones comes from our ego. People do this because a corrupt politician (not leader, see how your own perception has brought out the word Neta) is perceived as of high social status then the respectable person of the society. That is, in our mind, power and many is more important then social respect.

This perception is mainly the creation of media. Media is constantly being used to change our perception and thus ego. Haven't you seen the non-sense, anti-Jat articles in media few months back? What were they targeted at? It was not that the people writing them did not have the knowledge and sense, it was rather a well planned program to lower the status of Jats in general public eyes and lower our own (Jats') self-respect, all for power (CM's post) and money (farmer's land).

Hahahaha.....I very well understand the difference between a language and a dialect. I also know that Haryanvi is not a language, that is why I referred to it as a dialect in my earlier post. But don't we converse in our dialect with Haryanvi fellows, notwithstanding the fact that it varies from place to place after every 20-30 miles. All the Haryanvi's very well understand each other while speaking in their respective dialects because there are minor variations. While at home or in our interaction with the village people do we always speak grammatically correct language viz. Hindi or English?. So let us not assume that a Jat Colonel, SSP or DC has some difficulty in understanding any dialect of his native State.

PS: Personally, I can speak and understand most of the Haryanvi dialects including Bhiwani wali, Sonepat wali, Jind wali or Rohtak wali. I always try to speak in pure Haryanvi during my conversation with a Jat fellow unless I am compelled by him/her to speak chaste Hindi, English, French or some other language.

Just the way Alsatians are bred into attacking strangers, Jats are bred into attacking each other within the community.

Many Jat suffer from low self esteem. That’s why when they become something they behave 'bossy'. They try to show their power, their authority. Even a person on street will show this toothless power by being rude or you can see people show this power by being abusive. The reason is very simple. When you suffer from low self esteem you try to show that 'you are something'. In reality, these people are coward, suffer from inferiority. I call them pussy cat.

The thing you are talking about is not egoism. I think it is side effect of this 'low-esteem' feeling. One of the big Reason is our language is not considered a language. We were told it’s a dialect. We were even told not to speak it in front of civilised people. Our culture is also being mocked. Due to this some people suffer from low self esteem and become like one you are talking about.

Many say they are proud of being Jat or whatever but when they are in front of other community they feel ashamed of it. Otherwise in my far relation there is an(now Retd.) IAS lady (imagine a Jat lady being IAS). She was so simple when she was not on duty. She had pallu on head always, used to touch feet of elders and sit on the ground. There is other relative who is on the highest administrative post in a town in Hisar. When ever I go and visit him he call me in kitchen and we talk there. He make chutney in 'kundi and we both eat in kundi sitting on the floor. That’s what I do at home. He wife says if other see you like this they would make fun of you but he say "Sala bhaj ke mere sage aur jutega" . So its up to you how you take it. Take pride or feel low about your past, your culture and this will reflect in your actions.

One thing is because our language is being made fun of. People say this is a dialect. Now what's the difference between a dialect and a language. I don’t see any. Apart from the fact that for these so called language you got written scripts and literature and you have accepted a common dictionary, a common usage of words. Where as for Haryanvi, we haven't because we were made to believe that its not a language so don’t bother. Even Panjabi differ so much from east to west and north to south that they don’t even understand each other. But they do have an accepted standard form of Panjabi. We were told Haryanvi is just an off shoot of Hindi, If that’s the case then why we call it Haryanvi. I have even seen some kids are ashamed of when their parents speak haryanvi in front of their friends and I have also seen that the parents told kids " ya gaam bhasa chod de shaher ki bola kar" means leave this Haryanvi and start speaking hindi.

This language is just one of such things. One day a Rajput told me (he didn’t know I was Jat by that time) " Ye sale Jat bus dhood peeye jave he har malayi khaye jave he". I asked him whats wrong with it. This is infact very good thing and thats why they are healthy. I mean its upto you how to take it. As far as language is considered I say we should ask Haryana Govt to accept Haryanvi as a language and then work toward a standard, widely accpeted form of Haryanvi. If this can happen then Haryanvi people can get rid of this low self esteem to a greater extent. Nothing can be more shameful then a situation where you start feeling ashamed of your own mother tongue.

Getting your pride back would for sure bring you closer.

Note: Here I was only talking about the people who behave in such manner. Otherwise I have seen many proud Jats and am a proud friend and relative of many of them.

Very valid point. Before getting the status of a language all the present languages in their raw form used to be dialects only. It is a manifestation of weakness of Haryanvis that their dialect could not acquire the status of a language so far. Little variations hardly matter and a common language could have been invented had the politicians shown some sincerity. Better late than never and this can be done even now if we want to preserve our linguistic heritage instead of feeling ashamed of it. It is not that languages like Gujrati, Punjabi or any other vernaculars have a richer history than our proud Haryanvi. So guys, khoob Haryanvi thokkya karo sab ke saamne.

Once I was in conversation with a similar couple who didnt allow their ward to speak haryanvi. The lady asked me "What he will get out of Haryanavi?".

So could you please put some benefits looking at todays world of speaking haryanvi?
