Even after 47 years, how prepared we are to face China??

Lately there have been lots of articles in news papers about India sending extra troops to China border and improving road and airports network in the region. I wonder how well prepared we are to face China if war breaks. Let us begin with a article which appeared in Time magazine in 1962 just after the war;

As can be seen, our leadership at the top failed very badly and it was the public anger and support which partly pushed Chinese back. Chinese know it very well that technologically they are superior but during any war all Indians will unite like never before. Let us not forget that China is our adversary and will remain so for 100s of years. Instead of Pakistan, we should focus on China. Neglecting China will be suicidal for India. May be our members from defence background can update us on the issue.

Preparation

Yes, u r right.india is still not prepared to fight with china.even china is enemy no.1 for india.

but i think that now india have a friendly relations with china.....

You need to read the history of Indo-Chinese relations. Questions you are asking are very basic. Before Indo-China war of 1962 there was Hindi-Chini bhai bhai slogan. Nehru defended China on every possible international platform. Still China attacked. Chinese oppose India anywhere and everywhere.

its an open secret Daac Saab that it was India who attacked China after the hindi chini bhai bhai, stupid General of Nehru had no idea what they were getting into......Times of India did publish those documents few years back

There is no way you can prepare against China, its too powerful, prepare kare te baat bane to pher to poore world ne le lyo bol ke....... the only thing that we might do is to just keep the relations congenial. In my opinion no country today has the preparedness to fight China not even US

I agree with Amit bhai. China has 'secretly' (ya) evolved into a mighty force. They always had the numbers but now they have the technology as well. Long gone are the days when a small country like Japan could invade and capture prominent Chinese cities. In today's scenario, I don't think even US Russia combined together could force themselves on the Chinese. Unfortunately, these Chinnis are very irregular n unpredictable and can kick anyone's ass out-of-the-blue. Why don't they do so? Well, in my opinion........ they want to further evolve....... with a pace far much greater than other developing and developed countries. Stretching the lead, huh!

sir, let's be very honest about this. Are we (if attacked) in a position to defend ourselves and rebuff the pocket-sized Taliban alone?
Fine. However, more important is if attacked by Chinese, are we in a position to defend ourselves and repulse them?

I am not so sure about the first. The area under contention- Aksai Chin was a disputed territory. The area has a history of claims and counterclaims by Kashmir and then Britishers vs. the Chinese. It is practically uninhabited, so no side has a very strong case per se. Chinese want it as it links Xinjiang with Tibet. The escalation was by the Chinese in 1950s, when they built a road in the area. They had much easier access to it, while Indians had to go through the Karakoram. Indians found it out later and then started a "Forward policy", which was to send patrols and set up posts in that area. Chinese felt that it was not only Aksai Chin, but that Indians had grand designs over Tibet as well. And then some skirmishes led to the war. But sending patrols in a disputed area that you believe belongs to you is not same as invading the country.

As for preparedness, one always has to be prepared. I feel much of China's power is a hype. Not saying that they are weak or anything. Just that they are not as powerful as they are made out to be. US may not be prepared to fight with China. But China would be even less prepared to fight with the US. Chinese have a large army but they can't fight with that army with the US. For that they need Navy, which is almot non-existent as compared to the US or the Air-Force, where again US is much stronger. As for India, yes, it is not in our benefit to take on China. On balance, they are probably stronger. But it is not in their interest as well. As it is by no means a done deal that they would walk over us in case of a war. Usually, the aggressor has to be much more powerful to actually invade a country and then hold it. I mean superpowers are finding it difficult to do in failed states like Iraq and Afghanistan. And if it comes to shooting missiles, then that capability is mutual, thus also acting as a deterrent. Rest it is upto the defence establishment to be ready with a strong defensive plan.

we shud get one "wall" constructed on our border facing china. if china can have wall why not india. build it.

even the great wall of china was erected to thwart off enemies....... but it wud need (us Indians) a few centuries to build one for ourselves.

थम दोनु उस BHEET ने नरेगा scheme के अंडर बनवा ल्यो ...... रोजगार भी मिलेगा लोग ने ,....waise it is good idea to have a waall constructed.

Bheet

Bheet is still an idea worth thinking about with Pakistan to deter infiltrators/smuggling. There is quite a bit of natural bheet with China in terms of Karakoram, Himalayas, etc. Plus, Chinese don't infiltrate India. Infiltration/smuggling happens a lot on India-Nepal border, which is much easier to infiltrate. Probably, one can think of this there if defence experts agree that it is going to help. China se ladaai hogi to air force, missiles, etc. ki zyada zaroorat hogi.

Off late, China too is dealing Islamic terrorism with in boundaries. There has been massive riots between Uiger Muslims of China and local Haan Community. Milatry has been called to pacify the situation after 15o or more people died in recent clashes. I am no wishy washy but here I would want to see a same terror virus derailing the so called mysterious power of the world. Chinese officials directly blamed the US. Sources and funding of recent riots were told to be recieved from US.

It would be utterly illogical to stand present Indian defence as well as strategy in the lines of 1960s. A lot of water has been passed since then both in terms of leadership and technology.

They can't be serious! Uighirs have always been a problem for Chinese. Infact anyone who is not Han Chinese, which includes Tibetans is not an equal citizen in China. Uighirs were a disaster waiting to happen. A couple of bombs had gone off just before olympics as well. For source, the Chinese would be better off looking over Aksai Chin, Karakorams, Pir Panjals into the hot bed of Islamic militancy, that is NWFP, Swat and Afghanistan. They would be better off stopping their "wink-wink" policy with respect to Pakistan and recognizing it as a global threat. Otherwise, they may face the same situation as the US, who created mujahideen to fight the Russians only for the Frankenstein's monster to turn on itself.

No doubt that China is a very strong country, they have secretly prepared themselves. But don't underestimate Indian defence also. War is not in favour of any country. If China attack on India, then it is not possible for them to carry on the war for long time. In number, their Army is more than India, almost double. but as far as , their Airforce and Navy is concerned, they are of almost same size to ours.

But Chinese are very clever. They are helping Pakistan in getting latest weapons and technology. They want India to engage itself with Pakistan. "China Pakistan ke kandhe par bandook rakhke hum par chalata hai". They have started to increase their influence in Nepal and Bhutan also. If a war starts between India and China, then Pakistan will also attack on India. Then there will be attack on India from both sides. As far as preparedness against China is concerned, India too is preparing itself. The BMD (Ballistic Missile Defence) system which India is using , is also very good one and BrahMos cruise missile is considered as one of the best medium range cruise missile in world, with a speed of 3 Mach, even US cruise missiles are of very lesser speed than this.

India should always carry on its preparation , not only against China, but to make itself a super power. An adage is there " Jiski lathi, uski bhains"

in todays scenario esp. with countries in possession with nuclear nukes... a war seems to be a distant cry.

indian or chinese capabilities can be debated, but it reminds me of an article tht i read in india today... guess 10-12 yrs back, wch stated tht china can turn india into stone age within few days, if a war btwn the two countries start. till today, i always try to defy my logic nd reasoning abt this possibility... but i have some very serious apprehensions on our preparedness nd the bureaucracy tht will/can pose 100 different hindrances, before we can even think of a reply action.

can anyone tell me or update me on india's preparedness to deal with any unforeseen natural calamity or disaster ? recent bombay seize by hand-full of terrorists is a classical example tht speaks volumes of our @#%$%$^%&%....
