Ever been Spanked by your parents

So the other day my bro who is in the states was speaking with this Amroo, and in a light vein he told him that it's all because of all the slaps he got from his folks that he is what he is . The Yankee was shocked, and then said in a low, sympathetic voice, "Yeah. I heard about child abuse being prevalent in those parts"

Bro had to ask his to chill out. Bro just couldn't explain to him how it is in India. People whack their kids a lot but somehow it's not the same as what they call 'ABUSE' out here in the US. Bro explained it to him, but he didn't seem convinced. Bro told him most of Indians get it from both mom and dad. He asked and ABCD, who was shocked as well.

So guys, how many of you have got whipped as kids? ChaaNta? Thappad etc? By Mom or dad or both? And if both, which one offered you the prasaad more?

You r absolutely right. In my office also.......... topics related to Indian culture come up during lunch hour more often than not. Most people in my office have not had much exposure to indian culture. Sometimes it becomes that much harder for me to educate my co-workers about India.

Some of my narrations about the level of competition and quality at institutions like IIMs and IITs were eyed with suspicion until CBS in its "60 minutes" program relayed a story on IIT.

Although my colleagues admire my disciplinarian style of parenting.......(Obviously I don't tell them everything)......but when I tell them the way I was spanked as a kid they would not buy even an iota of the story. Instead they start throwing some very funny sounding questions at me.

I wish they knew the difference between "child abuse" and spanking meted out to inculcate the kid with a sense of discipline.
