Hmmm, good to see overwhelming participation....

If you want to contribute to the agenda and participate in vital discussion over issues before the meeting, you may join the group where we have been talking about meeting for quite some time. You may benefit from our discussions and we also look forward to your inputs.

Hello everyone
Seems like things are falling inplace and this looks like more than we anticipated. Thanks for taking the co-ordination up. Not sure what my family commitments are on those dates (24th/25th) but will look forward to final meeting schedule.

Also, more participation from girls would be great.

Hi !!

Dear all,

I am new to this forum and would surely like to be involved in such activities. Please count me in and keep me posted on the latest developments !!

suggestions before meeting

Dear All
1. 25th is an ideal day for meeting since it is christmas and sunday. I suggest the event be a daytime event, it being winters.
2. I feel the village visit should be after the meeting so that we are better organised and planned. 26th Dec will be fine. Even if it is a school holiday(winter break) we can still get the students if we want. From administrative point of view, i think it will be better as a daytime visit since the place is not far. If a second village is to be visited, it could be a neighbouring village for sake of ease of visiting.
3. The issues in villages as I see them
a) Hygiene and sanitation - not that the villagers cannot handle it, only that they havent cared enough to. My Nanaji returned to the village few months back because the people called him to fight the sarpanch election(he left the city life and went to the village). Now that he is sarpanch, he wants to bring changes.
b) How to improve quality of education and promote english as a language because it is a basic rquirement for jobs with companies. Students do poorly in competitive exams because of problem with english. I have seen so many village students who when explained the question in hindi can immediately solve it but cannot solve the simplest questions in english.
c) Currently unemployed youth. Its a major issue. A large number approach me ,everytime i go there, to get them job.
d) Most young boys in the evenings can be seen sitting at corners/crossings doing aawaragardi while the girls help in household work. Can we promote some sporting activity in the village to engage these empty minds. Hockey, cricket or football. We could gift them some equipm ent to begin with. Over all also I feel sports should be promoted in our community. We could have inter village competitions in sports. Till now the only sport that is encouraged is wrestling and kabbaddi which doesnt take them anywhere.
e) other social issues (female foeticide, alchoholism) can be addressed only once we build a rappo with them else we will have to encounter a mindset - who are you to tell us all this?
A point - We should be a group of people who have come to meet them and help, not a group of people who have come to direct because that wont be acceptable to them. :-)
Priyanka Ji and Vinod Bhaai, the exact place hasnt been decided. Our aim is to find a place where we can accomodate a large number of people, have a small cultural group to perform, a group discussion for interested people. Also the place should be free of cost(possibly). I am trying to tie up with Ch chotu Ram Bhawan, Gurgaon/ surajmal institute, delhi. Will let you know as soon as it is fixed. If any one has any other place in mind, please put it forward.
Expenditure - As I see it now, the expense will be on food, snacks and some on organising(we will try to keep it min). For the village visit, we can travel by own conveyance or hire cabs. Thats about all.
Please put forward your suggestions.
Regards
Navin

Poonam Samsanwal adds
f) To assess their say regarding computer education especially to make them aware of the advantages of the technology, internet usage/e-mail for instance. Will give us heads up of their knack and interest of course.

Hey Navin,

Is this Poonam in the list is me or someone else. If you are talking about 'yours truly'..:) then I guess there is some misunderstanding. As mentioned before I'm not gonna be India at that time so not possible to attend the meet. Kindly update the list of attendees. Thanks.

Navin Ji,
I agreed WITH YOUR VIEWS but we should be focused with two only :
1. PRMOTION OF ENGLISH Language with quality education IN VILLAGES .
2. Promotion of sports in Villages.

Rest problem will automatically solved out need not to explain.

But it is not easy to start :
You need money as well as support form people (some dedicated people who can take responsibilities).

I have no doubt that jatland members can financial support the above however

I have a doubt that we members on Jatlanad site can spare more than 15 days for the above work.

for your information we have already started a initiative at Sonepat .. difference is it is a initative from a jat with the help of all communities and to serve all .here cast /community does not play any role

We have set up two hockey acadmey
First at Sonepat Industrail Area for girls .(Open for all)
Second at Kurad Village for Boys .(Open for all)

We had a plan to start similar facility at our village but there we failed to start in want of support .

I am unable to confirm at this moment whether I would be available but I have a great desire to meet all of you great personalities of Jatland..

Regards

Sanjay Siwach

Dear Navin Bhai,

I am some what of the same opinion as bhai Sanjay Siwach. Let us take up these two projects and impliment them as effectivey as possible in couple of villages.

Once we are acknowldged and accepted as well wishers by virtue of work, we can take up other more serious sensitive and challenging tasks.

Dec 25th is perfect day to have this event. It will greatly enhance the chances of more and more of us attending it. Navin bhai let the food (lunch) also be desi.

Inviting a senior citizen from the community involved in serious social work may pls. be considered. It is always good to have apne bade with rich experience at such occasions.

agreed

Dear Sanjay Sir and Gajesh Sir,
First of all sorry for the delayed response as I was out of station.
I agree to the points put forward by you.
I am also glad to inform you and other members that a good venue option has come up in the form of Lt Atul Kataria memorial school in Gurgaon. The school doesnt have many resources but is a good venue as it was built in the memory of Shahid Lt Atul Kataria Sena Medal, who sacrificed his life fighting militants in the Kashmir Valley. His parents who are running the school have agreed for us to hold the Dec 25th meeting there. Once we have met on 25th we will plan more for the Dec 27 visit to the school.
Bhai Shailendra Tokas has volunteered to gift a 'cricket set' to the village kids. If more people come forward to gift sports items like football/volleyball etc(I will also put in a few) we can have a small sports cell in the village, something that can be replicated in other villages.
The plan as it stands now-
1. We will definitely meet on Dec 25th at Lt Atul Kataria memorial school, Mata Road, Gurgaon. We can share our veiws and thoughts and come up with something creative.
2. We will have a village visit on 27th Dec, where in we will visit the village and meet the people and hold some sports event in school besides a talk to the school kids. We can have better plans after the Dec 25th meeting.
Suggestions-
3. I suggest we can announce a cash reward for the fastest boy and Girl (100m run). Even a small reward (500Rs/1000Rs) can be a big incentive for the kids and something the students can look forward to.
4. I also suggest that though we are visiting a Jat village there would be students from other communities like Khati, Chhipi, .... therefore we should address the students and people common and everybody should be welcome to join in.
I am working only due to my eagerness to work. I am also eagerly looking for suggestions/advice/directions/agreements/disagreements from everyone because that alone can make it more successful.
Will keep you updated.

Ps- though we are meeting and visiting village as members of jat community, students of other community (khati, chhippi...) are also welcome to take advantage of any of our efforts. And I think even when we talk to the village people we will talk common rather than specific to Jats.
(please put forward your opinion about this)

Keep up the spirits......You are a gem of a person. God bless you. I will try my level best to be part of this gathering. Thanx for taking pains.

The plan as it is shaping out

Dear All,
As of now. I have visited the village to get to know about the ground situation.
The schedule of events is
Sunday 25th Dec 2005 - We are meeting at Lt Atul Kataria memorial school, Mata Road, Gurgaon. 10 am sharp.
Tuesday 27th Dec 2005 - We will visit the village, starting early for a full day visit. The events planned will be-
a) A meeting with village elders will be organised. The village elders will present the issues that the village is facing. Our members can suggest solutions and put their veiws/queries.
b) A handball match will be organised between villages Barhana and Dighal (their sports rivalry is more than indo-pak rivalry, so it will be interesting to watch and their players are there in national handball team as well).
c) 100m run to decide the fastest boy/girl.
d) Talk to school students.
e) Desi food for lunch.
I have been able to arrange these things only on community goodwill (something i believe in and trust). There is no money transaction involved. I would request some members to come forward and volunteer a cash reward for the sports event (to be presented by the volunteer himself). One reward for 100metre run boy, one for 100mtr run girl and one for handball match.
As for procuring sports items to gift to village for making small sports cell. The following items can be purchased by volunteers themselves - football, volleyball, basketball, cricket bats/balls, handballs... For those who cannot procure these items earlier, When we meet on 25th Dec, they can be purchased from a sports shop which is very near to the school.

I would request all members willing to take part to contact me earliest on my email: navingulia@yahoo.com
or on 09891577028, 09213337996. Kindly send me your contact details (phone, address).

I will be emailing you the issues as i discovered them on my visit.
Kindly also email me the issues you would like to be part of the discussion on 25th.

Everyone is requested to put forward their suggestions, objections, opinions, advice,...

Warm Regards
Navin Gulia

latest

Dear and respected Friends,
Organising issues -
25th Dec Meeting - 10 am - Lt Atul kataria memorial shcool has a conference hall with seating capacity 100. A mike and speaker is arranged. We can have a discussion/brainstorming session. Tea/snacks will be arranged. We have to plan well for our 27th Dec, full day visit to the village.
27th Dec - Village visit -
1. we should start by 8 am - travelling time is 45min from delhi -
2. A meeting/discussion with village elders(small number of them, only the main ones),
3. A round of the village to see for ourselves,
4. Desi Lunch. Menu- (baajre ki roti, sarson ka saag, bathue ka raayta, churma, bhei hui khaand, chaawal, roti, daal :-) ).
5. Talk to school students.
6. Sports event in school. 100m run boys and 100m run girls. Handball match between the 2 villages (trust me, it will be interesting).
Problem points (minor) -
a) We still ve no idea of number members meeting on 25th.
b) Bhai Sandeep Baliyan has volunteered an amount of Rs 501 each for 100m boy an girl.
c) The handball match should ve a prize money of Rs 2000 atleast - to be given by the volunteer himself. Any volunteers.

Village issues -
1) We have decided to focus on two issues - quality education, encouraging sports.
2) Hygene and sanitation - I came to know on my visit that no funds from the govt have reached the village though we are heading towards the end of 1st year of the current govt. Also, according to current govt policy 75% fund will be given to Block Development Officer and only 25% will be given to village sarpanch for work. The issue remains - how much fund will reach the required place and when.
3) Female foeticide - i came to know that it has not yet reached the village and is more prevalent in towns and cities. But it is heading towards villages.

Navin Gulia

I will be there for sure with full interest.

Navin,
Village visit plan looks good. Just to add, we should think about arrangement of commutation, giving rides etc... sport event idea is excellent, I think it would be better to give sport goods and books as prize than money becuase money can be spent on other things like movies etc... Let people come forward, I too can contribute some...

Every sarpanch gets lots of money, we should also inquire those details and how it gets spent... If possible you should have meeting with school kids separately and get feedback from them... Elders have their own perception but kids know more about problems they face themselves....
Good luck!

Vinod
PS: As most of you know, I am terribly sorry that I won't be able to make for the meeting because of problem with air-ticket... But I will meet core people afterwards.

Bhaai Mukesh, Praveen and Jite, good enthusiasm, thats what we need
Bhai Vinod, thanks for your recommendations,
1. Your point regarding talking to students seperately is great, we will be doing that.
2. Books/trophy as prize is a good idea in city schools but the village youth will not get inspired by book/trophy as prize. Cash as prize can motivate them to take part. In villages cash prize motivates (as in wrestling).
3. Opening/promoting a small library facility is one of the points in my mind. We will discuss these points in greater detail on 25th Dec before finalising plans.
4. As i had mentioned, the earlier sarpanches got lot of money but didnt use it(we cant question them :-) ). The current sarpanch(for last 6 months) who happens to be my nanaji has been doing lot of social work in the village before and now also he has already started some work with his own money and is waiting for funds. As per new govt policy sarpanch will get only 25% of the fund, which has also not come as yet, and the remaining 75% will be given to BDO. My nanaji is the right man for us as he is very educated and can provide us all information/assistance we want.
