1]Confidence: Confidence generated through right thinking, truthfulness and assertiveness.
2] Character: Character which can sustain ups and downs of life with a smile and a character which can differentiate between good and evil and can show humility.
3] Education: Education which can enlighten the insight of the child and can enable him to become a responsible citizen and a torch bearer.
4] Self Esteem: Self esteem of a kind that the insight remains enlightened and a child never feels lack of assertiveness.
5] Assertiveness: So that a child can assert for his rights and duties and can share the burdon of others in times of crisis.
6] Humility: If we can teach the child to be modest and down the earth but still alert and upright,we would have done our duty as a parent.
7] Importance to be healthy mind and body: This is one aspect we need to focus a lot these days as life is getting confined to clas rooms and bed rooms.
8] Dignity: This is one quality we all have to keep on practicing ourselves too and once we do it,the children will follow suit.
9] Discipline: A very important aspect of healthy and regulated life.

DONT GIVE IT TO YOUR CHILDREN

1] Sense of false pride: If given, the child will be ruined faster than we think
2] Habit of telling lies: This will demage the self esteem of a child and ultimately the child will lack confidence...A SURE DISASTER DOOR.
3] Free money: Never show off and pour money in the pocket of a child just to prove that you love him/her so much that money is not a problem....This will make the child complecent and the child will land in a bad company and thus bad habits will stick around his neck.
4] Laziness: Be alert, never allow a child to loose interest in life.
5] Wealth/Possessions: Never promise moon to the child...keep the defficiencies always served in plate even if God has given you enough.

Give one more thing:

Patience: In plenty.Fill his/her hours with Smiles..........Keep the child away from hatred at any cost.

Very nice Dev kaka.

I would add ‘courage’ too to the list of virtues. Though upbringing is the key but again the environment outside the home is equally important I guess, from where they do acquire a plethora of ‘stuff’…:)

Yeah, having said that, I would add give ‘freedom’ too to your child but how much and what kind ..that certainly depends on when..

Bebe Poonam thank you so much for additional inputs. Both the points are valid but certainly they can be deduced from above inputs....but all said and done both qualities you mentioned are of great significance.

Very Right...

Bhai Dev & Dr Sahiba,

What you have mentioned is very correct, practicle and true. However, in addition, also make a child DREAM. Dreams do come true.

"You are what your deepest desires are. As you DESIRE, so is your INTENTION. As your intention, so is your WILL. As your will, so is your DEED. As is your deed, so is your DESTINY"

Points to ponder indeed!

Very important post for parents - thanks to all the posters.

I would add ‘Sincerity’ – to be open and truthful; not deceitful!

We should inject all these into our children’s mind and soul - If we want them to be successful, practical and good human beings!

Regards!

Dear Dahiyaji ,

Very nice post. Probably what you and other members intended to point out through your inputs that what are the traits needed for helping the child to shape the 'Positive Attitude' towards life and not the negative Attitude. Our own behaviour and environment at home and school also plays very importent role. It is also true that the Attitude developed in young age stays helps through one's whole life.

It is indeed the most appropriate time that i am reminded of these DOs and don't DOs. My son Siddharth Turns 18 tomorrow. We will have a 'havan' at my residence in the morning. I wish that you all were here to bless the boy with these positive and inspiring thoughts. Although most of the jat friends in Auckland will be attending.

So very true!

Nice Repository!!

What a nice repository of the elements of a good personality! I wish to add positive thinking.

And keep it in mind that children learn by perception. So we must set a good example for them.
