I am not in my best spirits today. Perhaps it’s the fever that’s getting to me, or perhaps it’s the things that aren’t falling in the right places. I hate it when things I have control on down turn out right.
Anyways, I’ve been wanting to write on religion for the past couple of days. The terrible blasts that rocked Delhi raised some highly contentious issues; religion being one issue that is entangled with the others in an unclear manner. Its beyond me to understand what good comes out of taking innocent lives. Its sad and ridiculous beyond measure.
But, coming back to religion, I am not a religious person. I like to think of myself as a spiritual person. Religion, I feel, is a highly personal thing. Ones religious beliefs, rituals, practices are ones own. No one else has a say in them, nor can anyone lay claim on them. Its all a matter of faith. Faith, like love, is blind. It doesn’t need proofs or reasons to persist and if it breaks, then it was never faith in the first place; because faith doesn’t break. It only grows deeper. People who are not atheists practice their faiths in different ways defined by their respective religions. The basic truth remains the same in all religions – that there is a God who takes care of all. We all invoke Him in our prayers.
I believe in God. I don’t address Him with a name. He is simply God. Or rather, my God. I feel my God is with me all the time and all my thoughts and conversations are but prayers He listens to. He has his way of conveying to me the answers I seek at times. When I’m upset I talk to him and feel lighter. I know He understands even without me telling Him how I feel. Praying to Him gives me peace. I can pray anytime, anywhere. He will listen. It is a deeply satisfying relationship.
As I grow older I want to rise above all ignorance, hatred and attachment. It’s a gradual process. As stated in Vedanta, every Atma has to meet the Parmatma at the end of its cycle. Its amazing that in order to realize this simple truth of ‘all is one’ we take several lives laced with fiction (Maya).
I am quite a scatterbrain today to write down all thoughts in order. The next post hopefully wont be this random!
