Gohana/ Haryana/ Aryans/Cows

There is a city called "GOHANA" in Haryana.
It seems the word itself connects the Hunnic tribes "Hepthalites/White Huns", with cows.

If we do sandhi vicchedh of word "Gohana", we get the word "Go + Hana".

So, Go/Gau depending on the pronunciation literally means "Cow" in India and "Hana" are ancient "Hunnic" tribes.

So, it seems "Hans" were associated with cows from their roots, from ancient times. It is quiet probable that "Hunnic" tribes either were living with their cows in this area or migrated to this area and the area got its name after that.

The last known migration of "Hunnic" tribes in ancient India was in the form of "Indo Scythians", who migrated all the way up to Mathura and beyond in small numbers.

Lot of "Han" family names are found in "Jat" clan system, such as, Duhan, Madhan, Chauhan, etc.

It seems there is a need to do archaeological work in this area of Haryana, to find the ancient heritage of these people.

Whether "Han" tribes were "Aryan tribes" or not as told in Indian Mythology seems to be verified. One thing from this name seems to be sure, that these people were associated with cows for their living.

Please quote frankly what is the source of this interpretation? Perhaps someone of Communist ideology with litltle knowledge of Sanskrit or Indian ancient history might have invented such a theory which sometimes also find place in NCERT textbooks. Some European scholars, including Max Mueller, have also preached such theories e.g. the meaning of word Ashvamedha Yajna (अश्वमेध यज्ञ). We all know what does it mean. But such scholars have translated it as - "killing a horse and put it on Holy fire (Yajna) !!

The ancient name of Gohana is Gavambhavana (गवंबहवनः) which means a place where cows are roaming in plenty.

In recent times Bhakt Phool Singh of this area sacrificed his life for protection of cows. Another example is Harphool Singh (Jat Julaniwala) belonging to Bhiwani/ Jind area. How can the ancestors of this such people (and in fact the whole Jatland area), be butchers of cows? Coming of Huns is a different theory - Huns came for a short while but they ran back after fierce battle and did not settle in this area.

"The ancient name of Gohana is Gavambhavana (गवंबहवनः) " : Do u have a rock inscription that dates back to the time, you say this word meant that, whatever, it means according to you.

I work on archaeological facts and not merely mythological saying. Who sacrificed himself for what, has no concern to what, i stated.

Arguments are endless, people can go on arguing as long as they want. The basic fact remains " Is there and archaeological artifact/remains/inscription of the word you say? Whatever you say has to be backed by some ancient manuscript or artifact to verify your statement".
My statement is just based on linguistic meaning of the word.
Secondly, please read history again, "Huns" never went back, north west Bharat people are combination of all different tribes including some "Hunnic tribes".

I hope, i do not sound too much frustrated

Even if there is some archaeological manuscript, it should be carbon dated to verify its ancient existence. Otherwise, there are lot of people able to produce good fakes these days.

These people were not "Chinese Han/Huns" , these were different people/tribes.

You tried good, but looks like did a bit of wrong sandhi vicchedh : It is Maddh + Han

" Maddh" means area near the river
"Han" are the Hunnic tribes

Shantanu, you are also doing a wrong sandhi-vicched of word Gohana. It is not the linguistic meaning, but only "tukbandi".

I am not going to comment further on this 'Gohana' word meaning. In your own words "Arguments are endless, people can go on arguing as long as they want." So, you are free to drag on your endless arguments.

It is quite possible.

There is a place called "Lakhan Majra" near "Gohana". "Lakhana", was the name of a "Hun King".

"Lakhana" was a Hun King - so what? How does it relate to Lakhan Majra village? Could it not be termed as "Lakshman Majra"? We all know that word "Lakshman" is being spoken as "Lakhan" in many Indian dialects including Haryanvi.

.

Friend,

Who they were, from where, why and when did they come are the natural questions which rise in the mind of the readers? Could you share some information on these points.

Thanks and regards

I am not sure if Gohana means what is being said in this thread. Names of our villages followed a well defined pattern of naming in olden days. Have a look;

1. Gohana, Kudana, Tugana, Silana, Fugana, Kutana, Laprana, Taprana, Kairana, ...and list goes on..
2. Sisolli, Binolli, Khatolli, Badolli, Hasolli, .....and list goes on...

I at least don't buy the logic that Gohana has anything to do with cow. Going by the logic presented in the thread Kudana should mean a "bad seed".. Any taker?

Both these theories about Gohana are mere speculations that may or may not be true .

Where Santanu put word" it seems " suggesting a possibility Deswal ji said" its ancient name was" Gavmbhavana

Well I just want to know Is there any historical proof regarding Gohana being refered as Gavambhavana or that is also another guess work by another writer?

I am not a communist nor an atheist but I want my fellow Jatlanders((including Respected Deswal ji) to come out of AryaSamji propaganda about Vedas and history.

Max muller was not a fool How ever Swami ji tried to find out a different meaning for Horse Sacrifice Yagna by twisting meaning of Horse Sacrifice ..... Can you debate here that it was not Horse Sacrifice .

Huna tribe certainly entered Indian soils and penetrated deep inside and historians do agree that a section of current Indian population owe their ancestry to those Hunnic tribes.

Interesting ...

Sigrid Westphal-Hellbusch and Heinz Westphal, the German social anthropologist couple found certain group of people in Irak who were living near river or marshy lands and kept buffaloes with them.

German couple found them similar to Indo pak Jats and carried out their entire research on their relation with Indian Jats .

Muslim historians do acknowledge Jats sieging Basra and other routes in Iraq and establishing their hold in that area for some time Book is a must read for other aspects of our history ,Interestingly name of this tribe of Iraq was Maddhan

If u study history/prehistory, geography and archaeology, you find that early civilizations have risen from middle east, all the way up to present day Gujarat. It was not a coincidence, rather the need of human existence. Why? simply because 10.000 years BC or even earlier climatic conditions were different. If u study the geography/flora/fauna and climatic conditions of 10,000 BC, then you find that there were lush green forests at the place where there are today deserts. The place where Runn of Kutch stands today was all lush green at one point of time. So it is obvious that humans were living in similar areas.

Religions like Christianity, Judaism and Muslim arose from and around Middle East, Why? Middle east was also part of great civilizations at one point of time, we find great civilization such as "Sumarian" civilization which existed 5000 BC arose in middle east.
Lot of Jat family names are written by people residing in middle east as well, interesting fact is that the people of same family names might be have different religious identities, i have seen people having same family names but following Islam and Judaism, and such family names also exist as Jat family names, it can also mean that "Jats" have very ancient roots. A simple example is a city called "Basra" and "Jats" also have same family name. If u will search, you will find several such family names. This also means that clan based identity/ family name identity/ children of kind of identity existed very long back in human history even before religions started.
