Hey afa i know Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel is really a good book to start with.....apart from that you can refer to Sun's website also.....you can even try links given by Sumit......

If I am not wrong the book by dietel (3rd edition.............don't remember but the green colored one is considered the best atleast here for students community). If u r a novice try java programming for sun certification by moghul 2nd edition. It might help. But the best way to learn a language (if u already know programming) is to do a project in it after going through the basics.

Good luck :)

Hi Divya....
you might be right....actually i have hardly studied few books in Java and out of those i liked Thinking in Java the most.....so i adviced that book.....frankly speaking i haven't heared about the book you are mentioning here.... :)
but i do agree that best way to learn a language is to do a project in it after going through basics coz then only you come to know about the intrecasy of the language....
