i am studing in 12th at sonepat, want to apper for iit 2009.how should i prepare for that.i live in a village and not able to take coaching.plz guide me soon.

concepts need to be very clear

as per my brother's experience, i've seen that basic fundas need to be very clear (good command over the concepts).....but still extra coaching is required as the competition is getting very tough

if possible, then do one thing....collect the notes of VMC or FIIT-JEE from some senior or your other friend.....which might be of some help to you.

.....if you are determined only for IIT then for sure you'll make it anyhow.....but don't miss to apply through AIEEE also, otherwise you might miss a good NIT, if for a little chance not selected at IIT (though my all good wishes are with you :))....just telling all this, not to miss the good chance

its not necessary that you can make it through any coaching classes only....you can do it easily if all your concepts are clear to u.....so have a better grasp at the same.....practise solving objective problems provided as sample papers for such competitive examinations available in the market all compiled in single book.....u can ask any bookseller (don't know about sonepat, but at Delhi a large variety is available.....and Delhi is not so far from sonepat).....rest, i'll surely provide you the exact name of such book as soon as i get the information

(though i'm not from the same stream, but adviced a little to help u....if it could be of any help.....rest the exact way for the preparation could be known by those who already had cleared IIT).....let me name one or two whom you can contact here.....Anil Dalal, Shobhit Deswal (both are the product of IIT)....don't know there exact id....but with names you can reach them and get some good help/guidance for the same

All the Best!! :)

Hello Krishan,
Wish you good luck for IIT-JEE.
As per my experience I will suggest you prepare basics and practice as max as you can. As IIT-JEE pattern is changing year by year. Initially it was screening and mains now they are taking only one that too with two common papers of all the subjects including objective and subjective type of questions.

I appeared in IIT-JEE-2003, that it was very basics questions like least count of vernier calipers in Physics and large conceptual questions/problems. But nowadays pattern has changed a lot, as per my knowledge now papers contain more basics and small concpetual questions.

About preparation procedure I would say take some sample papers and see how they ask and prepare accordingly. Your books/courses of 11th and 12th standard(Which board r u studying?) are very important for preparing basics. And then take any standard study material(you can borrow or buy second hand from your frnds/seniors) and prepare.

Regularity is very important for preparation of any kind of competitive of exams. So I would suggest you can join a test series by FIIT-JEE/Any other suchh institute or borrow papers from your friends who have joined the test series and solve yourself.

Rest is on your dedication and time management.

If you want more clarification you can write to me.

Wish you good luck.
Regards,
Manoj

P.S.- Anil Singh Dalal, Shobhit Deshwal, Jitendra Mavlia, Abhimanyu Sindhu and others who have cleared IIT-JEE, please share your experience here.

thanks Neelam Manoj!

Thanks guys for providing an initial hands-on.

Krishan did write to me and i expect a contact number from his side to contact to him personally.

Still let me share my views with you all!

IIT-JEE is not as tough as it seems at first. There are some pre-preparations vital for it and then some dedication and zeal and there is high probabliity of making it!

Exam Pattern : Very important , IIT is famous for giving shocks on Exam day. I had it on 8:05 am on My mains exam! 2 years I had been solving all difficult questions from the toughhest of books thinking that there would be 10 quesns , 10 marks each , and all damn diffuicult ones and what I got was a 60 marks exam with 12 questions and very easy ones.
My morale was shocked because Chemistry being my strong subject and such an easy paper did damage my chances. LEsson learnt well! And all of you should expect this!
I have been away from IIT exam pattern but off late it has been turned to more objective and easy types than long and difficult ones!

POINT: STUDY THE EXAM PATTERN WELL ,MASTER IT! :)

Identify your strengths: Very important to do a SWOT (Strnegth , Weakness , Opportunities , Threat) analysis of yourself. Example of mine : Chemistry was my strength , so was remembering power and number crunching and my speed. Physics was my weak point , Maths was opportunity as I was so so , threat was over confidence and over relaxed ness and a tough Physics paper. ( though the luck was against me as 2002 , Physics was the toughest of all :p ).
This analysis should include your feasible timings of study , identifying how and in what way u can maximise your effots ( I used to study in nights because that is most calm and concentrating period).

Books/Materials : Remember to be not moved away by flood of books , keep it simple , a couple of sources for eah topic is good enough ( Ideally it should be one study material (VMC , FIITJEE , BRIALLIANTS(Please note : However old they are : Brilliant Tutorials are very good at picking up themes of coming Exam ( In all the institutes that were offering coacing in 2002 , they were the only one to predict an easy and lengthy kind of paper than short and difficult ones. I used to laugh at their test series :( saying it was all too easy but was remembering them all day long at the Mains exam day :o) ).
How to prepare : IIT is a couple of year thingy than a 6 month one. do study more , understand the topic more than anything else. Again personal favouritism comes more important , I was always a deep lucid theory reader and books were best friends , some people just study notes and practics a lot! whatever suits u! :) Though would advise always read a detailed theory book on the topic at least the big ones like stoichiometry , mechanics , DE , Calculus , functions. Understanding basics is far more important , Remember that in our calculus coaching , our teacher taught us functions for 8 letures and them finished DE , Differentiation , Integration , Areas in one lecture each , but we were so strong on functions that come what may we were good! :)
Bottom Line : One book and One notes book.

Tests : Do a lot , test series from at least a couple of sources , is ideal. do previous year question papers , practice a lot considering time limitations in mind. Never give yourself complete time , Always give yourself 90% of time allotted. On the D-day you will waste at leazst 10% of time on nervousness , filling things carefully , tension , stress etc !

Class 12th , Other NITs : Very important , do not just ruin everything else for IIT and remember whatever you learn at school is also very important , infact these days the IIT pattern has moved towards the Boards syllabus and standard a lot! And these things will help u in any case in life. IIT is at least 5% luck , so never forget to enroll into AIEEE , DCE etc as well ( I did not but still I adivse). :)

Well thats pretty much it! Coaching or No Coaching , a dedicated efforts will do it! :)
