Neither Mr. Hooda nor Mr. Chautala will come and do my personal chores for me. Hence, both the gentlemen are equal to me. I would support them for being fellow Jats.
However, if we take the case of Mr. Hooda, we realize that during his first term in office as CM there was hardly any work done in favour of Jats. In fact under the Mr. Hooda govt. people who sat on the railway tracks in the heat and dust demanding Jat reservation were lathi-charged, shot at and killed. Even the women and the elderly were not spared. Reservation for Jats (Very minor of 2 percent in Haryana and that too for lower grade jobs) and finally in the centre was the last ditch Congress effort to garner Jat votes. In fact, in the last general elections the Congress removed all full stops in appeasing one and all and passed almost all the demands of sections of society whom they thought could brighten up its electoral fortunes. So, I do not see any favour that Mr. Hooda has done for Jats, but yes a step though minor (at the state level) has been taken during his tenure. Corruption (Wadra and also in govt. appointments), govt. highhandedness, nepotism, etc. is still very much prevalent. Whether we agree or not and whether out of compulsion or out of his own free will, Mr. Hooda has ceded a lot of ground to the Punjabi community, an example of which is giving Punjabi an official language status.
Coming to Mr. Chautala, even during his tenure not much was done. Corruption and govt. highhandedness, nepotism, etc. were rampant as they are now. Despite the many tenures of INLD govt.s in Haryana and despite the fact that INLD was predominantly a Jat party, reservation was not given to Jats. Law and order remained an area of concern during successive INLD govt.s possibly because of govt. patronage to the hoodlums. Though even INLD today is trying to prop up the Punjabi community, the only positive thing that I see about INLD today is 1. Its educated younger leadership (even though it is mainly from one family hinting at dynastic politics) 2. It does not have a command headquarter outside Haryana like in the case of the Congress.
Hence, Mr. Chautala holds a very slight edge over Mr. Hooda. Their style of functioning may be different, the end result in terms of corruption, nepotism, etc. is the same. Haryana as a state would also be better under Mr. Chautala who would certainly have good relations with the BJP at the centre and hence, with better state-centre coordination, people of Haryana would benefit from central schemes and grants.
Only hope that whichever party it is, maximum number of Good Jat candidates are given ticket. One thing is for sure - if I had to vote between a Congress Jat and a INLD Jat candidate, i would not have strengthened the hands of the communal criminal and corrupt Congress. We have suffered enough under the 10 years of Congress misrule at the centre and I would certainly not strengthen their hands in the Rajya Sabha by voting for Congress in the state.
Though even Capt. Abhimanyu is also a good choice in case the BJP projects him as CM.
