Learn and Know Idioms is my hobby,
I am going to start this new topic on Idioms and Phrases, means मुहावरे in Hindi language,
This (Idioms and Phrases) is the main subject of every language in every education system.
Everyone is invited to share their favorite idioms in any language,
but Haryanavi and Jat Idioms are highly appreciated.
I will try to bring all the idioms I learned with meaning and example.
 
आँख का तारा

आँख का तारा
(बहुत प्यारा)
आज्ञाकारी बच्चा माँ-बाप की आँखों का तारा होता है।
 
banana republic

banana republic
Meaning: poor country with a corrupt or dishonest government.
Example: "Mango people in banana republic" is the fresh idioms additions to the Indian political lexicon by Robert Vadra in reply of comment of Aam Aadami Party.
 
A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bush:
Having something that is certain is much better than taking a risk for more, because chances are you might lose everything.
 
aching heart
Meaning : a feeling of sadness that one has when love has been lost or has faded
Example: The young woman spent the weekend alone with her aching heart.
 
at heart
Meaning: basically, essentially, what one really is rather than what one appears to be
Example: The man seems to be angry all the time but actually he is a very gentle person at heart.
 
मत मारी जाट की, राँघड़ राख्या हाली,
वोह उसने काम कहे, वोह दे उसनै गाली !


Mujhe is muhavre ka matlab to nhi pata, aur sahi se ye bhi nhi pata ke ye kahavat hai, muhavara hai ya koi lokokti. But I like it.
 
Perhaps you could show how to use it for those of us who do not know.

A Hindi मुहावरा having essentially a similar meaning to the one you have cited is:

लालच बुरी बला है।
