IIT suggestion

Congrats Anurag!!

You can choose the stream which interests/inspires you. Remember, it's a life long association.
Every stream has scarcity of excellent, talented people. It would be easy for you to be excellent in something which interests you. Also remember, the job market is not limited to India these days.

Got AIR 651 in jee.
Need hlp for selcting stream and college urgently

It would help if you can let us know of your own aspirations and strength points. I was AIR 486 , but i was so chocked of taking electrical that i did not even got close to filling it. I was right actually , my lowest grades in IIT were in Electrical related subjects. So will depend on your passion.

Here is a brief info about IITD at least.

Mech guys : go for core companies + consultancy.

Comp Sci and Maths (Integrated 5 years , which i did) go for Softwares and Finance companies.

Electrical again core + softwares etc.

You also need to tell yourself if you want to do MBA/PHD etc later...
LEt me know if need more help.

ya actually i too am not intersted in electrical. I like maths and hate chemistry.
And ya i think i might plan further studies perhaps MS from some foreign universities
Further bhaiya i hav heard that maths and computing is too tuff. is it? I am slightly inclined towards this branch.
Also, please suggest something which i could do now before the classes start to get an extra edge if i plan to join maths and computing.
Thanks.

Why are you planning for MS in some foreign countries..if you cant succeed in life with IIT then there is no hope for you .. why to waste one seat ?Leave it for deserving guy..
Try to be idiot[3]. :)

If you like maths then go with mechanical.

Further choose the stream based on your interest, suppose if you are curious about inside the automobiles /machines (not just cars), then best to hunt for mechanical. If you love to play with computers , then obvious CSE.

My personal view that relate all these things since your childhood.

If u like maths than mechanical is good option. Choose mechanical in any iit. Don't be confuse with computer branch.

ok , cool , if you are inclined towards integrated m.tech. in mathematics and computing then you probably hit the right guy (me!). well its like 60% maths and 40% comp science in a nutshell. i would boast that you are as good as a comp sceince b.tech (of course if you study well) afer 5 years. On top of that you have undergone rigorous training in mathematics.
the course is good , i certainly liked it , its tough for the abstractness of maths but you can do lot many application courses as well. prof's are not so great frankly but that's everywhere in india (lack of good faculty). if you like solid maths and also want to keep your doors open to finance , computers , phd's , go for this one. remember that you will have to compete with computer science and electrical engineering students (air 1- 300 roughly) , so you will have good challenge all the way , that's the beauty of it!

i do not think you need any extra preparation before starting the course to succeed. you will get hit with a lot of hard work through first year so get mentally prepared for same. develop flair for analytics , calculus and logic as well. solve logic puzzles , suft through internet for maths.

your first sem (if i have not got too old) would contain courses from all departments (maths , comp science , electrical , mechanical). also if you did not have any computer science background , it might be a good idea to learn c++ or any other pogramming lanugage like java , .net etc. you will have lots of assignments (i copied them all from hostel friends:D) during your 5 year course.

let me know if you need more info.

thanks,

mca is short for integrated m. tech. in mathematics and computer applications , its a 5 year integrated (you get a m. tech. degree at the end) course offered at IIT-Delhi and some other IIT's.

hope that helps.
