India - 11 Years of Nuclear Power - What we achieved?

On this day (Precisely 11th and 13th May) 11 years ago India conducted Operation Shakti. We conducted five underground nuclear tests (3 on May 11 and 2 on May 13) and declared India a Nuclear State. The tests were also nicknamed POKHRAN - II, Pokhran II demonstrated that India was ready to incur costs in defending its national interest. Despite enormous popular support, Pokhran II drew criticism on the grounds of morality, ideology, pragmatism and stratagy.
The tests resulted in instant economic sanctions, but ten years after the nuclear tests, the world is now racing ahead to proclaim India a rising global power. Now, there is a reasonable argument that sustained economic growth is responsible for this transformation. But it is undeniable that the nuclear tests made India a far more credible actor in the international arena. Both because India’s nuclear status was unambiguous and because Pokhran II demonstrated that New Delhi was capable of taking calculated strategic risks where it mattered.

1. A world class bicycle
2. An indigenously made quality combat rifle - automatic or semi-auto
3. A quality computer wholly made with domestically produced parts
4. A world class quality tank or an apc ( all from home made parts)
5. A domestically produced fighter plane (all parts made domestically)
6. A long range bomber or any bomber at all
6. A submarine
7. An aircraft carrier
and I can go on and on.
Let me know if they are making any of these.
Because I don't think they are making any of these right now.
Also I think that Indian military just like the paki military cannot fight a conventional war for more then 2 weeks. They will run out of spare parts and the people too do not have the stomach for a war longer then that. Thanks.

now whatever you have mentioned..is very specialized kind of weaponary...only Russia and US can claim to have developed all of them...nd even Russia is behind US..China is start-up in all these things..as far as India is concerned - bicycles are really top notch these days, we have desi versions of AK 47, Arjun tank, submarine yes, no bomber , small stealth planes, no indeginueously built aircraft carrier (till now but there were talks of building one, obviously will take long). Also DRDO has developed some state of the art Radar systems.

abt ur views on the Indian Army, only an expert can tell the real resilience of the Army in time of adversity. Army is a great instituion and you should not make any reckless commnets just bcoz the thought came to ur mind.

I think, Aman was right to an extant that we had not produced any of the things he had mentioned in these years........ In case of war they will embargo us just like they did in previous wars. The result will be a stalemate as always.
We have people who are capable of developing combat rifles like ak47 or better but where are they? Why is India not investing in developing indigenous arms?
Could it be that some politicians get kickbacks by giving out contracts to foreign arm suppliers who are depositing money in their swiss bank accounts?

Some people here don't like constructive criticism. This guy said India does make a world class bicycle - so I asked which name brand it is so I can buy it. But he didn't have the guts to say I don't know, or I was lying etc etc. Instead this has become a discussion of patriotism!
Friends, countrymen and women, You do realize that in not so recent mumbai attacks it took almost a day for those black cat commandoes to reach mumbai! tell me should it that long? Then those commondoes did not even have the most basic equipment to fight those paki terrorists! All the World was watching this live on tv and that included the lashkar taiba terrorist handlers! and Indian press was broadcasting almost every move of those commandoes! The nukes don't help in such kind of situations. That is what I have been trying to tell you.

I understand your critcism.. No country is perfect.. we have to make it a better place to live..
We don't make world class bicycles/cars/bikes/tanks because we have some other priorites like providing education to masses, better medical facilities.
I agree that these are basic things and we should have devloped them in last 60 years.
As we said Its never late to start.
Even China don't make any world class products but they are doing terrific work for healthcare, education and Infrastructure.
India is a democractic country and it takes time to implement things.

Communal and rascism are everywhere.. so Modi and Advani are no exceptions. Everybody does caste/religion base Poltics and everywhere in world.
