India at CWG 2010

Gold medalist wrestler Anil Kumar

Some Interesting Facts:

We didn't have too much gold medalist wrestlers in Commonwealth Games so far. Even Satpal (silver) and Subhash (bronze) like wrestlers had not won gold medal in these games. Before Commonwealth Games 2010, just 22 gold medals had been won by the Indian wrestlers in the 80 years' history of these games. They are as under:

1958 : Lila Ram (87 kg)

1966 : Bishambar Singh (57 kg)
1966 : Mukhtiar Singh (68 kg)
1966 : Bhim Singh (97 kg)

1970 : Ved Prakash (48 kg)

Geeta is from village Balali, my neighbouring village in dist Bhiwani. She is from Phougat gotra Jat family.

Her younger sister Babita is also a wrestler. Both these sisters are trained by their father Sh Mahabir Singh Pehalwan (listed in Uppu's list above).

I had earlier posted one article published on this family.

Uppu bhai, I know Lila Ram and his family. Lila Ram belonged to Village Mandola in Bhiwani. Not sure about his Gotra as this village has many gotras including Sangwans. This village falls on Dadri - Mahendergarh road - around 12 KMs from Dadri. His memorial is made near the village bus stand in Mandola.

Lila Ram was very heavy weight person. Off late during last few years of his life he was finding it difficult to walk properly and always needed a person to take him around. We used to greet him while going to school as he used to be out on morning walk / exercises near our school.

Unfortunately none of his sons could do anything significant in the field of wrestling. Still, Lila Ram is a well known name in the area.

संजय कटारिया Is Also A जाट बॉय .........................................Sahpur Turk (Sonipat)
