Dear Mr Dabas,
Things are not as simple as mentioned in the attachment you have posted. Its not only the Indian currency, even US$ has gone down against Canadian $. British pound also has gone down quite substantially. Currency going down has both negative and positive effects. On the one hand if it makes imports expensive, exports become cheaper which indirectly help India to capture markets overseas.
No doubt, drinks like Pepsi, Coca Cola are not good for health. Governments are educating public about their bad effects even in western countries. UK schools are being encouraged to serve more health foods these days and avoid drinks like Coca Cola etc. Banning a product alone is not going to help unless there are scientific studies confirming its bad effects. Ban from health point of view has to be world wide and not just country specific as it has wider implications on our trade.
Now coming to branded cloths. How does it matter what brand name you give till these cloths are made in India and sold all over the world? India earns more money by selling these cloths through established world brands. Do you think a small Indian tailor can compete these days in world market on his own?
The views you have posted, are of someone with very limited knowledge about world trade. There is no way India can become strong unless she engages with the strongest countries of the world. Shutting ourselves away from world markets is not going to help us. Let us face the world it its terms...
