Dear Shweta Madam/Beti (Keep the title which appeals to you),

I appreciate your idea; quite an original one. Hope you do not mind if I label you, Deepshi, Maniisha, Ritu, Sunita Hooda + other equally bright girls (sorry, unable to remember names) as JatLand Phuljharis, who write so well. Keep up your sparks and brightness!!

Coming to the point, Poetry, Fiction & History happen to be my weak spots. However, taking an inspiration from Dev Dahiya & Jit Takhar, I am making a maiden attempt.

Wonder if you ever heard, my first name is unique, it is TANPAT!
Was glad to find a similar one in Air Force, a Firing Range called TILPAT!!
My village is BICHPARI , Teh GOHANA & the Distt is SONEPAT !
Gohana, for your info, is on the highway connecting Rohtak to PANIPAT!!

Born in an ordinary kisan family; father's education - middle pass, but kept up pressure on us to study hard.
My childhood hobbies : Gulli Danda, kabbadi, Enjoyed rides on buffaloes in village pond and learnt swimming by catching/holding their tails, kheti baari etc
Studied in ordinary schools but did pretty well.
Follower of Arya Samaj Principles because of environmental influence.

Mera Chamatkar :
Disproved the Jat saying "Jat re Jat solaa duni aath (16x2=8) by topping in Panjab University in BA (Hons in Maths) & again in MA (Maths). In those days, Panjab Uni was the only one of its kind in joint Panjab. Later, added M Sc (Defence Studies) from Madras Uni as an award for completing Defence Services Staff College course.

Had an aim to make it to IAS but as luck would have it, even before trying for the same (due to under age), landed up in IAF ; no regrets!

Family : Multicultural (as you will see)
Wife : 1(only); old timer BA BT; Block Education Oficer (first job, direct selection) Haryana state; had to resign because of my central Govt job.
Elder son (now 41); Picked up a non-Jat partner while doing BE (Delhi College of Engg); both now at senior positions in IBM at San Jose. Father of a 10 yr old girl, who is a shining star in Maths in California state.
Younger son : IITian, MBA from Harvard; picked up Chinese girl (MBA batchmate from Harvard) as partner; He is now VP, Nielsen at San Francisco; wife out of job to look after tiny tots (a boy & a girl)
Daughter: Single. Grad from DAV College for women, Chandigarh; again grad in Merchandise Management from Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. Presently heading e-commerce division of Armani Exchange Corp in Canada.

Others' impression about me : Strict husband, strict father, strict teacher, strict examiner (they dont tell I am strict to myself, too). My wife confirms that I am soft at heart; she being the custodian perhaps knows it better. Self & wife were strangers to each other till "Saat Phere" ceremony.

Retired from IAF in 1996. Last assignment thereafter was appointment as a Member on an International Inquiry (headed by Justice RC Lahoti ex-CJI) on Charkhi Dadri mid air collision resulting in loss of 349 lives.

Present employment : Part time baby sitting to assist our Chinese daughter-in-law, who is on this full-time job, these days.

Warmest Welcome Sir!

It gives me a great feeling to have such a distinguished personalty on Jatland. You could be a lots of inspiration to youngsters, specially from rural backround. It is such a huge privilege not only to have a senior Retired IAF officer but also to have another University topper here. Sh. Rajeder Kumar Kalkhande also coming from a rural background had topped Meerut University, now engaged in Improving the Rural Health in his Native place Shamli.

Sir, are you brother of Sh Hawa Singh Pannu, retied HCS/ IAS? In fact I was looking through your Dhamar connection.

We already have a very distinguished List of personalities from Defence background that includes Brigadier Lakshman Singh, Colonel Tavethia, Colonel Jagmohan Malik and Colonel Dev Dahiya.
I hope and believe that your active presence on jatland would add a great value to this Forum!

Warmest Welcome Sir!

--------
Sir, are you brother of Sh Hawa Singh Pannu, retied HCS/ IAS? In fact I was looking through your Dhamar connection.
------
Sateypal

Cheers!
Deshwal Sahib,

Yes, you are right; he is my elder brother. My Dhamar connection is because of (Late) Shri Balwant Singh Hooda, who had been Headmaster, Govt Middle School, Butana during my school days thereat; he was a staunch Arya Samajist, simple and high thinking person.
--------

My sincere thanks to every one for extending warm welcome. In fact, I had joined much earlier but it was only now that I accidently came across this thread & thought of penning down my intro.

Please read tails for tales; poor buffaloes cant tell any tales. I had erred in spelling, which was corrected but much later.

Sir, I know late Sh. Balwant Singh Hooda, very well as he was not only a 'Guhandi" but a close friend and associate of my father.
I believe, you had some 'Restedaari' (relations) as well in Dhamar and also in Ladhaut ( My Village). I will send you a PM soon

If we talk of your name sir, it was not that unique in those days.
I believe, your parents named you after the folklore king Utanpat/ uthanpat and we all know how we shorten names in villages like Dharma for Dharamchand, Rama for Ramanand etc.

Regards
