Fatehji, that is another point. Being a agrarian nation when we got freedom ceiling act was imposed but for industrialist we never had anything like , how much industries they can have but as most of say we are a democratic nation and just like people one sitting in power also have their rights ;)

Just a question , I am not aware, Is there any tax imposed on high earning farmers by government. For example, a farmer is ploughing up 1000 bighas, he will be liable of any tax on his income?

No taxes on the direct earnings of agriculture from a farmer...!

but yes if the same money is put in market and other means of investment than it becomes liable to be taxed.

Well Guys ...Theres NO PROFIT in uttering Bad/Good words for anyone ...Lets Unite and Stand against Corruption..

Democracy in its worst form is better then Anarchy

Dear, I fully agree with you but here discussion is whether we have democracy working in India or not, otherwise everyone knows that democracy is much batter but dear do we have democracy or dictetorship on the name of democracy

The hidden face of Indian democracy

http://www.indiatvnews.com/news/Ind...k_Flag_Waving_SP_Activist_As_Rahul-12066.html

Phulpur, UP, Nov 14: It appeared to be a scene lifted from a Bollywood action film. As Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alighted from his helicopter at the helipad near his rally site, fawning Congress leaders awaiting to welcome him with bouquets rushed towards him.

Soon after, somebody pointed out to some Samajwadi Party activists waving black cloth from near the barricades.

Several Congress leaders left Rahul Gandhi midway, and in the melee that ensued, the Congress leaders ran towards one of the activists, grabbed him, threw him to the ground and began kicking him.

Congress leaders Pramod Tiwari, CPN Singh and Jitin Prasada were seen pummelling and kicking the SP activist.Local policemen also pitched in, with some of them raining lathi blows and hitting him with the butt of their guns.

Stern faced SPG men directed the police to drag the man away, who was carrying a black cloth. The SP had decided to show black flags to Rahul Gandhi to protest corruption and pricerise.

SP general secretary Mohan Singh told India TV that he condemned this brutal beating up of the man.

"It exposes the true face of Congress. These Congress leaders beat up the man in a show of sycophancy.

"In a democracy, every citizen has the right to protest, and the man was only showing a black cloth. It betrays the despondency among the Congress leaders.", said Singh.

Asked why then was the SP supporting the Congress at the centre, Mohan Singh said, we have not given unconditional support. "We gave conditional support on some issues".

Congress leaders were repentant. They said, such persons deserved such a thrashing particularly when their leader was going to kickstart his UP poll campaign.

Arvind, these kind of incidents are highly deplorable in a perfect democracy. But, going by such incidents, it seems our democracy has not yet matured and has to go a long way to acquire the real shape. Not only Congress, other parties are also not behind in hooliganism. Be it Maharashtra where our great leader Modi's blue-eyed boy Raj Thakre's goons are holding Mumbai at ransom - beating 'North Indians', be it cosmopolitan city Bangalore where the saffron brigade goes on rampaging bars, discotheques and restaurants in the name of moral policing; or a mayhem indulged in by ABVP cadre in the educational institutions in Madhya Pradesh killing professors (in Ujjain). Be it BSP, Samajwaadi, INLD, Congress or BJP, most of their leaders need a kick on their butt. India needs a band of some sensible, educated, corruption free and dynamic leaders drawn from all parties forming an entirely new party of like-minded people to salvage the sinking ship of this 'titanic democracy'. But, as of now it seems only a utopia. Therefore, this will continue for decades to go as our society is sharply divided on linguistic, religious, casteist and regional lines.

Friends,

The free and frank discussion on the issue is itself a direct evidence of the democracy. So long as people have freedom of speech and expression, Democracy will continue to get nourishment and its roots will go deeper and deeper. Irrespective of the number of political parties in the Country, Indian democracy is one of the ideal forms of the government not only in Asia but in the world. Of late the grass root democracy at the level of villages in the form of Panchayats is further getting participative role in managing their affairs and role of bureaucratic (stiff necked) officials is being limited to a large extent in formulation and implementation of village development schemes/plans. In the years to come, it is hoped that newer faces will come to occupy places in the State Legislatures and Parliament too. Several of the other countries of the Asia and other continents, which attained freedom around the time India became free, have lost their democratic governments to military juntas but it is India that continues to enjoy democratic functioning of the government (aberration in 1975 of course). In recent years several 'scams' have come to light that really may cause disturbance in one's mind as threat or danger to democracy. But it is also one of the strengths of our democracy that several persons named in these acts of 'scams' are behind the bars.
in the end, I appeal through this platform that instead of raising question mark on the Indian democarcy we must put more efforts to mobilize various forces of enlightened nature to strengthen it further. Regards and thanks

Dr. Raj Pal Singh

The minimum rate of agricultural produce is set by govt so that no one can buy at a rate less than that. Farmer is free to sell at higher rate. If govt. does not do it then the looser is the farmer. So my friend first understand the policy of fixation of rates for agricultural produce.

Jakhar bhaisahab , you are right i also knew the meaning of democracy and read the same that INDIA is a democratic country but it is only when we vote not before and after that.

Election use to happen even when India was ruled by britishers then why people had problems??
Bhagat Singh once said , we dont want freedom where white people are replaced by black people and same thing happened.

Do you think, should it happen in a democracy, where the govt plays the mediator to corporate when they take land from farmer and that too not at the market rate.Nothing has started in the land that was taken for reliance SEZ ( this is one of the example)and rate of that land has gone five fold from the time it was taken from farmers.

Farmer simply get notice that there land will be taken, who ask for there opinion, why not if govt is for people and by the people? does there say count?
Why the rate of products produced by farmer is set by govt not for the steel, iron,n other things?

Chahe isse koi flawed mane ya kuch aur lekin meri najar mein ground pe democracy nahi hai.

Dear Friend,
India is a democratic country where universal franchise rights are bestowed on all the eligible citizens. Yes, the name of 'Nehru Gandhi Dynasty' continues to attract the attention of the critics of Congress and 'sycophants' of all hues and colours. There is no harm if the 'dynasty' draws the strength to wield power by winning the battles of ballot and following the footprints of their illustrious predecessors like Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru (one of the greatest democrat of his times) to give a firmer ground to the functioning of democracy.
The extra-constitutional centre of power is rightly considered a hindrance in the way of real democracy. We still remember the transgression of the norms of our democratic functioning cannot be tolerated as is testified by the history of our country. Even the big names of the 'dynasty' had been rejected by the people in the Lok Sabha Elections held in 1977. (The then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi along with her son, Mr. Sanjay Gandhi could not enter parliament on account of their role leading to imposition of internal emergency and during internal emergency days). The Indian voter, who is enlightened cannot be overtaken by any 'dynastic' appeal only for all times to come; only those will be allowed to run the state affairs who are properly elected to the constitutional institutions like the assemblies and lok sabha etc. Moreover, the number of elected representatives outnumber many folds to the so called dynastic representatives in the country. It is not a weakness of democracy that allows this to happen but of a specific political party which has failed to muster majority in the Lok Sabha since 1990 and resultant dependence on the name of the dynasty.
We must appreciate the real strength of the Indian democracy that people from all walks of life, who had no connection with the dynasty referred by you in the post under reference, have adorned the posts of the Prime Minister, President, Speaker of Lok Sabha Deputy Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of various Indian States over the years.
Sincerely Yours
Dr. Raj Pal Singh

Oh! So Dr Raj Pal Ji, you mean that all these corrupt and gundas who enter parliament and rule "us" are voted to the power by we, "the people" because we really want these kind of people to rule us. Sorry to say, people are not "stupid". - Yesterday, I realized, even Google knows who is stupid :)

Democracy in India is no more than a dream for an average citizen. Yes, it is a full democracy for a class of people on who's wish everything can happen. They can decide who should be the minister, who all are free to loot and plunder upon the rich minerals in India, who all are free to acquire farmer's land, even who all goes to jail and who all are free to rape and kill people at their wish.

And yes, I know, some people would think that "honorable" Kapil Sibel "Ji" was not acting as a dictator when he ordered IT communication giants to do the pre-screening without getting or discussing this fundamentally impacting thing in the parliament. Obviously, how he could have thought that people have fundamental rights when, in reality, he knew that everything is controlled by a whip, he himself being a part of it?

So in India, for few, everything is freedom including the freedom of taking away someone else's freedom, including the freedom of manipulating the constitutional laws because he/she saw someone's image that was not of someone's taste. When the taste of few is more important than the laws and the freedom of people, I wonder to which class does the person belongs to when someone says that India is a democratic country?

I am not sure what made you talk of 1977 and 1990 while completely sidelining the present. I wonder if it was your personal affiliation that was talking or your brain?

some people have a political agenda on JL - they even openly solicit votes for the BJP on jl!

Dear Friend,

Your anguish on the present state of affairs is understandable and I have all respect for your right to disagree with me. This is the fundamental principle of democracy to debate, discuss and then arrive at some conclusion. The purpose of my post has already been rewarded as it has goaded the right type of discussion on the current issues in the light of the historical facts responsible for the success of our democratic system of course with certain aberration now and then. Present scenario is closely watched by the people and I am optimistic that it would certainly lead to further strengthening the democratic form of government in future too. The present unprincipled scramble of the unprincipled political alliances for enjoying their slice of power would certainly come to an end in the foreseeable future. Then History is a great teacher to show the exit door to even the mightiest as already pointed out in my previous post.

Kindly permit me to add here for making the record straight that I have been participating in the discussion purely as an academician and I have nothing to do with any political party; hence no question of alleged 'affiliation' or 'hidden agenda'.

Please keep up enlightening the public in your own style!

with regards,

Dr. Raj Pal Singh

We claim that we are the champion of democracy and all our leaders vow to change the destiny of the nation. In reality these are nothing but just claims. We haven’t succeeded yet in eliminating longstanding problems of unemployment, nepotism, corruption, population explosion, energy crisis, and list goes on and on.

Current ministers are puppets, and some evil force pull their strings behind the scenes. What should be done in a country where the spirit of democracy is abused, where bribery moves the wheels of institutions, where nepotism, favoritism & double standards are the order of the day, where hypocrisy is the code of bureaucracy, where truth is on the scaffold and wrong on the throne, where criminals are at liberty to enjoy the privileges of life and common man struggle for basic needs.

Country needs to renovate its social, political, and economical structure with a new spirit and vigour, I guess
