Dev Dahiji, Col malik ji NAMASTE!

kya kabhi TOKEN lagane walno ke aage hokar nahi bhage.

It was a common scene at any municipal committee chungi, or any where in its jurisdiction , their staff chasing the cyclist who won,t stop for checking.
I think it was done away with in mid 70s

Aur bhi memories!...

Hmmm...mazaa aa gaya na sirf en 'cyclan' nae yaad karkae?...

It is amazing what a small thing in our lives can actually be such a cool thing afterall and bring back so many great and nostalgic memories...

BTW Col Malik, now you mentioned it....you in turn brought back some other childhood memories for me too!
You see, meri Bua/Phupha ka ghar bhi Rohtak main 'Sheila-Talkies' kae hee bilkul pass hi tha... (actually on the street right across the main road that ran infront of the cinema hall,...so from the ghar kae peeche kae aangan you could see the front of the theatre) Sabhee chuttiyon mein wahnee jaate thae....Meri bua ka ladkae; elder cousin brothers (Did you ever come in contact with Jagpal, Yashpal and/or Satpal Sangwan's?) they were such cool guys (fearless and humorous) and I remember were infact a lot of inspiration and influence for a young Jat mind like myself (and other younger cousins in the family too for that matter)...

And I also quite remember that India-England cricket series quite vividly now that you mention it... the tea breaks etc. would have us assemble out on the street and have an impromptu tennis ki ball waala cricket right away!

Indeed...

Bhai Shailendra,

To be frank I don't remember the names of very many college students that I came across whenever I stayed in Rohtak. I used to stay with Satbir Mama whose house was/is located exactly opposite the Shiela Theater. Our Nani was very famous, loving and strict. In fact we used to keep her in good humor to ensure our extended stay. (Actually one of my uncle's friend Ch Kuldip Singh Antewala is married to Satbir Mama's sisiter. Kuldip Chacha is a Lawyer in Jind. His son Samar Deswal and his cousin Rajbir Deswal and self used to RV at Rohtak whenever we got a chance)

In those days one didn't ask too many questions and we became friends with people who were hanging around with our friends. I am sure I must have met with the persons you mentioned but don't remember the names.

Regards,

JS Malik

I miss those days too. But, now life is too busy to think of "woh din."

Talking of bicycles, I want to relate whats been happening here over the past one week. Around five days ago, my friend knocked my door. I figured out the typical 2 and a half knocks. Means, I can answer the door in my pyjamas and my hair flying in all directions. I asked hime wassup? He goes on: you onwt believe, theres no gas (petrol) anywhere in town. Since I was half asleep, though "sala topi pehna raha hai." I said, you got to be kidding. He said that he was serious. I left for gym after the usual chores, and to my amazement, all gas stations had their price tags removed, meaning they weren selling gas no more. Then came the major shock. My finance instructor discussed how gas sold for 10 dollars a gallon in Missisippi. Then some friends told me tha tthey filled for 6 dollars a gallon in Atlanta. In my town the cas spiked up by a dollar over night, where ever it was available.

As I drove back home, for the first time, though: "ab kya hogaa." Gas was worth flesh and blood.

Well, I think I never thought of "woh din" like I do now. I strongly feel that as long as I need to pay with my flesh and blood to fill my tank, I think I am going to ride a bicycle. I am sure that it was always great riding around the "muhallas" on my bicycle. I hope that as start doing it again, it just adds to the good section of my memories. Phew ! a chill goes down my spine when I imagine myself pedalling down in the simmering summer sun.

Kya yaad dilla diya

This has bought back childhood memories.

Me and bike were inseperable (It was Red Hero).

I think the best birthday gift ever my parents bought me.

I used to ride my bike everywhere and for hours.

Sense of Freedom and thrill. It was great fun.

I taught my younger brother too.

I bought a bike recently and I ride it sometimes, but its not like the childhood days.

PS: I used to call my bike chetak :)
