Jat at the Red Fort

He was not confident to hold the PM's Chair, so he left the chance. Ch. Devilal was a very good leader of opposition, he never proved to be good administrator, he was a public man, he remained in the public.

Totally agree with having a better "non Jat PM" than an inferior jat PM. BTW i think even Ch. Charan singh was not known for anything other than opportunist (for PM), a mass leader but never gave much to its masses (he could have done much more to western UP if not entire to Jat region - he didnt do it. Frankly speaking if we count his achievements it will finish before it starts. Ajit singh has ruined his legacy further.
I would rate a good Jat Sarpanch higher than a poor PM.

No doubt P.M. must be a good person whatever caste he belongs does not matter.....
But I feel Ch. Charan Singh was a great leader. He was in opposition of Pt. Nehru's policy for farmers and everybody in this world is opportunistic including you and me. What's harm in that??? It's human nature. Whatever he did for farmers in U.P. is superb.
He left the congress because his ideology was totally different to Pt. Nehru. That's why he suffered in his political career.
Some of the post he held during his political career:
Revenue Minister U. P.(1952)
Chief Minister U. P. (1967)
Deputy P.M. and Home minister(after emergency)
P.M.(1979), only for one year

Achievements are not about counting. It's about the quality of work. It may be possible that he didn't have that much achievements in no. but what ever he did is incomparable.
He was stronger supporter of Zamindra Abolition. Even he had written book on it. He played a big role in implementing Land Holding Act 1960(biggest achievement). BY this act, not only jats but all poor farmers benefited. Law changes the life of farmer community which includes huge no. of jats. He was one of the leaders who worked at grass root level. It's the result of his works that Ajit Singh is still winning elections.

I don't know what else you expect from a leader in the era of Pt. Nehru and Smt. Indra. We should feel proud that our community has produced such a great leader.

Let us make a list of Indian Pms and see how great they all have been;

1. Pt. Nehru.... No doubt great man and great PM
2. Shastri........... great man and great PM
3. Mrs Gandhi...... great on external front but ruined the nation internally
4. Morar Ji Desai... Does any one know what all he did?
5. Ch Charan Singh... did not last long enough to leave any impact as PM
6. Rajiv Gandhi......... great PM in my view
7. VP Singh.... total disaster
8. Chandra Shekhar.......... Totally ineffective
9. I.K. Gujaral....... Do people remember he was PM?
10. Dev Gauda........... sleeping and snoaring most of the time
11. PV Narshimha Rao..... too some bold steps on economic front
12. Vajpayee......... I wonder if he did anything worth remembering
13. Man Mohan Singh.... fairly good PM

If we look at all the PMs India had, Ch Charan Singh was batter than many even if he did not occupy the post for long enough. Like Devi Lal he too made the mistake of letting the PM's post slip to Morar Ji Desai in 1977. He won't the elections but lost the game of politics... His life time contribution for the farming community has been more than anyone in modern India. He gave political voice to the communities like Yadav, Kurmis and many others. Lalus, Mulayam. Chautalas are the products of his efforts at political front.

This is disgraceful and I strongly object to it. Get above this limited vision and mindset please.

Ofcourse you have your rights to object. Vajpayee went to Lahore and brought Kargil in return. Parliament was attacked in his time, Terrorist were sent to Kandhar under his PM ship.. and still he wants to be called a great PM? I will like to know what all great things he did apart from talking big?

If sense of pride is sole thing to look for Jat PM....I will feel more "proud" to have "Honest and progressive non Jat PM" than having "corrupt or dull Jat PM" :rock :rock .........afterall poorey Desh ka sawaal hai !! Har cheez mein jaat-paat ko badhaawa mat do. Kuchh in sab se uper ooth kar bhi socho.... desh ki socho...PM is made for entire country and not for a specific community to feel proud of.

Btw... next 10 years seem to be booked ..... 5 for Manmohan and next 5 for yuvraaj Rahul..... uske baad kuchh ho sakta hai ....... tab tak to Sikh aur Kashmiri panditon ko sense of pride lene do....aur ho sakey to khud bhi proud feel karo.. :rock

Waise bhi agle 10 saal mein Haryana ke bahut se jat leader boodhey ho chuke hongey....... kayi to raam ne pyaarey bhi ho chuke hongey :rock

to bhai ja kisi baaman , baniye se kara le tera or desh bhala ...... issi niti ke chalte sabse bada vote bank hote huey bhi rajasthan main JAT CM nahi bana ibbluk.... bhai mere reservation kisi leader ne nahi diya tha tujhe.... jat communtiy or JAt leaders ke bal bootte par hi mila tha.... chahey Jat dunaia ke liye...corrupt ho par jat jat ke liye to sochega..... or sochne layak banana hamara(Jat community) kaam hai..... or jatism ke bina yeh impossible hai .....
Rahi baat ch.charan singh saab ki..... wo to adweteeya hain ....or mujhe sharam aati hai ki jis communtiy ke liye wo lade...wahi un ko criticize karne main koi kasar nahi chhod rahe aaj.... main to ek hi baat kahunga... HUDA ..chautala.... to un se compersion ke layak bhi nahi hain... ch.charan singh ek kissan leader the or kissano(JAT) ke liye...kissan reahte hi bhagwaan ko pyare ho gaye..... Agar wo bhi agar jatton ko bhula dete or yahi karte jo sab ne kiya (indera, atal etc etc)to shayad tum log unhe respect dete....:mad:

bhai bachpan main tune kai kahaniya padhi hongi unity ki importance ko lekar..... kahan Kho diya sara......... inshort ...for the development of any community first and foremost thing is, that community should be united...... bhai jib lakkad bhai hoga..jibja hi saare sunege apni or gel kahenge ram ram ......

  • Vajpayee turned a party backed by RSS and only being known and recognised as and by hindus in a full fledged national party. At least BJP gives an alternative and turns india into a bi-polity. No body (else than those who believe that they are born to be ruled by Congress or those who believe that next to God are Gandhi's) can deny the role of opposition in a democracy.
  • Vajpayee was bold and courageous enough to talk to Pakistan and make efforts to get peace. At least he did something rather than saying : ohh if this happens next time , i will pinch you ( that is so funny!). By the way when is Congress/Gandhi family planning to start a war against Pakistan to take Kargil revenge? Any plans in the near future? I am guessing all these news of more bombing and shelling on the border because the militants are trying to get to the mountain tops in winters ( ~ to what they did in Kargil )when they actually should go down are rumours! You have any further color for us?
  • Vajpayee govt. had the vision to move away from Russia and look towards the future and strengthen ties with US and Nato countries ; 8 rounds of talks between Talbott and Jaswant Singh; because we are living in a global world and cold war had ended long ago. I can imagine Congres not doing that , legacy issues i guess! After all it is about the family more than anything else , how can they revert on something their elders did ,that would sound like a back step , would not it ?
  • Infrastructure development , look aroundandd in Delhi, Sheela dixit govt. is staying there for last 3 terms and one of the reasons is the infrastructure devt , people do not get that much of it is actually the Central govt. Road and Highways are a norm today and BJP pushed it with all means.
  • India Shining , though was a failed campaign but India did shine in the big cities and urban areas , I agree it did not reach to the lowest of strata of society , but it takes time to reach to the bottom. Pro-people is always not pro-nation. Basic theories of development will tell us that no big push can be made if people are not willing to sacrifice. Who does not understand the importance of planning and savings? Do not you save money or sacrifice present day comforts because you want to haeva better future for yourself , your children? Congress has always been a pro-people party and that limits their vision , they an correct and "fix" things but that does not make you evolve and get stronger.
Vajpayee is a person of grace and deserves respect. He was not born with the last name Gandhi and reachd the highest levels. His life itself is an epitome of democracy and gives one courage and motivation to venture into politics. Let's not demean a person just because one has particular belief. In his own typical way : " Yeh achi baat nahi hai! "

In a land off 100 crores of people , there are bound to be differences in views , expectations , ways of working , but that simply does not call for disrespect to others and only considering one's own beliefs and views as sacroscant. I am not a BJP worker , neither do I have affiliations with any political party , nor I am totally in favour and ways of working of BJP's ideaology. I also do not have anything against Congress in particular. I will be honoured to support and appreciate any good deed irrespective of party and I expect the same!

Thank you,

Leel-2 .....cool down brother......You need not write this much. Even author knows that Vajpayee was a great PM..... but only problem is that Sh Vajpayee ji did not belong to "Gandhi" family. :rock :rock :rock

Author thinks that Vajpayee invited all terrorists to attack India. If that is the case that so did Dr Manmohan Singh... invited them to 5 star hotels like Taj Mumbai...... bateu ki dhaal khaatirdaari khatir.... :)

Dear Members,
It is an interesting discussion, where one can easily see the party loyalties dictating the perception. First of all, anyone who became the PM had one great quality, and that is to be at least “Bad among the Worst” available at that time, of "best among the good", whatever way you think.
Most of the PMs did fairly good job in patches, and that has a lot to do with not only internal environment, but also international relations prevailing during their period. It would be extremely difficult to judge anyone of these leaders with one single event. They did something good to the lead up to the job of PM, but the true test was when they actually occupied the chair. In most cases the national interests took the back seat in front of the party and personal gains. For some it was battle for survival, and for some probably to make fortunes for their family, friends and parties if not for themselves. Volumes can be written on this subject, but I will restrict to limited instances where the greatness of the leaders can be easily questioned. Dr. Ram Kumar ji have mentioned about Mr. Vajpai, bringing back Kargil, and Kandhar but has hailed Mr. Nehru who brought the Kashmir Problem, as well as the national shame during Chienese Conflict, and Mr. Manmohan Singh bringing Mumbai Attacks. There are many issues those could be attributed now to Mr. Nehru’s tenure for the situation that we are in today. But then anyone else in his place might have done even worst.
Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji did a great job to try and bring green revolution, and 1965 war, but he lost every thing including his own life at Tashkand. It is hard to believe anyone can give back Hazipir Pass, that is strategically so important, and was captured after a lot of loss of life.
Mrs. Indira Gandhi was probably the one “Mard” PM we had, but then she brought in corruption, crime and leader worshiping culture in the politics. She started of well, to nationalize the banks, devaluing the rupee to ease the international economic pressure, but then succumbed to the socialistic policies started by Mr. Nehru. She did great in 1971 war, but brought the emergency which eventually led to her downfall.
Ch. Charan Singh was a great CM of UP, and so was Mr. V P Singh. But both failed miserably at the National level. We might give blame to the entire world, but with 116 MP’s with him, he did not face the vote of confidence while Chandrashekhar could do it with 30 odd MPs. At the national level, one needs to have exceptional diplomatic skills and sophistication to weather the opposition. We really don’t know how he would have fared as PM at the international level. While we might take pride in claiming that a Jat addressed the nation from the “Red Fort” the truth is that he still remained the care taker PM. I am not sure, how it will go down in the historical records. His achievements leading to the day of addressing the nation from the Red Fort are exceptional, but then what after that?
I would not waste my time in discussing Mr. V P Singh, for he probably is one PM whom people hate. He did exceptionally well till the time he became the PM, and all credit must go to him. He came with a clean image, but got lost in Bofors controversy, and to keep the fragmented third front intact, he touched the Mondol commission. In fact that led to the clear division of society, which is the worst thing a nation can afford. Mr. Devegowada, Mr. Chandrasekhar and Mr. I K Gujral had their time in just trying to survive. Of the three, I think Mr. Gujaral was better.
I think real nation building started in the time of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, but was actually implemented in the time of Mr. Narsimha Rao. A good leader should be able to pick the right man for the right job, and that is what he did. And by hook or crook, he survived the full term, and saved the nation in those critical economic days, from the expenditure on mid-term elections. Mr. Vajpai carried a clean image, and in spite of Kargil, Kandhar, attack on Parliament, he survived the full term and even though under pressure both from Sangh Parivar, Oppostion and the coalition partners, he continued the efforts of Mr. Rao, and further helped the economy to strengthen.
Many people say a lot of praises for Dr. Man Mohan Singh, and he is doing a great job, but the same people while criticizing Mr. Vajpai for attack on Parliament failed to mention of Mumbai Attack and other several attack all over the country during his term. Are we not having double standards?
I think I shall close my post now, for a lot can be written on the issue. My sincere request once again to the members would be, “Let us be fair and just, and not prejudice our discussion, due to party, and caste loyalties”. We are all Indians, and should remain Indians first and any thing else afterward.

Sense of pride... Is that not enough?

RK^2

Why we feel proud about Chaodhry Chrana Singh?
Isn’t it enough that he was, a Jat, a farmer to reach to that level?
Is itn't it enough that he always thought, worked and wrote (All the three books he has written about rural economy and farming) about farmers?
Isn’t it enough that he brought a bill as early as in 1938 that was to ensue and safeguard the rights of the farmers? This was gradually implemented through India and Punjab (Haryana too as it was part of Punjab) was the first to pass and implement the Bill.
As a Revenue Minister, he initiated and pushed to implement the Land Reforms and abolition of Zamidari Act.
He always fought for the rights of the farmers and at one stage opposed Nehru’s ideology and put his political career at stake.
I always feel that a political leader’s greatest contribution could be judged with measuring the immeasurable impact of his or her sincerity.
A leader’s Sincerity can be viewed in his political decisions and actions.
He parted ways with Nehru and Congress because he felt that Nehru’s Vision of Socialistic state based on Russian Model wasn’t suitable for Indian conditions.
He was of the opinion that Cooperative farms wouldn’t succeed in India. Being a son of a farmer, Ch.Charan Singh opined that right of ownership was very important to the farmer in remaining a cultivator.

Cheers!

I feel he is not the first one to go to Pakistan and brought the war intentionally and I think we all should appreciate the way he handled the kargil conflict, stating clearly to the world that war will be stopped once everyinch of prewar will be achieved. The whole world appreciated the way India handled the kargil conflict and that was the first time USA appreciated India and put pressure on pakistan.

2. Terrorist were released to save the life of 180 people--I think they made a mistake but media had a big role to play (everyone know what they were doing) I think you forget the release of terrorist in lieu of daughter of Congress Cabinet Minister (I don't remember exactly but I think it was some Safudeen soz)

3. still he wants to be called a great PM? --> Sir I think he never showed the superiority being a PM and to be called a great PM. if you look at those qualities rationally you will find them in Mrs Indira Gandhi and aala caaman after that. --> creation of Congress (I)

4. How about the Jawaharlal Nehru love for China (hindi-chini bhai bhai) resulting in war and then resulting in invasion of some part of Bharat, still to be taken even Mansarovar is with China now.

5. Parliament attack --> Being Jat I think he missed an oppurtunity to put Pakistan on defensive but on the other hand our country was doing great economically and a war would have been scrapped us.

I am sure you have not missed the Mumbai attack live all over the world for ...days, remember that padmashree Barkha Dutt helping terrorists giving updates.

What about your views on INCOMPLETE partition, INCOMPLETE WAR in 1947 and what about winning a war of 1971 and still loosing it(Shimla accord)

What do you think about Pokran II did anyone after Indira had guts testing Nuclear bombs, Nuclear treaty of US-India is done by current PM but it is a by product of previous PM.

I feel the current govt is just carryforwarding the work from the previous govt. like the previous govt took it from PV Narshimha Rao.
