Jat history conference- Surajmal Institute, New Delhi Dec 6, 2009

Thanks to Dr. Rana, Dr. S.P.Singh, Dr Vir Singh, and Narendra Kharb, we had a Jat history conference on December 6, 2009. There were about 25 attendees.

I was on a short trip to India, and Narendra was kind enough to take the initiative to organize a meet at short notice.

Some of the notables apart for Dr S P Singh and Dr Vir Singh, were Dr Baliyan, Dr Dharmpal Vidyalankar, Dr Rawat, and Shri Hawa Singh Sangwan to name a few. A full list will be uploaded soon.

It was short meeting , and there was not enough time for people to present papers.

The enthusiasm to write more and more about the history of the Jats was very evident in the participants. Many people were planning to or were in the process of writing a history of their clans.

What emerged as a key thought was the need for a scientifically structured approach to the study of the history of our people.

For work done by the Surajmal Institute and the quiet unsung heros, who have dedicated their lives to bring the Institute and the research department to this point, no praise is enough.

DR S P Singh announced the creation of two schools , in Bikaner, and the other in U.P. The Institute goal was to open a school in each district.

This is indeed a noble objective and will do much to alleviate the lack of good education facilities in rural areas.

The need for an expanded research department and a chair in a university was also discussed. We also the discussed the need for scholarships for those who study Jat History.

One of our goals, here has been to propagate knowledge of our history, as widely as possible.

With initiatives like this we can se this happening.

The Jatland membership list is now over 15,000 strong.

We all need to consider how we support such noble initiatives.

Best regards

Jat - the rem origins, history, etymology etc.

Ravi ji,
Congratulations to you for ensuring the holding of a conference on Jat history. I missed you in the current thread for quite some time. At times I feel very dismayed sometimes to find several well meaning persons quite casual about serious issues of history. But every time your very patient posture gives me lot of encouragement to continue to chip in wherever I can. I am attempting a review of B.S.Dahiya's book. Laxman ji was kind enough to accommodate me on a review page of my own. The is also given under the table of contents of the book.
Regards

Ravi ji, appreciable initiative. We should frame the points how the site members can be involved in this.

Rana ji, its time to carry this forward and not leave it in dismay. Loosers will be us in that case.

mr Ravi good initiative, but fronkly speaking out come seems to be very less because what little I know some of us &a long experience of mine on such matters, forced me to comment that most of us make use of such gettogethrs for self publicity nothing else, also most of us donot allow right people to come forward for the cause. Any way we are always for the community benifit without any politics. regards

Jitender Ji,
Thanks for your kind sentiments.I find myself in an assuring environment when I find that there are people on the forum who think alike or are able to connect for a productive discourse on an issue which had not received sufficient critical attention from those who are immediately concerned. We from within the community have the onerous task of holding in balance the double edged sword of history which, if wrongly hurled, can do enormous damage to our own cause in stead of bringing to end our perceived adversaries.
As you know our ancient recods are rreplete with descriptions of various components of our community in the names of clans and groups of clans (ganas).Study of this material is the key to trace our streams and their course till they meet the common waters. But the natural desire to trace a hoary past many from amongst us have ventured out, as ameteur historians, with the term 'jat' in our armour trying to imagine its presence in almost every thing and every where in the ancient world. In the process we have landed ourseves into a plethora of contradictions and paradoxes at times being on the wrong side of chronology, taken to be the backbone of history.Thank you once again for giving me this occasion to write.

Ravi Chaudhary

Can you please explain the line........ a key thought was the need for a scientifically structured approach to the study of the history of our people.
And what the steps that are proposed for this scientific approach???

Vivek and others

What I am referring to is the scientific approach taken by researcher.

Objective:

Theory outline.

Collective of facts/evidence.

Postulation of theory.

Consideration of secondary data.

Research into and consideration of primary data.

Data is our case will come from other authors/ researchers.

Draft publication of paper/book.

Review of paper/ book by other peers.

Publication of paper/book.

We have too much work coming out, that a brief read creates a sinking feeling in stomach, as flowery theories are passed off as fact, and quotes of some colonial writer and his /her speculations are also passed off as fact.

This sort of structure is what we are all trying to encourage.

Naturally as this is a community effort, everyone’s input is welcome, even though they may not consider themselves to be a linguist, archeologist, or an historian.

Please participate.

Bets regards
