have written similar threads before. (these points apply to me too)

1. we need to learn not to be rude.
2. we often talk very bad about other communities to our kids especially punjabis, baniyas and sikhs. inciting hatred in them.my best friends are punjabi who have always been there for me, my baniya friend helped me getting TATA sponsorship bcoz of which my major expedition was a success. i would rather not be called a jat than being disrespectful to others.
3.where children are involved we need to believe in encouragement and not criticism. criticism in 90% cases is an output of our own frustration.
4.Jats give in to ego and jealousy very quickly. We should understand that we should let every one work, do our bit and encourage others too then only the society will progress.

I am proud of being a Jat and my origin as my ancestors were farmers who used to work in the heat, rain and cold in the fields and who used to join the armies to defend against invaders.

Being Jat is no achievement of mine if i cannot bring good name to the community, society and country.
Being a Jat doesnot mean belonging to a superior/inferior race.
Why i identify as a Jat and why Jatland is because i am proud of my origin and i want to do whatever small and little for the welfare of rural society from where i and most of us come.

We find satisfaction in thinking that other communities hate us but have we done anything worthy of deserving love and respect. We dont get love and respect till we give love and respect.

Per Shri Maan ji ...

It happens in every cast .. I mean Criticizing other casts !!
Ub humari boli ( I mean Haryanvi ) hi aisi hai ki at times hum rude lagte hain

we can improve only if we look at our own mistakes and not if we point fingers at others.
justifying our mistakes and shortcomings will not help us
agar hamari language me gaaliyon ka istemaal jyaada hai to kya ye achchhi baat hai?

dusre ki achhai se seekho aur apni buraai duur karo

request, dont look at this post with ego

Rightly said Navin...

We should emphasize and retain the best of our commmunity and should work on our shortcomings. Like any other community we too have problems but if we really are keen to be better... then their is lot more for us to think and do....

Although its not easy to make people understand that you are pointing at the shortcomings in order to overcome them and not to make them feel inferior.
Even I m proud of the house, village and community i belong to ....... but the moment you raise your voice against the area which need improvment ....you are often being mistaken as someone against the community.......and ultimately out of frustration you end up saying some un-intentional sentences which you really do not mean.....Thats my personal experience....So at times one need to be more balanced and diplomatic in handling these situations.
But what ultimately matter is the betterment of the community and society...and not the personal opinions.
So lets work for it positively at whatever level we can...

Our biggest problem....

1. Typical JAT attitude of not accepting anyone better than themselves.
2. An air of INVINCIBILITY that is inherited, generation after generation. Apne te bada kise ne sochte e na. Same here.
3. RELUCTANCE to take up business and restricting to only 'Fauj', 'Police', 'Haryana Roadways', 'DTC', 'Bijli Daftar' etc.
4. A sense of SHAME in starting small ventures, shops etc. Why? Log ke kahenge, ke phalane ka potaa susra dukan kar rhya se.
5. Unwilling to accept or should I say tolerate the success even within own community. Hogs susra DC apne ghar mein!!
6. Failure to IMBIBE positives of others experiences, even in farming.
7. Not accepting anyone as a LEADER. Saare leader hain.
8. ABANDONMENT of villages by all those who shifted to towns. Of course they only return to take their share of sale proceeds and give lectures.
9. A basic hatred towards JATS by Brahmins, Banias & SCs.
10. INABILITY to become a single votebank. Har ek gaam mein kam se kam teen, char gut sein.
11. Not educating and trusting daughters. Ke kare gi padh ke, agle saal byah dein ge.

Note: This had been posted earliertoo.

JS Malik

shashi
yes, thats my intention. i want that we (i am including myself) learn. i want that one day Jat community should be known for good things like unity, good behavior, compassion, progressive, broadminded

like i say, i have lot of respect for sikh community for their discipline, unity. even the richest person will go to gurudwara and sweep and clean, serve food, wash utensils.

same way, i want that one day other community people should praise our community and society. then only we will be worth it.

Respected Jagmohan sir,
yes, sir, these are the points and more.
"the biggest battle we fight is with ourselves." if we cant win ourself we cannot expect to win over others.
we have to believe in constructive self-criticism.
Right now people are falling only in two categories
1. either they talk very bad about own community
2. or they feel everything is right and to good with the community.
both viewpoints should be avoided.

Navin Ji. I am deeply impressed by your views to analyse ourselve. Each of us has this capabilty to improve as a human being in all respects. We have to accept ourselves the way we are .

Let me not call myself the best if I sustain indiscipline, aggression, anger and impatience etc. towards any aspect.

Mere badon ne hamesha ek hi baat sikhayi " falon se lada ped hamesha jhuka hua hota hai" OR The tree with plenty of fruit on it, always bows down!

Best Regards!

Cheers!

I wish not to participate in these kinda discussions any more because so much has been written on this subject on this portal and else where in the history about the Character and capabilities of our blood and having gone through the diverse thoughts expressed and my own LIVE interaction with the essence of Jat community,i am of the opinion that changing the Basics is a impossible task like we can't change the habits of Dogs and other animals[we could not make them something else in last crores of years]...what we can however do is that we can REFINE them....we can improve their living habits,we can teach them to obey good things,we can motivate them to use more cleaner surroundings,to understand the meaning of education and pay attention to that....!But If we feel that We can ask JATS not to do all those things which they had been naturally doing for thousands of years []on pressing of a switch] then we are not only illiterate but also unrealistic and immature in our approach. Also criticism is no treatment for those cosmetic repairs as well.

Not withstanding the above said,Motivation to do any single thing for other's welfare stams from within. From where did Bhagat Sing,Rajguru and thousands like them, who laid their lives for the we the mortals of nation, find the confidence to do what they have done?Long back i watched the TV campaign.." The power of One",which i hope some of you might also be recalling. The short film showed many clippings of people doing something or the other alone. In one of such slides of the film,a lone protestor stands in front of a battle tank, blocking its way from proceeding ahead. What could motivate to do such a foolish thing, putting one's life at such a moral risk?I thought and thought on the subject matter and after a lots of deliberations and churning realised that it has to be AN ASSURANCE FROM WITHIN and OFCOURSE SELF-ESTEEM of that indvidual. If an indvidual feels that he is strong, then he/she actually is...and no certificate or false appriciations are needed from any quarters to substantiate the Truth.Similarly if we have strength to do something,we can surely do it and NOTHING can demotivate us or stop us.Outside obstructions can only delay the success for a while but Can never PREVENT it.....and that is what the self-esteem is all about.

Life is not like those movies, where the hero, portraying a macho image displayes total confidence all through the movie. In real life,we all have our sets of weaknesses..Be it JATS,RAJPUTS,SIKHS,MUSLIMS...or anyone for that matter. We all have our limitations and boundaries too, which stop us from being confident at all times and in every situation. And when that is the truth,Fears of various kind will surround us each moment and that is the most important question to be adressed in any given situation.

Let us co-relate that fear here with the situation we all/some are in.We want to do charity to kind of people who have thousands of ills associated with them since ages and they still want to sit over them unto their peril...I am talking of our own JATS folks!

If i have to take things forward from a situation of such a hopelessness[as we have projected it to be that way] in three steps....ie..FACE THE FEAR.........QUESTION THE FEAR.......and finally....ACCEPT THE FEAR.

In first instance i am ready to face that, what i am affraid of[That jats won't listen to me]...because i find it just a mental block existing in our minds crated due to our past experience or habit of accepting things without trying. So i am ready to push those fears out of my mind FORCEFULLY.If darkness haunts me,i might as well go and stand in the dark as often as i can and would watch for my reaction till i find a treatment for fear of darkness.

Now not all fears can be faced like one above as all fears may not be as simple or just a concoctions weaved by our minds, but may have some tinge of grave truth attached to them as well. Here i would ask myself as to what worst can happen to me if i undertake this journey and the fear comes true and that will i be able to cope with it....now this is nothing but a balanced and realistic view of the complicated situation. Here i have to prepare myself for the worst likely outcome.

I am of the firm belief that there is nothing in this world which i can not survive.I find all questions staring us in our face THE GATEWAY to the answers we need. What we need thus is an HONEST...VERY HONEST approach with a undying resolve to do a thing to the finish.

TO BE COND.......

Rightly conveyed Navin, I had started thread over the same issue.
I guess problem lies mostly in INSECURITY. I dnt know but these issues of ego, jealousy or pseudo-pride are related with a sense of being insecure from other communities. Some attributes of them make us feel inferior somehow and we tend to show it through cock-tail of aggressiveness. This approach has social-conditioned the image of JAT as rude n raw, deep down which is not exisiting. We hate to mix with people on some level with the sense of being judged. This problem has become major in last 20-30 years otherwise earlier in times of our grandparents, JATs were taken as mastmaula and straighforward.

You people are mature enough to point out the root and work in your own related areas.I have done it and doing in my circle.:)

from an angry, irritable, unaccepting young man to a more calm, composed and more willing to accept my own mistake i think i have come a long way.

we maynot live to bring about a complete change but we can initiate it. Educated parents can make a lot of difference by what they impart to kids.

I also want to say 'everything' is not wrong with Jats. Jats have every reason to be proud of themselves. But we need to work on removing the evils/drawbacks then only we can progress further.

We should be willing to appreciate good qualities in others and other communities and learn.

"we should do whatever little good we can in whatever small ways we can"

Dev Sir, the excellent examples of 'power of one' you quoted happened when a single person says "i dont care whether i succeed or fail, i am going to die trying"

{the strong ego in jats is becoz the were always land owners and never ghulams}

its in our genes perhaps which make us straightforward and sometimes which sound rude too.sach waise bhi kadva hi hotta hai.but at the same time i like most about us is jo dikhte hai vo hote hai.its not only among us i know some of my friends whenver they see someone wearing some bright color they will say jatka rang pahn ke aayi hai and they call all illiterate person who r from villages jats.so its not just us its in every caste.but i am very proud to be a jat but do not look down upon anyother caste.i have so many friends who r punjabi baniya and sikhs.but this is fact most of sikhs are dill waale ,baniyas moneyminded but true friend ,punjabis to sweet to be true most of the times.

its my dream to see Jats as a progressive, respected community
arrogance can not get us respect, humility can
the enery we have used to till the land for ages should now be directd towards social reforms
1. Dowry abolition 2. Cleanliness 3. Education 4. Brotherhood and harmony 5. Respect for girl child 6. Community service

can arya samaj principles be used to achieve these, as arya samaj has a strong influence.

Every community has its strong points and draw backs but ultimately it is your community that you would it most cases relate to in marriage or social gathering. The main point you guys really miss is that we are as a community not correct about money and if you are not correct about money you cannot be correct about anything.

I have seen that we Jats in our sentimentalism would spend our money on relatives in a paternalistic fashion only for this to rebound and lead to acrimony when things go bad. We need to learn to balance the personal with the social like the other businees communities do and are successful. I have seen many leading rich jat families go down the drain due to this weakness.

Secondly learn that superiority is only an inferiority complex turned upside down. Look at human beings individually and learn that we all have our shortcomings but we need to see overall whether the person is good or bad and not concerntrate on a few short comings ands tart labelling people.

We have sacrifised a lot and we need to be proud as a community but the problem is when pride turns to arrogance it becomes counter productive. Remember Tulsi das " daya dharam ka mul hai or pap mul abhiman. Tulsi daya na chodhiye antherghat me pran.

I don't think you can put it any more accurately than what Naveen and Mr. Malik has done so in this thread. I would say that the most glaring of all these shortcomings is lack of cooperation among JATS. More often than not we are jealous of each other's success and not willing to help each other.

Related to this, I also find an annoying trend where the older people on jatland criticize the younger generation for everything. You cannot blame ALL young people for everything... whats with the blames, negativity, lack of respect?

encouragement motivates.
criticismin form of comments and taunts - demotivates.
i have no hesitaion in accepting that the generation coming ahead of me is more dynamic, intelligent and has the full potential for realising our dreams of a better society.
