Job(Service) or Business?

Hi,

This thread is just to know your views about Job or Business. What would you prefer whether to go for a job, private or govt, or to run own business and why? What about long term like right now in job but later will think about business, which one fascinates you more? If business then what kind of business? Anyone has any plan(dream) to start his/her own organization? Do you want to become another Ambani/Malya or just satisfied with ur present work?
Please share ur ideas and views here. And what are you doing for ur future plans?

Let me start from myself.

Righ now i am in a job as a software engineer in Bangalore but this is not what i am looking for. I consider this as a launching pad for me. My long term plans are to start an organization of my own, may be after 10 years or so. Till then i wud like earn some gud experience. I prefer to be in software line only. I have selected the name also for my org and font also...

Either that or u must invest in property or shares wisely, its harder now to do that then before because of all the competition.

My father always says that dont run after money or you'l never get it, just really love what you do, and the money will just flow, i think thats quite true.
My dream is to build a hospital and recruit specialists in all fields of medicine to work there and provide the best medical services we can offer, and ill be the boss

Well, ur dream is really gud and wish u all the best for that but i hope that hospital will serve humanity not only money

Here, what i said is not all money. I do believe not to run after money but my concern is what u want exactly? What fascinate u more? Is the present job what u r happy with or u want something else and big? When ur basic requirements are fulfilled hardly money matters then. If u earn INR 2,00,000 or 10,00,000 a month both are same as per me except the bank balance difference. U can get all that in 2,00,000 also but still u r not satisfied with ur work ... ufeel u can do better and in some other field.

Sometimes, i feel i cud be a gud hindi writer or a gud businessman, i d not why but i feel. I feel my present job is not what i am made for. I have some natural qualities which can make me successful in business.

This is what i want u guys to discuss. How u perceive such things ?

Its nice to know that you have some natural qualities to become a good businessman. Then why you want another 10 or more years to launch your business and want to be in a job???????? ( unless you are learning some rare selling skills or going to invent some thing new in the field of S/W)

If you do not mind can we discuss qualities and traits to be a good businessman? Hope then this thread could be a good lesson for budding Entrepreneurs.

In my opinion lack of experience or money should not be a constrain for a start-up. What do you think?

well, i believe i shud earn relevant exprience before starting business. I shall go for MBA also before that. Starting a business without experience is mere foolishness, i believe. One shud know what business is exactly and then impliment his creative and innovative ideas using his past experience in that. I am not talking abt starting some paani poori shop aur fruit theila. I am talking abt something big where i can use my skills acquired in past exp. Well there is no hard and fast rule that i shall start it after 10 yrs only, thats an estimation. I have my own plans of staying in the present job then higher study then exp in that job and if all goes good and if shall have enough capital then surely i shall give it a shot. I assume that time also there may be some mistakes and i shall learn from them but i can commit 'n' no of mistakes now and learn form them. Exp is also to mitigate the risks also to take better and healthy decisions.

Well, ur point is also gud to discuss abt qualities and traits required could be gud point to discuss but this thread is not meant only for business but also any kinda job including pharmacy, medicine, enginering, architecture, flight managemnt or even defence.

Waise all kinda thoughts are welcome.

On a more serious note , I do not buy your philosophy of taking 10 years ( or somewhere near ) for starting an entrepreneurial activity. 3-4 years in job is good enough. Though I am a born leader but not surely in business , and I also do not want to go into business , do not feel like it!

And for sure you do not need to be an MBa before starting something, all you need is to be sellable and a degree does not make you that. I am of the school of thought that MBA is to hide your shortcomings rather than an advancement thing-y unless done from institutions of very special status.

Well, Anil i do not say u guys r wrong here. Whether u go for MBA or not is all ur choice. I just want to refine and polish my skills. Secondly, that is my choice I want to go for that and that is personal choice. I do not encourage advices and interference in that. I do agree that Narayan Murti, Ambani, Malya and many of great business tycoons were not MBAs yet the most successful person on earth but still i feel that i require that training to polish my skills. Thirdly, i do not have a specific time frame ki i shall start it exactly after 10yrs. That is just an estimation and it may go before or after 10yrs also.

Suppose today if i am supported with initial capital today itself then also m not gonna start it. What i want to convey here is it requires some experience of the market and present business trend, if not for all then at least for me.

No worries DK It was a lil rough , anyways i am still right , i am not a person to interfere in any case. Good that you realised it yourself!

Teaching , well I am a very good teacher , I have taught several of my friends , I have noticed myself when I teach , I am very good at simplifying things , giving practical examples , giving analogies. So thats one and other reason is that I would surely like to give back the knowledge i earner , in a way share whatever i know

So an easy choice i guess. Many of my teachers did suggest me to go for Phd and then come back as a teacher , but that is not the way , though the destination is same.

And Devender i would like to say few things ... almost everyone .. (i writes almost so meant not all) who borns in HIndustan.. like to become an Businessman.. if they get chance,,,.... if u do an survey. n ask this question that if u suddenly get 2 crore what u would like to do.. i BET more than 98 % ppl will say u that they want to start something their own.. mean business... and Anil as a JAT we are born leader... everyone is a leader one way or other.... and everyone want to become an businesman... BUT.... to starts and business u have to be very risky...... and have to ready to loose and starts again... No one in this world starts any business with the thought that he/she will fail in this business... BUT how many ppl succeed????

its very very easy to say to do business but its not that easy once u starts... i have seen many ppl starts business and than they gone back to JOB.... because they are not risky... JOB is always very secure.. and other hand business is not secure at all...U have to be risky all the time if u want success in business... big example is Lehman brothers...

well normally i dont write much on jatland... i dont feel grt to write.. but i felt today n did...all i said on my personal experience...

and also Devender to do business we dont need any qualifications.... if u have courage.. all MBAs will work for u... but u need to sharper than MBA's without degree... once u starts the track u will see many ppl are like that.. these all degrees fail in front of them....

Thanks bhai saahb for ur kind reply and suggestion. U have written all practical things. Goin for MBA is not a requirement for business but its just my choice. I do not say i wont fail in the business, i will but i shall try to keep the same zeal and proceed with the failures.
I again say business is not just for money its about kind of work which gives u satisfaction. I wrote in some post if not business then a Hindi poet. I hope it clears that is not for money. That is what i feel but i may be wrong here. And yeah i said ki agar today i am given 50 crore INR then still i wont go for business. Money is not only thing which is required for business. You have mentioned courage/risk taking traits.

Most of the most successful/failures are those who take big risks. More is the risk more is the profit/loss. I am ready to take a big risk but wilh all preparations. If, still i fail then i accept that failure and shall give another shot and another and yet another one. Hope will be successful some day.

Bhai ji keep sharing ur views. They(ur thoughts and knowledge) may not give us a direct benefit but they certainly broder our visiblity and thoughts.

Its not only about being risky , its about when and how you take the risk.

The best one can do is to be in that kind of position but not in a position of liability in terms of money before starting any business. Observe your bosses , they way they function , where they failed , where they really excelled.

How do they manage their things , and what do you think is wrong ! When being an emplpyee you have the liberty of observing managers and also thinking about yourself and then make policiies which you think are best from both of the partie's viewpoints!

Same in Business all times Management/Business Gurus like Rusi Modi or Icoca know everything about business but they never became owner of a business.

Mindset is very important, Once one get mindset of business, he can not do job and after developing mindset of a employee/worker one can not become a master.
