Journey Time to and From Work Should count as working Time

Time taken to travel to and from work at the beginning and end of each day should count as working time under the law, according to the Europe's highest court.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that workers without a fixed office should be able to charge for the time such journeys last, whereas at present they are not allowed to do so.

Commuting / Relocation has very stringent employee friendly Policies in US .....Europe ka pata nahi.

IMO - commuting is employee personal thing ......employer should not count that working hours

Time is not far when we would ask for 4 times the wages we today earn in lieu of normal 8 hours work. In your formula Dr Rajpal, there can be a good number of anomalies such as distance to be commuted, means of commuters etc. But when 8X4=24 hours time is given on the presumption for the benefit of employer, say the employee was contemplating for the better interest of employer, how to improvise productivity etc. It will become justifiable demand of the employees and fertile striking idea for our "well-meaning" politicians.

Baseless apprehension !

This is not my formula and do not be afraid of wage earners if they demand a fair remuneration/compensation for the labour they put in at the beck and call of their employers even at odd hours.

The decision relates to those employees of European companies which have no fixed location for workers and supply workers by using means of communication with end users and the work force. The workers have to visit far off places and they have got their grievance redress through ECJ as mentioned in my first post.

This formulae is also in India in some MNC when a person go directly to client side instead of coming to office. Employee is paid based on distance from home to client location. European has gone through a lot of struggle and revolution in 16th /17th century and came out with best rule to run the country. All ideas like Pension, medical insurance , ppf , medical insurance , red cross, blood bank were started in Europe. In India only revolution was done by Sikh Religion and then by Sir. Chottu Ram in North when he fought against the bloody rules set by Local Indian Mahajans /Money lenders and rulers for their benefit.
 
Workers have got their due demands partially accepted by the employers throughout the world and continue their struggle for fulfillment of the remaining ones. The position of indian workers both in organised and unorganised sector remains pathetic even today in comparison to workers' position in Europe due to lack of organised and long drawn struggle by Indian labour class.

They have got some demands accepted but much more needs to be done to bring them at par with workers of the Western world. But when. is the moot question.
 
No united trade union movement has been witnessed in India due to various historic facts. There are a number of unions representing sectarian and political ends not the workers whom they are supposed to serve.

Moreover even today in unorganised sector, there is also vacuum of leadership among the workers which is eating away the vitals of their due rights !
