This is the need of hour. Demilitarize the valley can help and let people live freely.

LOL. If we were acting on needs of the hour, Kashmir valley would have been DeIslamacized long ago, and all others would have lived in peace.

A simple solution for demilitarization---whoever(rest of Indians) wants to settle in J&K, he/she should be freely allowed to buy properity and live happily in "dharatee ke swarg"/ Jannant.

A very good point my friend. This is the need of hour. Demilitarize the valley can help and let people live freely.

Yes, demilitarization, followed by a plebiscite/referendum is the only viable solution to solve the problem. All sides have to sit down and thresh out the finer details. They have to discuss and take into account all parties. Concerns of communities like the Pandits, Gujjars and others who are generally pro-India and may not wish an opening of the borders have to be addressed. The Pandits are indeed a special case. They have suffered a lot and their voice needs to be heard for the situation to return to normalcy.

I know such a strategy would raise further questions and tempers. But we have tried all other options and they haven't worked except temporary lulls. India should be for those who wish to stay with India. No point wasting time and effort on those who do not value the Union that is India.

Like we did with Pakistan & people wanted it and then lived peacefully forever with them as neighbors.

No right, left, center politician or political party can do this from either side. Trust me & save your energy.

The war is inevitable if religious angle is not removed from this Kashmir problem.

Right. We should allow referendum in each state of india and send them across who dont wish to stay here. But will so called secular parties allow it and will pakistan take them?

There will be anarchy if this happens.

Agreed. Its a risk hoping an independent Kashmir will be friendly with us. But its not exactly friendly with us now and is sucking our resources and lives dry. Plus, we never know which way our neighbors turn. We expected Bangladesh to be friendly but look at it now. SL wasn't supposed to be tricky but it cost us about a 1000 soldiers during IPKF and a PM.

Not really. I have a firm belief 90% wish to stay in India. Kashmir and maybe the North East could opt for a separate political entity but not the rest.

It's strategically so important for India that people can migrate if they like but land can't be given at any cost. I think talking about referendum does not make any sense. Because I hope everyone know the UN conditions for plebiscite as Pakistan is a party in dispute, It was directed to withdraw its army from Kashmir & northern Areas so that plebiscite could take place. Which never happened ? Let Pak withdraw Army & the situation gets sanitized & normalized then we can think about such options. KP's must be given justice and fair share of Kashmir they have very first right on that. So there are many measure which both countries have to take before talking about any referendum, plebiscite or solution. The proxy war , terrorism , religious persecution and bigotry will worsen situation of Kashmiri wanting Azaadi.

Dadagiri of a hostile neighbor born out of hatred towards India & her old civilization can not be tolerated.

It is a deadlock.

I think India should adopt the same strategy as Russia adopted in eastern Ukraine (Crimea). Open the Kashmir for every Indian then Let's see who demand for plebiscite.

Yes, agreed its a deadlock but that's how it has been for three decades now and its not getting better. India needs to develop economically and a festering Kashmir is like an iron ball and chain dragging us back. Wars have been fought and a lot of blood spilt because of this. Maybe its time to look at things practically.

As per the UN agreement both India and Pakistan are to recede to pre-1948 war boundaries. I think this aspect can be relooked into and both countries can withdraw from the Kashmir valley and PoK. Our forces can withdraw till Jammu to one side and Kargil to another. Pakis can withdraw till wherever the western boundaries of PoK lie. This way they can hold onto Gilgit, Baltistan and we can hold on to Jammu and Ladakh. Its only the valley that is problematic and both sides of Kashmiris can intermingle and decide. They can be given a 11 year period where they can be governed by a UN appointed governor for 1 year and then local elections can be held. After two terms, i.e. 11 years in total, a referendum can be held with three choices, India, Pakistan or independence.

A major stumbling block to this all will be Pakistan's Army. They are the real rulers and have to buy into this for it to be successful.

Peaceful existence is possible. Just need more people like this guy on their side.

It's high time for Pakistan to take some positive steps and leaving a space for negotiations.Stop proxies, infiltration, terrorism, training etc. Pakistanis ruined the stage, not only ISI & army but political establishment too. Here I want to show a message of Late Benazir Bhutto. She used to say " The people of Kashmir do not fear death because they are muslims" . This word muslim ruined & will ruin thier future. :tears_of_joy: They have to seperate it from Kashmiriat first. I do not need to tell about Zia & others. I hope intellects know about them.

Then Kashmiri muslims should welcome KP's with red carpet and avoid showing flags of ISIS & AQ. Otherwise the gunning down of teenagers is nt a practice by army as showing ISIS flags by few muslims in Kashmir & both can be ignored.

We can't give an inch of land becasue of religion already approx 1000,000 sq km is given for Islam.

See the proof of terrorism & suffering of compatriots. Can we give a land for plebiscite to them ? lolz

PS : Gilgit-Baltistan no way Pakistani Army should hold in condition of plebiscite. I love Nanga Parbat, Karakoram, Hindu Kush, Baltoro Glacier & is home to 5 eight thousanders.

Demilitarization would mean opening floodgates for the ISI trained militants from across the border. Why military can not be deployed on any part of India. Kashmir is integral part of India and the Union of India has every right to deploy its forces anywhere it deems necessary for the sake of national security.

Why delay now? God has created the atmosphere. No history of flood in Kashmir in recent decades and as soon as Modi became PM, there was flood. Pakistan failed to give sufficient aid to PoK people, while India succeeded in giving sufficient aid to its people. As a result PoK people want to merge in India. So why delay now?

Pakistan isn't going to heed our threats or requests. None of our pressures have worked. We need to think differently.

We can be emotional about it and continue with the status quo or look at things in a more practical and far sighted manner. I have a feeling that just like Vajpayee, Modi will look at a permanent solution to the Kashmir problem along similar lines if his initial years go well.

Long term military deployment isn't good for either the military or the population. And infiltration isn't 100% controlled even now.

The first right on the land is of the people living there i.e. the Kashmiris and in a democracy they should be allowed to exercise the right to determine their future provided it doesn't destroy the life/livelihood of anybody else. The union, me/you can claim that land as well but we cant supercede the right of the people living there. As an analogy, that's true for tribals living in forest lands as well.

In theory yes. In practice NO. Such simple approach solve one issue and bring up many more to complicate the future. Like division of India solved one problem but created so many others which are much more complicated than the original one. In my view the best solution will be to address Kashmir issue within present national geographic constraints. Wish of few millions can not be allowed to damage the wishes of billions.

permanent solution for Pakistan is to hand over Kashmir to them and nothing less. I don't think any India leader will ever be able to deliver that.
