No solution - only compromise...
Dear All,
The chance to find a solution to the Kashmir Problem was lost in 1948 when the great Pt Nehru agreed to a ceasefire ignoring the pleas of General Kariappa and the Indian Army. Now all we as citizens ‘HOPE’ for is a compromise, a compromise that hopefully leaves the rest of the country in one piece. I have absolutely no hope or even expectation from the present dispensation or even the future one, for the simple reason that I can’t think of even one problem that these people have solved since independence. Seriously, I urge people to start giving a very serious thought to what I have just said. Name one problem these politicians have solved, except of course solving their own financial worries.
I thought a nation as large as ours should be talikng about taking back our lost territories from Pak and China. But today I have my doubts. The polity of this nation is incapable of doing so. They have even stopped discussing it in public domain. And the so called ‘Track 2 Diplomacy’ is nothing but post retirement benefit congregation of individuals who were otherwise a failure while in service.
In this very forum in 2004, I had listed as to why India will find it problematic to become a superpower in the true sense of the word. Let me cut-paste the points. What I feel today is written in brackets:
(a) Kashmir Issue and the growing trend of sub nationalistic separatist demands. (Since then over 200 districts affected by Naxal Violence and counting. Even farmers around Delhi one day will pick up arms – mark my words).
(b) Communal disharmony and caste divide. (Growing by the day)
(c) Increasing gap between Rich and Poor. (Too obvious to be ignored)
(d) Growing number of displaced people due to reasons of development. (Commonwealth Games has brought in over quarter of a million labor in New Delhi, and they won’t go back)
(e) AIDS. (Dengue, Malaria and Malnutrition thrive)
(f) Discredited polity and corrupt politicians. (Now they have started saying that the amount involved is less than ‘The other scam’ – Wa re sher ke bachcho, kha jyao is desh ne).
(g) Lack of basic amenities; Water, Health, Education & Shelter. (You can add few more; rotten grain, suicides, poor standards of construction etc)
(h) Absence of a Leader who can inspire confidence. (Kitne ak din bachh re hain ‘Kalyug’ ke?)
There is only one solution to the Kashmir Problem. We have to first build bridges with the JATS of Pakistan. The initiative would have to be taken by JATS - across religions. And the initiative should be to rediscover the 'Bahichara' that JATS had with all communities and religions. Let us stop feeling happy when millions of Pakistanis suffer the ravages of floods or terrorists attacks. If you read between the lines the people who suffer the maximum in Pakistan are JATS. Only the wordly wise JATS can sit and discuss with them all the problems in the world. Only we know how to make strangers feel at home.
I appeal to the JATLAND administrators to throw open this site to Pakistani JATS. Jab tak JAT bol batlaa nahin leingein, kisi samasyaa ka koi hal nahin niklega...
Best regards,
JS Malik
