Yes...I too have been kind of thinking the same about targetting a specific clientele!... (and at the end of the day it's not only targetting Architectural people, but all kind of Planners and planning related individuals!...)

Here is one to give you an idea of what I have been doing recently...
This cartoon was a satire aimed at the never ending Romance that Americans have with their Cars and anything related to it! (at the cost of giving up Design of Architecturally good looking homes!)...

[A realtor 'trying' to appeal to a couple's sensibilities who are out to buy a New home for themselves!]

Very cool toon hooda... which kind of pencil(or charcoal) you use?
Do you suggest any basic book on sketching for dummies?
What are side effects of learning cartoon sketching?:-))

vinod
PS: aur yaar tu apni photu bahut badlata hai... mere khayal se ye the one with biceps is better:-)... esko dekh ke to bade-badon ki aage se gilli, peeche se pilli ho jayegi....

What kind of Pencil? Hmmm...kuch bhi jo haat lag jaye bhai!!!
You see the pencil is only there for the conceptual part. I usually start off by doing a quick sketch in pencil first which is very rough and scribbly (but you see is helping me pan out and include all the things I wanna have inside the frame, however rough and hazy), and then give it a go over and finalize it with a black pen (and erase out the extra pencil markings once I am sure the ink is dry)...That way the final sketch is of course in black ink(simple pen and ink; felt pens, graphic pens...whatever I can get my hands on. But basically Black ink color)

I prefer the Black and white style of Cartoons more, but in some cases like the Indian-Express newspaper cartoons you saw that were in color; I then have to scan the black and white drawing into the computer and then add the required colors in there using phot-editing programmes like 'Photoshop'.

About Books: There are books I have come across on aisles in bookstores, but I am not sure how useful can they be....I am sure a little interest to learn and take it to the next level definitely helps when refering to such books. But I can look into it and hopefully get you some names etc. for next time....

Side effects? Well yeah... getting run after by dudes that hated what you did to them in the graphical form!!! [I could tell you horror, 'but-oh-so-satisfyingly-terrible' stories from my school/college days! LOL :D )...

As one guy put it recently to me,"Shail man you are dangerous...!" Heh! Heh! ;)
...And what else on other 'side effects'....oh yeah, of course as I mentioned before, be sensible and don't try the 'cartoon' style to impress the ladies...trust me, they wouldn't be! [Don't be mislead with that sweet smile saying,"Oh that's niceeeee...I like it!" :o ,Chances are she is wishing you were dead and buried as of that moment! ]

Shailendra, I think its a brilliant idea to start a tutorial thread ‘How to…” explaining the basics and the tips to get started about sketching etc. Though I used to paint (and not flaunting here but just to share with you guys…your truly have won lots of “Camel” painting competitions etc….forgot the exact name …but it was llllloooooonnng back.. :) ) but was never into cartooning or sketching. So would be interested in learning from our Jatland sketch guru…

Don't want to be doing "Wah. wah" all the time, but I gotta say these are really
good. I loved the simplicity yet very pervasiveness of the message in this one.
