I am with Vipin , Rakesh and Raka Bhai!
The fact that, there is no temple in my village, inhibited by about 3500 families and predominantly a Jat village .It belies the contention of Upender bhai regarding rituals performed at the time of marriage. Also, I don’t remember a single incident during my early 15 years that I spent in my village, a Jat bringing ‘kavar’
It is beyond any doubt that the word Hindu does not connote Religion alone. According to Baragawa’s dictionary, the word Hindu means, a member or race of Hindustan. So, Hindu is a broader term, being used for time immemorial not as a religion alone but vast set of traditions and customs. Religious duties and rituals is part of those traditions and customs. Even that varies from place to place and region to region.
It is explained in detail in the Wiki link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honour
The main topic of discussion is “ killing of Honor”
I am not very sure or clear, what does the word ‘honor’ mean in the context of ‘honor killing/ killing of honor’.
From a family/ society point of view, what is honor?
Is honor, persons, parents or family’s social status/ standing?
Is honor, persons, and parents or families collective self-esteem?
What is that gets Killed, when we say, killing of honor?
What is saved, when we say, killed for saving honor?
Is honor saved, when part of you (son or daughter) is killed?
May I request the members to concentrate on the topic and invite to answer these and related questions!
Cheers!
