Dear jatlanders,

We all know India is the largest democracy in the world and home to 1/6th of the world population. But unfortunately this unabated population growth manifests itself in unemployment, lower percapita income, illiteracy, deteriorating public services, crime, poverty and demoralisation.
And we know that for country like india,50-60 years is not a very long span to address such fundamental issues, which take its own time.we have a population of over 100 crores and it is a tremendous task to provide for everyone.India is a progressive nation and we are moving ahead against all odds including natural and man made disasters.I believe in next 20 years we can expect to be ranked among the top 10 developed nations of the world.
But then there is some hinderance in its growth..........so ...

WHAT IS MAJOR ISSUE FACED BY INDIA TODAY ON ITS ROAD TO PROGRESS?????

*Unemployment
*Population
*illiteracy
*Corruption
*Terrorism

....... ???????????

i think corruption is the biggest issue that is challenging us right now.i believe we can fight against issues like poverty and all but what if the money meant to help ppl below poverty line never reaches its correct recipients due to prevalent corruption.corruption has sunk to the foundations...we'll have a tough fight against it.

None of the above !!!

As what you have described are as effects of something else and not the cause. But I will leave that for Jatlanders to work it out.:)

There is no such thing as overpopulation. Population becomes too much only when the resources of a land are unable to sustain the growing poupulation, which truly isnt the case with India.

Government just needs someone to blame for its failed policies. So it says that illiteracy, unemplyment blah blah blah are because of overpupulation. We who sit in the parliament and state capitals are doing our jobs sincerely. But, it is the people who are f*****g like crazy and multiplying by leaps and bounds and thus creating problems for the country.

I am sorry, if someone thinks that I should stop "blaming" the government for everything. I think the government shold stop blaming others for everything. It has to admit atleast some of its drawbacks.

Good Topic to Discuss

Dear jatlanders,

I think Dolly has initiated a thought provoking topic. Even though an old subject, but we can brain storm for finding the solutions. At the face of it, may purely be of academic interest, nevertheless, the discussion would provide some kind of plateform for the decision maker to act or for the community to do soul searching.
Let us deal with each one of them.

Firstly, as rightly put in the order is the population. I think our exploration of the resources over the past 60 years has not grown in the proportion our population has grown. Thus first and foremost thing is to control the population. We probably have to resort to one child norm for let us say about 20-30 years when we should go back to probably 2 child norm and no more. This will help us bring down the population to acceptable level, while still maintining a mix of youth and old population. The population control will give us edge in providing the education, basic facilities and a fair scope for development to all sections of the society. I would say, if we can bring our population down to about 70-75 crores, that would be a fairly good number.

With the development that has taken place and that is likely to take place in years to come, with controlled population would eliminate the unemployment to some extent. I personally feel that any one who is willing to work will be able to find a reasonable work matching his/her skills.

The controlled population will have adequate facilities for all to get quality education and hence the problem of illitracy would be taken care of.

Corruption and crime is mainly the result of poverty and to some extent the lust of a human being to get more than what he/she deserves. While the crime may not be totally eliminated from the society, it would be easier to bring it to under control to some extent. With manageable population, the supply is likely to meet the demand if not exceed it. When supply meets the demand, the chances of corruption do decrease. I don't think any civilization has ever been able to totally eliminate corruption or crime, but certainly we can aim for bringing it down to minimum.

Terrorism is linked to the all above problems. The chances of any employed person to get attracted to crime or terrorism are much less as compared to an unemployed person. While this statement may be debatable, as we find some rich, educated and well to do people get involved in terrorism. The fact is that we are just anticipating the probability. Exceptions would always be there. Most intellectuals who are involved in terrorism more often than not use the available youth to further their objectives rather than doing it themselves. Once the poverty and unemployement are brought under control, availability of such people would reduce.

I think Dolly has initiated a thought provoking topic.

Thankyou!!!!!!! sir

root of all other evils...
Population disturbs evrey plan towards progress and prosperity

Yes, ur rt rapid growth of population is essentially the root of all the problems, which hampers the achievement of all development targets.Government failed to persuade the public and the exploding population is eating into limited resources of the nation.Corruption at higher levels percolating below is making matters worse as the common public is left at the mercy of a corrupt system.Illiteracy further supports this vicious circle as large majority is below poverty line and not receptive to developmental efforts such as family planning programmes.

Our major problem is that the educated Indians do not wish to spend time in training the rural masses. India hardly has trained manpower for very basic services like cleaners, painters, carpenters, mesons etc. Situation is almost alarming as there are no teachers for subjects like nursing etc. Rural India is living in Dark Age. Educated Indians are too selfish to care for happenings in rural India. High time we take few lessons from Christian missionaries who spent their lifetime in remote villages and educated masses.

In a direct approach, population is tha main issue and increasing population day by day drastically leads to other impacts like enemployment, less resources and hence iliteracy, less chances to feed themselves and hence leads to corruption and at last in the worse way to survive i.e. terrorism. So, cause of every evil is population.

Now, come to the real root of the problem. Why this increasing population can't be controlled ? Simply, we can blame the government for that as government is not serious to control this.

Yes, i agree with Sumit Dahiya here. Government is the main culprit and can be blamed.

I agree with RKji that our mail problem is education and social awareness. Educated people don't have more then two kids because they know that they can't raise more then two kids. Rural India have to realise the same thing but still they feel that more hands for help is better.

Major issue faced by India (towards progres ) is that the top politicians and member of parliament dont have the right issue with them every other thing is curable .our most strongest point can be 0ur population ,if they (MP) start adressing the correct issue

Navin's bang on....whether its politicians, administrators or the people themselves....its the 'indifference' of everyone, 'mar raha hai marne do', 'ho raha hai hone do' attitude.....

The major issue is indefference of the majority towards the causes.
