Hello friends ,

I am in dilemma , I am a first year MBA student at NMIMS Mumbai ... I recently cleared SSC and might become Income Tax inspector by January 2012... If I join the IT department , I would have to leave my MBA in between... MBA from NMIMS would give me a job of around 10 -12 lakhs per annum... and ITI is a prestigious job... What should I do...please help

First thing.. Are you ready to serve in public sector with so much politics being played every now and then in all govt departments?
Will you be able to cope with those cons, already serving IT dept? if Yes, then leave your MBA and get into the job. it will give staisfaction to your parents that our son is in govt job (that too of repute).

if you want full staisfaction for your talent that you have, do your MBA. Private sector will give you ample opportunities to test your management skills every now and then. ITI job will give you mental peace that you no longer need to hop around for new company for better package or newer challenges!!

PS : ITI can earn you more than what you can think of! only thing you need is to be present at a wrong place at a right time ;)

Bhai Vikram, I think go for ITI govt job gives u peace of mind and repo also.
MBA ke baad package lubhawana hota h... har time ka DANDa rahta h

Go for Income Tax Department Job

After the 6th Pay commission the govt. sector salaries are pretty decent, though not at par with that on offer in the private sector. Politics is not only there in public/govt. sector, it is also there in the private sector (and believe me there is great deal of politics/favouritism in the private sector).

Vikram, my advice to you is to go for the Income Tax dept. job as you can always shift to the private sector from a govt. job later on if you think it suitable BUT YOU CANNOT SHIFT FROM A PRIVATE JOB TO A GOVT. ONE SO EASILY BECAUSE OF SO MANY CONSTRAINTS LIKE QUALIFYING FOR AND CLEARING SELECTION TEST AND THE AGE LIMIT. You can put in a few years of service in the IT Dept. and try to give INTERNAL Departmental exams and become Commissioner Income Tax. In the meantime, if you feel it to be necessary, you can take pre-mature retirement and go for the private sector. At most of the top most business schools, the average age of entrants is increasing to people in their 30s. In the west most of the MBA students are in their 30s and even 40s after they have already worked for around 10-15 years. This helps them to understand and apply the theoretical concepts better on their jobs.

Hence, go for the IT Dept. job, try to grow within it to the senior most level and still if you feel that is not your cup of tea, you can easily shift to the private sector by preparing and clearing the CAT or test for any other good institute or even directly applying for corporate jobs on the basis of your experience in the IT Dept.

All the best for your future!

Thanks for replying.... ITI hi kehte hain papa bhi... aur saare baaki log... waise Mumbai lunga mai location :)

Bhai go for ITI job. Imaandaar afsar banogey, rishwat nahi logey......sahi faisley logey......... to Kiran Bedi jaisa naam hoga ..... aur aise naam ke aage - MBA ka package aur dhan daulat kuchh bhi nahi !!!! Kiran Bedi ne Indira gandhi ki car bhi crane tein uthwaa dee thee galat parking ke kaaran.....

Aur haan, agar package ke peechhey hi jaana hai to MBA mein bhi kitna e package mill jaao, ... thoda aur... thoda aur ke chhaker mein interview pe interview dete rehna......pett kabhi na bhare....!!!

Bhai sarkari naukri me imaandaar bana rahna apne aap me challenge hai.. iste bada challenge na mile jindagi me kade. Aur agar imaandar rah gya to bhai log salute marya karenge.. bade te bada afsar darya kare imaandari te.

Go ahead and join IT dept. Be honest and do your duty with responsibility. if you feel yourself accountable for each and every work you perform while on duty, you will never put a foot wrong. Accountability brings sense of responsibility with it!
