Hi,
I was trying to figure out the best MBA institutes. Thought this place could be of more help.
Could you kindly help me to list out the best institutes for MBA and what is the respectable GMAT score to get admission into these institute.
I will be grateful if you could please add any other factor which may be of relevance.

Thanks in advance.

The links are really useful. Thanks a lot Vikas.
No offence please. But FT has a bad reputation in US for its biased ranking. FT is a UK based organization and so you can see all UK and europe based institute on top. How can you imagine CEIBS, ISB, lancaster etc over great institute like kellogg, berkely. Even in US schools it doesn't make sense to put emory etc over duke, darden and UNC. Even salary figures are way wrong. I can very easily see PPP(purchasing power parity) incorporated into the numbers.
I would advise to look into "Business week" and USnews rankings. They are best bet.

Thanks Shashi & Gaurav....
I do agree that institutes like kellogg, berkely are way ahead of ISB etc. But PPP should be incorporated for the ratings otherwise it will be like comparing Apples with Oranges kinda thing, won't it be? One should do thorough research from various sources like "Business week", FT, alumni, forums etc.

Also, one gotta look for finding a fit for his profile, ROI, Location, Area of expertise etc and should not merely jump based on the rankings how so ever reputed the source of ranking is!

For a typical Indian aspirant, it pays to have an excellent GMAT score ('coz you are bound to be compared with other indians who invariably have some of the best GMAT scores) , the diverse the profile better it is, a typical IT profile certainly plays havoc to your chances (every other Indian has it, so wt's new abt you?), an icing of some community work or extra curricular activites certainly help. .... and yes at last, a well thought of essay set.

Hello Shashi Ji,

As some of friends have already gave u links and explained. Apart from that u need recommendation letters from institutes last studied/workplace(organization) .... may be some 2-5 letters. They actually look for ur achievements. If u have done something differnet and worth. GMAT score does matter but not always if u have good work exp and exposure. Anyways, 700+ is considered as a decent score. but always most of the applicants are from India so the competetion is among Indians mostly. So, i feel one shud get 730+ score with atleast 3 years of work exp. But even a gud score say 760+ also cant assure ur admission rather than 700+ and other things shud be balanced like recos, work exp, achievements, UG score and so. This is the info i collected from differnt friends and websites. I have a lil knowledge abt that so if u feel u can ping me or can write in the same thread as others can also see and share their views. If u come across some new and worthy things do share with me.

Regards,
Devender

Here are a few facts about ISB:

1. Does not award an MBA degree; only a PGP certificate.
2. Resident Faculty not of international standards; quality and volume of research papers published not up to the mark.
3. Visiting international faculty not available for interaction year round; they teach for a few weeks and disappear. International facutly outnumber resident faculty which means less interaction.
4. School fees high making ROI (return on investment) unfavorable.
5. Only 6 years old which means not enough alumni network.
6. No internship inspite of being located in the middle of high tech companies.

in short....it is NOTHING in comparison to US univs....FT rankings mean nothing in US.....I have already done a MS from a top univ in US and have been here more than 5 years....this year I have applied to US univs and have admission in a 2 of top 15 schools

Only ranking worth considering, usnews.com and to a small extent business week rankings....these rankings are logical....they show how they weight their options and then rank schools....

FT rankings are plain right hopeless...

Also as some1 asked about GMAT.....Mine was 750 (99 percentile- you can not get a percentile higher than that) and I have a MS from US and a GPA of 3.9 out of 4 in undergrad....which is much higher than the average of even harvard.....still i could not get into top 7 schools...I know 2 people with 780 GMAT which is extremely high...they could not get into any college here....One should understand that no of applications this yr has increased by almost 50%....there is a lot of luck and chance factor involved too...

Thanks Shashi & Gaurav....
