A good suggestion. I have noticed on our forum that we are giving undue importance to media reports & in some cases we take media reports as truth. All the members here are educated & they are aspected to annalise the report logically before belieing it blindly. regards

Haryana women panel chief hails khaps:
This is the news from the tribune ,
I was wondering why the JAT journilist are after their own community. As we have noticed reporters from our community are working against the community, same thing is with jat politicians its Naveen Jindal who came forward first in support of community others were just followers not leaders.
What are they scared off or what are the rewards they are looking to get by bashing there community.
Sikh journalist never wrote against their community they always highlight the 84 riots never say a word about militancy. Muslim on the other hand always wrote about how Islam is religion of peace. But when it comes to us, our journlist are at the front to oppose us or our culture our traditions etc..
Why are our own people against us or are not with us????????

This is stupid observation or can say totally biased journalism.

So many Sikh writers and journalists used to write against Militancy in Punjab. In the same league, we can find so many articles by Muslim writers and journalists on the terrorism.

The writer of this news/article needs to check his/her basic general knowledge.

Dear Vijay,
Lets say there are sikh and muslim writer who written against there communities but my question is why Jat journalist are against Jats?

The job of the journalists is to bring to the people what is happening around them. They should do it with honestly irrespective of whether the person who is writing about the news/article is jat or not. Apna farz logon ko caste or religion se upar ho kar pura karna chahiye.

Let us know how do you find out what is against Jats. Yahaan to saare Jat hain (almost). Fir bhi har time ek doosre ke against likhte hain. So who is for Jats and who is against. Mere khyaal se to mere khilaaf jo bhi likhta hai, woh Jaton ke against hai; kyunki main to kasoota favor mein hoon...:)

There is a difference between ,

1) coming on this site and presenting your point of view and debating against each other and

2) writing derogatory material against the Jats, and not coming forward to discuss/justify your views ( a spit and run policy)

We look forward to seeing the various journalists who write negative articles- Nandita Sengupta, Mr. Siwach, D R Chaudhry, Jagmati Sangwan etc coming out in the open , on this forum.

I agree with you but dear, journalist must report only actual happening, in a simple straight language without any salt/cheeli or personal assessment/ comments. Show the real & correct picture to the public without any self interest, without any bias, without any prejudice, malice etc. regards

This is a sad thinking. Nothing wrong in criticism (irrespective of the critics' caste, religion, etc.) as long as it is fair. Muslim journalists NOT writing about militancy or issues related with women-education is NOT a good thing.. certainly not worth emulating by others. And by the way, read M J Akbar's comments about Indian muslims OR read Nadeem F Parcha or Kamran shafi or Irfan Hussain. There are plenty of good writers who write balanced views on a variety of issues (including their own region, caste and religion).
But exaggerating the issues to ridiculous proportions or wrongly accusing a institution for something is unacceptable; no matter who does it.

Mrs. Sangwan has a political agenda and in a single article, she painted khaps as a mighty organization (of level Talibans) which is responsible for the Dalits subjugation, honor killings and anti-women. This is something wrong. And publication of such articles in a paper like The Hindu, which has a large readership across India, certainly convinced a lot of readers about the sinister role of Khaps (readers who otherwise were totally unaware of existence of khaps).

No point in talking about Mr. Siwach, म्हारा काटड़ा can belch better blogs than him.. Seriously. :-)

There is a series of articles at www.merinews.com portal about khaps. There is one Prem Sahajwala who has written An Open Letter to Khap leaders in three parts.

Here some guys has answered this Prem the Khajwala quite well. Have a look at three parts :-

There are almost 20 articles about khap on this portal. Two of which we have discussed in a thread started by Mr RK2.

Here is the link of all :-

Worthless article - Don't waste your time

There is a series of articles at www.merinews.com portal about khaps. There is one Prem Sahajwala who has written An Open Letter to Khap leaders in three parts.

Well I have read the 3 parts and found them totally worthless. The main points which this article highlights are not rational at all. They are just one sided views of one’s imagination and laced with prejudice.

You can judge this from the points that forms the base of the article (reproduced below)

"Taking one of them at random, say that of Baba Saheb Ambedkar who said that the in charges of various go-shalas (cow crèches) were the originators of gotra which means that each head of a go-shala began a new gotra. Now at the time of origin, the head had a few relatives who were mutually cousins, uncles, aunts and brothers-sisters as in any family of today and all these relatives treated one another as brothers and sisters.

Even today, young boys and girls normally move with their first cousins as brothers and sisters. But those original cousins of the birth of gotra days must have now descended into thousands of generations and how frivolous it is of you all to label all these young boys and girls as brothers and sisters?

The question is who authorizes you to name various boys’ or girls’ relationships with their friends, with whom they study or serve in an office or play or perform any activity? Are you all out to oppress these boys/girls who want just space enough to live their lives their own way and curb their very existence?"

There is no rationally to the above point. By considering the same gotra (goti) people as their brothers and sisters, one is extending his family to all the gotis. This extension brings more peace and harmony to the society. Same is the case of a village. What is wrong if one wants to live in this extended family?

Also, no one is authorizing relationships here. In fact no one can. Relationships are not limited to romance and marriages. The society is not objecting to any other relationship, that of a co-worker (professional), friend, business, brother/sister, friend, etc.

The writers concluding remarks are even more surprising and show the level of ignorance about the importance and significance of villages in India.

"While concluding this article, I suddenly happen to remember a date 4 Nov. 1948 when Baba Saheb Ambedkar introduced India’s draft constitution in the Constituent Assembly. A part of his long speech also dealt with Indian villages. He said that many honorable members of the Assembly lamented that the new constitution was not built upon Village Panchayats and District Panchayats.

But Baba Saheb simply poo poohed the objections of these tear-shedders who had pointed out to Metcalf’s theory that the ‘village communities lasted where nothing else lasts’. Baba Saheb just questioned this survival by saying – ‘ The question is, on what plane they have survived. Surely, on a low, on a selfish level… What is a village, but a sink of localism, a den of ignorance, narrow-mindedness and communalism? I am glad that the Draft constitution has discarded the village and adopted the individual as its unit’ (The Essential Writings of BR Ambedkar edited by Valerian Rodrigues pp 485-486).

One of Baba Saheb’s own agonies was that the villages never moved ahead of where they were and were never a part of the progressive march of the nation. This may further be elaborated by the fact that the self-styled self-righteous rightists and the so called owners of the legacy of this great nation have always cursed Bobington Macaulay for bringing the English education and hence civilization in this country. The miserable state of affairs in the villages of our country is a fitting answer to such Macaulay baiters whose education system educated the woman of India and emulated her to man.

It is the Macaulay-educated urban woman who reached the space, who occupied positions as big as the president or the Prime Minister of India and the CM of many a state. One of the erudite speakers in this conference was clearly saying that the khap panchayats do not allow women as members of the panchayats.

One question is therefore clear – ‘Are the villages of India and the village communities walking with the nation or as Baba Saheb said, they are, just sinks of localism, dens of ignorance, narrow-mindedness and communalism? One prays that you are all able to answer this question to your good selves."

Had there been no villages, there would have been no India. India has survived because of agriculture for thousands of years.

@Samar, I think the links should be removed. They are not worth the TRPs (Google search) that gets generated by clicking on them. It has good comments; however, people seldom read comments.

The spate of honour killings in Delhi, Haryana and other parts of north India in recent weeks seems to have stirred the government out of its slumber. The law ministry is considering amendments to certain laws, including the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Evidence Act and the Special Marriage Act to address the problem. Government action was long overdue. Honour killings are neither new nor rare. Around a thousand such killings take place annually in the country, mostly in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The Jat community in Haryana is particularly notorious for its practice.
However, the problem is not restricted to ‘backward communities.’ It is prevalent among rich and landed class as well as educated, urban families. At the core of this problem are khap panchayats.

Another Idiot. This looks like straight from Editor not any XYZ correspondent. Is he saying Jat=backward community=notorious killing=responcible is Khap Panchayat.

Though he says its not limited to backward community

Yesterday on CNN-IBN, Talking Point, Mr. Satyapal Chaudhry got irritated as soon as questions/arguments were thrown at him. He was not able to defend Khaps and kept on repeating 13-14 saal ke ladke/ladki ishqbaji karenge to unko rokna padega. Though whatever killings have happened, all were "baalig"!
First of all they don't get too much time to speak, and whatever they get they waste it by getting angry.First Mr Tikait, then Mr Dhankar, now Mr. Chaudry! These people are Wasting whatever chances they are getting to defend themselves against MEDIA!!:boxing
