Dear Avinash,
What would you like to know about merchant navy ? I used to be in the Merchant Navy. Life is not bad, money is good too. Ultimately you get bored with isolation and want to settle down ashore. There are number of private institutes who can train you. But probably can not guarantee you a ship after the training, some might be able to find you a ship. Check this one out

Good luck.

Hi Avinash,
Good to meet another sailor. I used to work as Chief Engineer with GESL & Ocean Tramping HK, Kapal (Singapore) then HKMD Surveyor.Last trip as C/E on Univan Ship was in 1995. I still keep my Extra First Class (steam & motor) and AMSA Class 1 Certificate current but not likely to sail. My close friend and classmate runs a Marine Academy in Mumbai (www.yakindia.com). I used to maintain good contact with old collegues, until I got too busy with further studies and full time job. Presently I am pursuing MSc Subsea Engineering via distance education. Some of my merchant navy friends are settled in Rohtak, Chandigarh, Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and occasionally meet them but it is getting rarer now. In Anglo Eastern there used to be Bagga and Pandey as superintendents. Univan and Wallem used to be good companies, I don't know how are they at present. It will be good to know about them and old friends associated with shipping. If I can recall correctly, Capt. Narender Sheoran is also with Anglo Eastern in Singapore. Please Keep in touch and tell me more about life at sea to-day. Who knows, one day I may feel like driving a ship just for a voyage and renew my sea legs. It has it's own charm.
