It just ended the way it did, nobody can do anything about it - it was just a movie. I think the Coen Brothers who directed the movie can answer any questions you have ... here is their contact:

Yeah, its one hell of a good movie, indeed a treat to watch ... the cinematography is fabulous and deserts n dry locations always fascinate me. Thou, I agree that end is depressing and lil hard to digest but not to forget .. its Hollywood style of movie making where ending is not happy, often!

I give it 4/5 ... A movie that leaves aftereffects. :)

Some of you who were in military or have interest in military, intel affairs should watch the movie, "The Good Shepherd". This movie shows the devotion, courage, candor and commitment of few men who built CIA from ground up to a fearsome agency at the expense of their comfort, joy, happiness. Watch the dialogue of Matt Damon and Joe Pesci, that will tell the kind of single minded commitment one needs to win against your adversary.
