Rathee jee being a jat this"never say die" attitude is in my blood so i can't really help it:D.....Waise mujhe lagta hai yeh gunn maine meri mummy se inherit kiya hai...aur unka surname "Rathee" hai:D.....Joining politics will be the last thing on my mind...even if an honest person joins it,he/she has to compromise someday and have to make favours to the known people for personal or social obligations...and sometimes its been done out of generosity but thats the begining in reality....one can't survive when one enters such messy profession and dealing with corrupt people everyday is hell of a job....woh kehte hai na kichadd me agar paav dalla toh daldal me dhass jana laazmi hai....Har honest aadmi yeh soch kar hi iss daldal(politics)se durr hi rehta hai....because for them respect and image is more precious than money and power :)
About arguments with RK uncle was not to show him down and look intelligent but was just a clash of views....I respect him and i know he has no grudges for such a minor issue...aajkal bache bhi badoo se debate kar lete hai and its all is to exchange views and vision towards certain things in world.

But Poonam ... History is full of people who have murdered/plundered/lied to get to the top. I think she is accomplished in selfishness, divisiveness, hatred etc etc. I find her behavior very repulsive along with other pols. Anyway, she is just a reflection of the people who elect her.

Different Opinion

I think one issue this whole discussion raises is how does a politician really rise
to become a national leader....especially if you are pretty much coming from
nowhere...i.e. you don't have the Gandhi tag, or a long lineage of
politicians on whose shoulders you can get a jumpstart.

It seems to me that you have to find a segment to appeal to, find some success there, and then try to catapult yourself to the national stage...
and then spend your energies getting rid of the niche segment tag that
you used as a stepping stone.

If you look at Modi, we are all seeing him as a great leader with PM potential.
But how has he got to this point? Hindutva and the Gujarat riots would really be his stepping stones. Once there, he is now trying to further himself with
actual development in the state...hence his transformation to national
prominance.

Advani & Vajpayee pretty much also rode the Hindutva ladder. Ayodhya
was the game they played. But once in power, they were back to
the "secular" mould. I don't recall anything tinted with Hindutva in their
actual policies once they were in power at the center.

When they seem to be losing the edge, they rake up the Hindutva issues
again...but not otherwise.

Same with the Haryana Jat leaders. They all try to piggback on the
"Farmer" (read Jat) vote. Once in power they are hardly any different from
any other leader. Sure we can nitpick on some things...but bottomline is they
are aren't all "farmer" once in power.

Question is whether or not Mayawati is also using the Dalit angle
primarily as her narrow segment to gain prominance...and if, once she
ends up with some role at a national level, she'll change her stripes to
appeal to a broader group. We already saw some of that when she
aligned with the non-dalit groups in UP to gain the votes she needed.

If what RK Chacha pointed out on things she has been doing in UP, maybe
that is a pointer that she sees that she needs to rise beyond Dalits
if she is to succeed further....

Dear Rathee Saab,

I will give you some facts why Mayawati should not become the PM of nation:

1. She is a back stabber. Remember (21 March 1997 - 20 September 1997) when she became CM with the support of BJP on condition of power sharing in every 6 months. But when it came for BJP leader to become CM she backed out.

2. She is always saying that "Main Dalit ki beti hun" and I should get the chance to become PM. Now please look on following facts what she has/had done for Dalits in UP.
a. Female and Male ratio: The sex ratio of female and male of U.P Dalits is 900 per 1000 as against the national average of 936 in respect of all Dalits. Similarly the sex ratio among children of 0-6 year’s age group is 930 against the national average of 988.
These figures show that in respect of sex ratio U.P Dalits are far behind the Dalits of other states at national level. This indicates the low position and poor condition of Dalit females and children in U.P.

b. According to National Family and Health Survey Report 2005-06 the percentage of women suffering from malnutrition in U.P was 47. Similarly out of 52% children suffering from malnutrition and 46% were stunted in growth. The child mortality rate was 73 percent as compared with 61% of Bihar. This survey also indicated that in the age group of 15 to 49 years, 34% women were underweight. During this survey it also came to light that there were 73 still births out of 1000 live births which were higher than 67.6% at national level nine years ago. At this point of time there were only 22% institutional deliveries against the national average of 34%. This survey also revealed that only 22% children had taken full vaccination where as the state government had claimed to have achieved hundred percent vaccinations in the years 2001-02. The mortality rate was 8.7% which is just next highest to Bihar which was 9.0 percent.

c. Literacy Rate: According to 2001 Census Report, the literacy rate of U.P Dalits stands at 43% whereas the national average of the Dalits is 54.7%. The literacy rate of U.P Dalits both males and females is 60.3% and 30.5% respectively whereas the national average of Dalits is 66.6% and 41.9% respectively. In Bahraich district the literacy rate of Dalit female is as low as 9 percent. As such U.P Dalits lag behind the Dalits of many other states of India in terms of male and female literacy rates. According to Dr. B.R.Ambedkar the progress of a society is measured by the progress of women. But the position of Dalit women in U.P. is very low. It also badly reflects on the poor performance of U.P government on education front.

d. Level of Education: Out of literate Dalits of U.P 38% have no level of education or have got education below primary level. The proportion of literates who have attained education up to primary and middle levels is 27.1% and 18.5% respectively. The percentage of literates educated up to matric and higher secondary is 13.3% only. Graduates and above are 3 percent. The non-technical and technical diploma holders constitute a meager of 0.1% only.

e. School Dropout Rate: As per the Report of Basic Education Directorate U.P, during 1991 the dropout rate of children at primary school stage was 45.02 percent. As such every second child leaves the school before completion of primary education. The dropout rate for girls was 46.25% which was higher than that of 44% for boys. This rate has not changed much even after that. It is well known that for various reasons, the dropout rate of Dalit children is much higher than general caste children. It has a direct bearing on the literacy rates of Dalits.

f. Untouchability and Discrimination in Schools: It has come out from various newspaper reports that untouchability and discrimination persists in U.P. government school. It is often reflected in the form of boycott of mid-day meal prepared by Dalit cooks in primary and middle schools. In spite of government orders for appointment of Dalit cooks on priority basis, it has been found during a survey that Dalit cooks have been appointed in 17% schools only. The neglect and complacency on the part of government machinery in implementing its own orders has given impetus to the incidents of boycott of mid-day meals prepared by Dalit cooks. It is a pity that punitive action was taken in a few cases only and many others have been hushed up. Apart from it, many incidents of caste discrimination and maltreatment of Dalit students by high caste teachers have been reported in press. This situation badly reflects on the attitude of Mayawati Government towards the incidence of untouchability in government schools.

g. Work Participation Rate: According to 2001 Census Report, the work participation rate (WPR) of the Scheduled Castes (SCs) population of U.P is 34.7% which is lower than that of all SCs at the national level. There has been a slight decrease of 0.3% in WPR during 1991-2001. Both the male and female WPR (46.9 and 21.2% respectively) are lower than those recorded for all SCs at the national level (50.7 and 29...4% respectively). Among the total workers, 65.25 are Main Workers, which is lower than that recorded for all SCs at the national level (73%). As such 34.8% of Dalits are casual workers.

h. Dalits below Poverty Line: As per the statistics of 2004-05, the percentage of persons Below Poverty Line (BPL) in U.P. was 32.8% where as the national average was 27.5 percent. Thus the percentage of Dalits in BPL category is quite high. According to National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) survey for 1991-2002, the percentage of Dalits in this category was 44 in U.P. As compared with the percentage for BPL in Bihar (59.8) and Orissa (51.8) states, U.P. was only a little better placed. Per Capita Income and Per Capita Consumption in U.P. is also quite low as compared with all India level. The actual figure of BPL for Dalits in U.P. may be around 50-60% indicating very high incidence of poverty.

i. According to the Statistics Diary of U.P. for 2007 the average Per Capita Income at 1993-94 rates during 2004-05 was Rest. 6138 only i.e. Rest. 512 per month for a family of five members. It was Rest. 13316 during 2005-06 at current prices i.e. Rest. 1101 only for a family of five persons. It works out be Rest. 3.40 and Rs.7.30 only per head per day. These figures show very low per capita income in U.P. Consequently the per capita income of Dalits is bound to be much lower than this figure.

And moreover this not the first time she is the CM of UP. She was CM for UP in past for 3 instances.

If she can't do it for UP dalits how can somebody think of that she will provide progress for Dalits of whole country let alone all other castes.

Different Opinion Cont...

Continuing my previous post:

3. Mayawati's obsession with the Dalit agenda may have fetched her votes in the Assembly elections, but the World Bank is certainly not impressed. While rejecting her request for funds, the Bank rapped the government for the poor progress made with regard to the various projects funded by it and warned that it would reconsider its decision to fund projects in the State. The World Bank has held the frequent transfers of officials as being responsible for the tardy progress of the projects. If she can't make a small state like UP (in comparison with India) progress with all funds how can she fulfill the dreams of progressing India.

4. Everybody knows how she celebrates her birthday. She spents crores of rupees (nearly 50 crore) everyyear just to make her bday look lavish. Why not give that money to her dalit brothers and sisters. Even if the rupee is token of love from different people, she can still collect that money and distribute. I dont think any other politician spends so vigorously and lavishly on celebrating his/her bday.

5. She bought 2 airplanes a Beechcraft Premier and a Bell 412 helicopter last year worth million of dollars claiming she wants to goto part of UP in no time. Can anybody ask Miss Mayawati if she wants to be anywhere so fast why need 2 planes? Infact she is planning to buy third aircraft worth 15 million dollars. Even our current PM/ Harayana CM don't have such personal planes. What an irony???

6. She wants to give 50% reservation to SC/ST/etc. when she will come to power in center. She had already done it in UP. (May be 2003 but dont remember the year exactly). If so happens where will we and our future generation go? I personally feel jaats should not to be included in BC or OBC. (Sorry for being off topic in last line).

7. Regarding the point of Modi and BJP wooing people on basis of Hindutva, still I feel like they try to establish relation with a whole religion and not for just a caste (Dalit).

In every aspect I personally feel Mayawati should not become PM of India or even should be given a chance to become PM. (If people want to see statue of Mayawati in whole India they can vote for her.;))

PS: I dont want to offend anybody in anyway and these views are strictly my personal.

Probably no Clear Majority again! What does that say...

...about us citizens'???

Already they are talking about how it's likely gonna be a Hung House! AGAIN...

Apparently all major and minor exit poll results announced today were similar: THAT is: NO clear winner!

BTW Do members realize that India hasn’t seen a single political party getting that magic number and simple majority of 272 seats, (or anywhere close for that matter ), in the last twenty years!??!

I guess like in the past, would this time too the single largest political party, and not the largest pre-poll alliance faction; get the first offer to form the government by our Lady President, or vice-versa?

President Pratibha Patil would probably have to ask this (whoever it is) invited 'Prime Minister'.... to take a floor test and prove that he/she can form a stable government...

What a fiasco... again, I wonder- Does this say more about us, the voters, or about the candidates/Parties we have to choose among from... to vote for???

I think it speaks to freedom of choice people enjoy in India.
Kahin pe thooko, kahin pe mooto, kahin pe leyt jao...aur kissi ko bhi vote daalo.

It might seeem frustrating but it does seem to be a miracle that at the
end of the day everything seems to still chug along....and everybody gets
their say.

Rohit:

Thanks for laying out the various points.

I don't really see a difference between wooing based on religion or wooing based on caste. The bottom line is that you are creating divisions based on specific attributes that we collectively might agree are not in the best
interests of the country. If you feel that religious divisions are okay, then
in that case you would feel comfortable for voting for BJP as well as
the RSS types. At the very least you might consider that as the
lesser of the evils.

In any case, do note that I am not speaking in favor of or against
Mayawati. Frankly, I don't know enough in this case to be doing so.

I am just making generic observations of politics, and how various
politicians find a niche group to appeal to as a way to gain visibility.
Another example is the Thackerey types. These folks have made a career
out of playing the Marathis against most others.

Contrast that with someone coming out cold and standing for all
Indians and well being of everyone and so on...you know...hug-hug...kiss-kiss...keep everyone happy... Somehow it seems that he/she
would have a tougher time than the ones who play on peoples fears and
resentments and hatreds...and feast like parasites on the divisions that already exist.

I am simply trying to make that observation.

Rathi Saab,

You are absolutely right.

I dont support BJP and RSS either but if given a choice between Thackreys, Mayawatis and BJP I'll still go with BJP. The reason being simple as BJP is still dividing our country on the basis of religion and not confined to a special caste or region. We may still feel that atleast we can breathe freely anywhere in India if we are Hindu. Anyways again thats a very personal thinking.

Soon Mayawati's Dream of becoming PM will be shattered (if you have seen the exit poll). ;)

From what I can make of the results that have come in so far, Mayawati ji may not even remain the CM of UP, forget about her becoming the PM.

I may not be any beauty queen but i dont loook as sad as she is:mad:...If u think that i look as good as Mayawati but need better dresses than i must say that you should be in some mental asylum as soon as posssible as u talk like one(i am also very serious)and yup i dont need to talk about your looks as u dont have any(remarkable)at all....try hard and get yourself together if it helps in rectifying your retardation(though m sure it wont)....and three words for you......"GET A LIFE"
As i said before i dont mind if you compare yourself with any dog or a pig but dont compare me with anyone....mind your own business:mad:
deepika u luk as gud as mayawati but u need better dresses ( i m serious bot dresses here) take it easy..
