As Officer Armed forces in the initial years (5-10 years) offer best of the opportunities and a decent pay packet. The personal growth, adventure, decent living and style is unmatchable (not even IAS / IFS can match). But then the flip side starts from the middle level to the senior level. The middle level does not throw enough challenge, as one continues to do the same stuff over and over again. To add to the voes, "yes sir" culture is killing it.
At the very senior level, more than the money, the perks are nothing but impressive. But the intellectual stimulation and job satisfaction are miles away. On the other hand bureaucracy gets into thick of the action and takes decision (right or wrong) which are definitively stimulating. To sum it up joining as SSC (short service commission) is a better bet.
As Soldier The Technical branch offer better opportunities for resettlement. The wards of Jawans, gets all the benefit and opportunities, the officer's children get. The level playing field ensure good future for subsequent generations.
