My Room-Partner

He was my room partner from past ten years. Ten long years, we stayed together throughout all good and bad times. We were of the same age. It was in 1997; I passed my High school and went to an unknown city, away from my family first time for college study. I was introduced to him during the 1st important journey of my life. He responded promptly to my hesitating approach for a complete stranger. I was literally intrigued by his intelligent use of words and admirable wisdom. It was good to meet someone while leaving your family first time. Though I have my doubts whether had he enjoyed my company, but I certainly did.

I found him more patient and stable than I was ever in my life. He listened all my crap with his unwavering attention and that was something which hooked me to him. Though it was a “hi hello, bye chalo” kind of friendship, but we enjoyed the journey together. We enjoyed the thick jungles, occasional streams and farmers working in their fields. One short journey was over; another was in offing, this time long one, just was about to begin.

Both of us mutually decided to stay together under the same roof. I was going through an existential crisis with lots of inner conflict. I was confused about my choices. But my room partner’s influence was quite soothing in bringing an inner stability and peace of mind to me. On the very 1st evening, I was sitting in my room, away from my family, couldn’t take it more and started crying like a small child. Today when I look back, it brings a smile to my face, but I am not able to understand whether I am more mature now or I have lost my innocence somewhere in past years. I was crying and crying…my room partner gave me a friendly look and asked, “Don’t worry mate, have a good cry, afterwards we would go and watch movie.” His simplistic approach made me laugh while tears were running down my cheeks. It was similar to a scene of sunlight appearing during the rain. We laughed together over me seeing crying. He put the mirror to my face to show how bad I look while weeping! Though this didn’t bother me much since, in any case, I was always average looking guy. “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum” kind of scenario marked the beginning of a long friendship and new phase of my inner growth that made me the person I am today.

He was not selfish and always thought of others before him. He understood all the human emotions better than me and taught me their importance in our day-to-day life. I was introduced to wisdom, spirituality, maturity and above all Life itself. He was always there to help me out whenever I felt the pinch of being weak and alone. He made me look the silver lining even in worst of times. I had gone through hungry days, even passed one night on a park bench during the struggling period and took all the insult from loved-ones and non-loved ones in my stride. It was really tough. But I knew as long as my true friend, my room partner was with me, I would overcome anything. And I did. He was so right while he said, “It shall too pass.” It really passed.

He made me realize the real definition of problem. If you don’t have a job, it’s not a problem, the real problem would have been if you were not educated enough even to apply for a job. If you are ill, it’s not a problem; the real problem would have been if you wouldn’t have enough money or resources (doctor, medicines) for treatment. This really changed my entire approach to the outside world. He made me realize that problems never cease to exist; they would keep coming to you in different form.

First getting admission in some good school; getting high marks; getting a decent job; keeping boss happy; handling office politics; running for promotion or better salary; Bringing up children and then starts another same set of circle for children.

So see the point, Worries will not stop or end, they would just change their form and knock at your door again. The basic point to understand was that everything passes, including our life, everything is transitory. Another important lesson learnt!
I kept growing and so did he too. However, somewhere he was always far ahead from me in all aspects. Life was so thrilling those days. We read many good books and then would have a hearty discussion, lots of arguments, all this to construct our worldwide view. We were not very social but our consistent hunger for growth in life, philosophy and spirituality filled our heart.

The best part of our ever-strengthening friendship was that there was immense respect for each other’s space. He taught me one should never lose the sense of mystery about life and keep finding new ways to live life in truly alive manner.

Our world was growing inside-out. Today, when I look back at the guy who left his home 10 years ago, and the one today he is, I have a feeling of satisfaction and triumph that I didn’t waste the most crucial period of a person’s life. These are the years which can make or break you. I am not boasting that I have achieved a lot, but yes, I am on the right path and that ensures something really good in store for me. It is not as if I never felt trapped in baddy-baddy things, but my dearest friend was always there to lend me a helping hand. I can’t be far worse than his pure goodness. My evilness has fought many times with his integrity but never able to win. Thanks to God, Thanks to him!

Even today my friend, my room-partner is living with me. Every hour, every minute, every second, every moment, he is with me, guiding a guy having average knowledge with his immense profound wisdom. My shadow, my room-partner gives me my space when I am with other people and blossoms more when I am alone As long he is with me, I am in safe hands. He is very much like me from the heels up to the head. He is my shadow that goes in and out with me. I love my shadow! I love my soul!

Hi Dear...Thanks for reading my post and placing the comment...The idea behind this wirte-up is that my soul, my sub-conscious mind is my room-partner.....living alone, I used to have lots of internal dialouge...my soul always guided me to have positive approach...grow in all contexts and so on...Human soul is far pure than our conscious mind which is greatly affected by the surrounding and incidents. However, inspite of that, our soul remains intact and always guide us to be a better person. Yes...I wept...but myself told me that if you really wannna cry, you can...after that enjoy the evening.....so thta's the way i put it.......:)...I hope i have made myself clear........:)....Keep visiting....Keep commenting...
