Harry Potter is a 4.1 Billion Dollar brand as of now! Courtesy, American marketing mastery behind the brand! ……… I was reading an article today, which pointed out that Americans are so expert in earning money, they know how to use newer marketing ideas and how to hit the masses right! The Potter Mania…… a recent example! Harry Potter is a fiction based & thrilling story, but is it the best as is being proved by news flashing all over, covering the ever growing mad rush to grab a copy of the latest Potter triumph? Enthusiasm & eagerness of the people worldwide is being massively portrayed as if it is such a novel thing having surpassed all great works of fiction! The point is they use marketing in such a way that they strike the masses massively! They know how to create a mass hype & make it grow each day and end up filling pockets!! Do we lack in marketing skills or ideas?

Good Point Picked Up Again !!!
Every Time whenever i read about harry potter books... I tend to think that .. Americans' kids or whoever read this stupid fictitious fiction must be idiot .. Still it is breaking each record .. well this is really about marketing ...
Our movies are just not able to touch the oscars' stage .. this is again marketing .. as there are many movies made recently and in the past which do not lack contents ... But they do lack marketing ....
It requires really something to fetch money out of someone's pocket.

Well these are kids books and as most kids books are this one is fictional. I don't understand what is so stupid about reading these books? I understand it might be a little crazy to stand in line all night when it comes out but from a fictional story telling point these are great books. These are meant for pure entertainment.
I do agree that great marketing has 'created' demand for this product and name brand. Marketing is like a science in US where considerable amount of budget is spent in creating demand so that the interest of common person is sparked and the real enthusiasts will read it regardless.

Ya thats the point, they know how to hit the people at the right time & right place and make them crazy! They arouse the feelings of people & make it tempting for them to purchase the product at such higher prices & then too feel contended! Their marketing strategies r taking them further in many a ways, but India on the contrary has all the potential, talent, good products etc but they are far behind in marketing them properly ! Americans not only market products, but the people too! They know how to project people in a way so as to make them look like public heroes & mass icons!

BTW, this amazing Harry Potter book and movie mania is evident not only in America but also UK (where the book's author hails from)...and even India for that matter!

Any market strategist will tell you that aggressive and focused marketing of a product shall take it somewhere till a certain point ONLY...after that the thing has to self sustain itself...
and this is the 7th Harry Potter book for crying out aloud... do you think people (or even these teenage kids) would be fooled by something for so long and after so many 'sequels/additions' if it was just a piece of c**p balloned up by some clever marketing strategy???...
Well, maybe try the word's 'creative' and 'unique' next to the product and you would get 'pottered' in the right direction...

Any average thing cushioned by an above average strategy can do wonders! Its just similar to the wonders an average person can do, who can present himself in a typically "graceful" manner ! There r many a live examples! One need not be a genius to make others feel that he is one!

Yeah but u can only do it for so long. This series has had 7 books and 5 movies made and all of them have been highly successful. If it was an average product fluffed by marketing it would not have survived this long or achieved this kind of success. Marketing can do some wonders but Potter has survived for so long because it is a good product period.
